Review Summary

Sometimes I forget just how much better B+W filters are than others. I again tried a more budget-oriented brand and finally had to replace it. These polarizers are just so good - very pronounced effect, smooth turning, no perceptible color cast, and I have never, not once had a B+W filter get stuck on a lens. I have used the top -of-the-line polarizers from B+W, but honestly this entry-level model is all I need for my professional work.

Circular polarizing filter is a must for landscape photography. The B+W was a great choice. It fits snuggly on the lens but is easy to take off when not needed. Allows plenty of light onto the sensor while blocking reflections from water or chrome. Gives nice rendering of colors without being overly saturated.

An excellent choice

Circular polarizing filter is a must for landscape photography. The B+W was a great choice. It fits snuggly on the lens but is easy to take off when not needed. Before you capture the vibrant hues of autumn leaves or the stark contrast of radiant white clouds against a deep blue sky, ensure you're equipped with the 86mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter. This high-quality, durable filter is a crucial tool for both analog and digital photography, enhancing the purity of intrinsic colors and boosting color saturation for truly stunning images.
The filter's multi-coated coating is specifically designed to reduce reflections, glare, and lens flare, resulting in improved image quality and contrast. This makes it an effective tool for reducing reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, and glossy paint. The result Objects and people behind these surfaces, like those behind shop windows or car windshields, become visible again, offering fascinating image enhancement without the need for post-processing.
The 86mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter features a circular design that reduces vignetting and provides a more evenly distributed filter effect. This results in a more natural and balanced image. Because the filter mounts rotate, you can visibly control the polarization effect in the viewfinder or on your monitor display.
This versatile filter is compatible with nearly all modern cameras, making it an essential addition to your photography gear. It's designed to avoid exposure errors when beam splitters are used in the light path for TTL exposure metering or autofocus. The multiplying factor with HTC is 2 to 3, equivalent to 1 to 1.5 f-stops, making it more effective than other polarizers that go up to approximately 3 stops.
In landscape photography, the maximum polarization effect is achieved when shooting at a 90-degree angle to the sun. And with the help of a properly oriented polarizer, reflections can be completely suppressed in an ideal situation, where the lighting and shooting angles correspond to the angle of maximum polarization, usually 30 to 40 degrees.
In summary, the 86mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter is an easy-to-use, effective tool that enhances your photography by reducing glare and reflections, increasing contrast and saturation, and improving overall image quality.
