Cheap Design Beware !

I used this filter several times in the 2 months that I had it. Then one day after taking a shot, I bring my camera down and the glass completely falls out the ring which is still on my lens ! 1.) It is a cheap design. 2.) It is pain to turn the filter for adjustment. 3.) This filter is very difficult to clean, as someone else in these reviews had also stated. The design of this filter retaining ring should be made more robust. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND PURCHASE ANOTHER BRAND !!!

You Get What You Pay For....

I've used B+W filters for 25+ years. I find that like nearly all things related to top-end camera equipment (and also in life) that one almost always get's exactly what they pay for...

Circular polarizer

I use this mostly when I'm on the water to reduce glare. I also use it to get a little more "blue" in my skies or anywhere I need to get rid of glare. I'm not sure if the effect is more natural than some cheaper polarizers I have or just weak. I'm not a pro I just know what my eyes see. The lens cap they supply is pretty cheesy and falls off all the time, it's too thin to use your lenses cap so once it's on my lens I go without a cap until I take it off. You also can't adjust it with a lens hood on, it's too thin to grab. I'm going to say I wouldn't recommend but if there was an "I might recommend" that's what I would choose.

Pricey- Quality Slim Polarizer Filter

B+W 77 mm Wide Angle Circular Polarizer Multi Coated Thin Glass Filter and B+W 77 mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer Filter in Wide Angle Slim Mount MRC Coated Glass I have both of above wide angle and thin polarizer glass for my Nikon 28-300 mm VR lens and Tamron 10-24 mm lens. Both glass are working well on their performance- as lens protector, avoids vignetting, increase chromatography contrast etc. I having not to compare the cheaper polarizer, but I do believe in what you get what you pay for. Of course not sure if it's worth the money over a cheaper, need time/$ to study and research. The weakness in this product is the attached soft filter caps (only fits over the filter), because the glass is very thin/slim so, there is no room/front thread for the hard plastic lens cap (Old cap). Therefore, it's always fall off when you moving in and out the camera.

Clear optics but difficult to clean

Color saturation and optics are very good with this filter but I found the rear surface to be very difficult to clean. The coating seems almost sticky and has a tendency to leave smear marks when cleaning

Great filter with amazing colors!

This is a great filter. It's perfect on a wide angel lens because it doesn't cause vintaging. I have a canon 5D II and, 17-40mm lens and it works great not to cause vintaging. The colors get very bright and saturated using this filter, and help getting read of or increasing reflections on water. Also great for day landscape photography where all the colors get washed out otherwise. Cons: The only problem is, the suction cup was pretty loose, so i always had to put my hand on it make sure it doesn't fall, and finally I lost it.

You going Ultra Wide Angle?

I shoot with a Canon 16-35mm F2.8 Mark I lens. I get noticeable vignetting with the regular profile version of this filter. If you go ultra wide angle, you need this filter to avoid the vignetting. Just one of those basic things.

Great polarizer

Works great with my EF-S 10-22 mm lens. No additional vignetting at 10mm due to the slim design.

Good but has problems

Perfect in appearance with a blue hue this filter is very good at cutting glare and increasing color saturation. However unless the light is very strong it will cut shutter speed in half. Lenspen glass cleaners don't remove stuck dust and only careful work with a clean lens cloth and cleaning fluid brands such as Giottos keep it oil free. It was only useful in environments with a lot of excess light or glare.

About B + W 77mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter

B&W Kaeseman Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) Slim Glass filters are constructed from specially selected polarizer foils with especially prepared optical glass. Completely edge-sealed, these Kaeseman encased series filters are designed for maximum durability under extreme climate conditions.

Polarizing filters suppress disturbing reflection on mirrored surfaces like windows or water surfaces. As a result image information can be restored much better as the filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens, and saturate colors, providing better contrast.

Varying the effect is accomplished by rotating the filter, the effect of which can be seen through the viewfinder. The filter factor varies from weaker to stronger according to the filter rotation and its orientation to the sun. The B + W series of slim line filters are intended for wide-angle lenses and are a mere 3mm thick to avoid vignetting. Thus the slim line filters do not have a front thread.
