Questions & Answers

Shopper : does this lens work on a canon t3i?LEONARD L : I do not know. I use the lens on a Canon 7D and 5DII.KISHORE V : I don't have a t3i, I was using it on my 20D and just got a 60d. It worked fine.ANTON O : I have a 7D so don't know re t3i. But this is a fantastic lens - highly recommend. I found it especially valuable for late evening/night shots of city landscapes (buildings, monuments, etc.)ANNE-MARIE L : This is an utterly fantastic ultra wide angle. I had it when I had a canon 40 d which has a crop sensor like your camera does. It is really superb. I now have a full frame camera and the version for the full frame is the 17-40 mm. That 17-40 mm is one of the canon's with the red rim around because it is an L series lens .. supposedly their top of the line. Well, the 10-22 isn't technically an L series, but it is every bit as good In fact, it feels exactly like the 17-40. Also, this lens holds it value very well. I had it for years and very easily and quickly sold it in my community when I changed over to the full frame camera.BRUCE R : It's an EF-S lens so it should since the t3i is a APS-C (non-full frame) camera.
Shopper : Is this lens good for interior shots of rooms, showing room layouts, etc?LEONARD L : I have found this lens to be very useful. It is wide enough to catpure close ups of rooms and their layouts. I was however disppointed to find that it is not compatible with the Canon D5 Mark II. I use it with my Canon D7 which is not a full field view and somewhat defeats the use of a wide angle lens.DAVID S : I think the EF-S 10-22 zoom is as good an ultra wide angle as money can buy. It however cannot circumvent the laws of optical physics... therefore carful camera angle (especially in the vertical plane) and using the least wide angle necessary to get the job done will be necessary. The "Pros" using full format are envious that a lens of this price and quality is not available to them.JOHN F : As a top producing Realtor in Scottsdale AZ...that was my primary lens for shooting interiors. When shooting at 10mm the lens opens up the room and makes it look large. It was also great at getting into tight rooms like small 10x10 bedrooms and guest baths to make them look big and open. The photos were crystal sharp and I loved the lens. When I moved up to a Canon Mark II I was sad to let that lens go. This lens can not be used with the full framed sensor cameras! Overall I would say this lens was EXCELLENT!MAUREEN B : This lens is excellent for interior shots of homes. Its ultra-wide lens captures as much of the room as you'd need. I've used it for real estate photography of home interiors and it does an excellent job.SURIA Z : I think it's a great wide angle lens for landscapes. For interior I would say it's also a great wide lens where you will capture a lot of the room; however, with any wide angle there is a distortion that can be quiet troublesome to edit in photoshop. I've seen nice interior shots though with this lens. I was just more anal when it comes to distortion. For the price you do get a great landscape lens. For interior I just ordered a tilt shift lens that I've yet to try but it's also very expensive, so it really depends how much you are willing to spend and how much interior work you do. I like this lens but if you plan to use a full frame camera in the future this lens won't work, which is why I keep it in my old 50D.EDWIN H : This is an excellent lens for interior shots of rooms. If you have a crop sensor camera, I would recommend either this lens or the Tokina 11-16. Please keep in mind that the edges will distort but you can zoom in enough with this lens to avoid that distortion. But if you want the widest focal length for a crop camera then this is it. Quality-wise, this lens is superb and you won't be disappointed.JACK H : Best lens in this price range- go for it.JOHN W : Hello This is John and I am pleased to tell you that this is the best lense for Real Estate Agents: or other people that like to get a whole room in one shot. The lens is great for interior room shots showing room layouts. I am very pleased with mine johnJONATHAN N : This lens is perfect for interior shots because it will exaggerate the lines to make the rooms seem larger ( this is why they're widely used in real estate). In most cases, you'll be able to fit an entire room within a single frame without a hassle. The only downside is that if your interiors lack sufficient natural light, you're going to have to compensate for that by either cranking up the ISO, or using a tripod with a slower shutter speed since this lens isn't image stabilized. Hope this helped!MARTIN W : The lens should be fine for your interior shots. With any lens that can shoot as wide as this one, you need to be carefull with objects in the foreground that can become distorted. You will definitely want to make sure your lens is level to avoid curvature. I have used a 20mm prime lens for interiors for many years and love it. You really want lots of light to make your interior shots pop. Flash, hot lights or cool lights, it doesn't matter, except for your white balance. In general, shots taken with normal room light or a single flash tend to be okay for shoppers mags, but that's about It. DANA S : Yes, this lens is perfect if you are doing photography for real estate, interior design, or anything where you need a good shot of interior space, small or large. It was one of my favorite lenses I've ever owned but its uses are very specific to a certain type of photography.
Shopper : what is gray market?BRUCE A : "Gray Market" products are exactly the same as "USA." The only differnce is that Adorama absorbs the risk of providing warranty service rather than Canon.. You might look at this as saying that Adorama has a lower overhead rate than Canon, and therefore can provide any required warranty service at a lower cost.STEVEN C : Gray market goods are products that are exactly the same product as "official Canon" goods but since they are brought into this country through a means other than the regular official Canon USA, they are called gray market. They are new and Adorama offers the warranty on the products bought through their retail operation. I purchased this lens from Adorama and saved a little money by doing so and acquired a perfectly wonderful Canon lens!Katherine J G : When shopping for your Canon lenses, you will likely run into 2 versions of the same lens. One will be the "USA" model and the other will be denoted as "Gray/Grey Market", "Imported" or "Direct Import". What is the difference? The "USA" Canon lenses are imported to the US by Canon USA. "USA" Canon lens warranties are supported by any Canon service facility worldwide. They are also eligible for Canon lens rebates - both instant rebates and mail-in rebates. The "Gray/Grey Market", "Imported" or "Direct Import" Canon lenses are directly imported by the retailer or their import agent. They are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. At least they "say" they are not covered. Word on the street is that Canon covers gray market lenses under their standard warranty if an invoice from an authorized dealer can be produced. This mirrors my experience as well. Most reputable retailers will provide their own same-as-manufacturer's warranty on "Gray/Grey Market", "Imported" or "Direct Import" Canon lenses. Instead of sending the lens to Canon, you send it to the retailer. What physical difference is there between USA and Gray Market Canon Lenses? Usually none - in fact, I have yet to find a difference. These Canon lenses are made in same factory using the same parts and are identical in the finished product form. Reputable retailers would make any differences clear before you bought the lens. Scam retailers will give you lines such as "You have ordered the plastic mount gray market version of this lens". If you hear that line or any similar upsell tactic, consider a red warning flag raised. The attractive difference in a Gray Market Canon lens is price. The imported version is nearly always cheaper - sometimes even cheaper than with the rebates offered on the USA versions. So which should you buy? I'll let that decision up to you, but will say that I have far more than one copy of the "Gray/Grey Market", "Imported" or "Direct Import" Canon lenses.JOSEPH B : Gray market refers to goods reaching you NOT through the official sales channels of the manufacturer. It is perfectly legal, and as far as I can tell the manufacturer in this case doesn't even object, except very conditionally--by not offering an official warranty, and even that is debatable. This lens (which is fabulous) AND which I bought as gray market, fell off my desk the first year I had it. I wanted to kill myself. Instead, I filled out the webform at CanonUSA for warranty repair. Fingers crossed. They sent me a new lens! I love Canon! That's gray market through Adorama. Never done gray market (with a need for warranty) anywhere else. Go for it.MICHAEL B : Canon Gray market lenses are directly imported and are not covered by the Canon Warranty. If purchased from Adorama, you would need to go back to Adorama for warranty repair. They are physically the same as the "USA" lens. They are not an inferior product. The other main difference is typically in pricing, with the gray market costing less in most cases. Sometimes Canon will have special promotions and the "USA" lens can cost less. These special promotions do not apply to the imported lenses. I would personally go with the least expensive option.CONNIE S : I purchased a gray market lens several months ago. Although I had to return it as I didn't find the particular focal length useful for me at this time, I would not hesitate to purchase a gray market lens again. The few times that I did use it produced remarkable images and the lens worked flawlessly.EDWIN H : Gray market is a lens that is not covered by US warranty. It's essentially the same lens with the same accessories but it's made for some other country so it does not qualify for Canon's 1 year warranty

One of my favorites and a great value.

I bought this in 2004 with my 20D and still use it on my R6mkII which recognizes it and automatically switches to crop mode. It is my favorite 'walking around" lens on vacations.

Increased The Value Of The R7

I got this lens because I wanted a wider lens than the surprisingly good 18-150 that came with my R7 as part of the kit. I was concerned if the function using the EF-S would be an issue coupling this lens to the R7 using the EF to RF Canon adapter. I'm happy to say that the combination of R7 to EF adapter to the EF-S 10-22 lens works perfectly. Now I have the wide angle lens in a zoom range that I wished for. This will serve until Canon issues the 11-22 (or so) that I was hoping for.

Extremely Useful Lens

I got this lens for my 7D (first generation and I have to say, this is my go-to lens for what I shoot (travel/landscape). I use this lens for probably at least 60% of my photos.

The crop sensor vloggers best friend

In the world of vlogging you're at a disadvantage when using a crop sensor camera body. It's hard to find a fast 10mm lens that will take extenal Variable ND filters instead of the gels. This lens; in my mind, was made for us as well as others whom have to save up $4K for a full frame camera and lens. It's focal length is 16-35 on a crop sensor and is pretty fast to focus. I use a t7i and those 2 are made for each other. As long as there is a lot of light outside; throw a Variable ND filter and a Joby bendable tripod on to create. Those 2 will go alongside a 6D mkii with a 16-28 2.8.

This item has met my expectations

I purchased this item to compliment 2 other Canon lenses I have. 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8. This item has met my expectations in performance in just a few times using it.

Reduced price + Fast Shipment

I purchased this Lens with Adorama since it was less than [other sites]and it included all the extra goodies. It arrived in two days and in good condition. I shot a few pics with this lens and seems to perform as stated in it specs. Looks of better quality when compared with the one that came included with the Rebel Camera Kit. Looking forward to have a great time using this lens since there are a few new settings to be learned and waiting to be try out.

I expected more for the price.

I bought this 10-24mm wide angle lens because I heard so many photographers from the tutorials I have been watching, state that this is one that they usually carry in their bags for landscapes. I was about to go on my first trip to the Maine coastline and was extremely excited to try it out on those interesting seascapes. I was slightly disappointed. I could not get used to the barrel distortion on the edging and even if I used an ISO of 100, the noise was very pronounced. For the price, I was expecting more. I am sending this one back and probably spend a little more to try the 16-35mm.

Sharp and Wide

I've been experimenting with both lens and software since its arrival. The lens appears sharp throughout its range, and can be used pretty close to the sun without internal reflections when combined with the hood, which is HUGE, blocking the bottom quarter of the picture with the on-camera flash. I've got the 430EXII speedlite, and with the flash on the camera shoe the hood is out of play. Needs a good diffuser on the flash to use at ~15mm. Much below that focal length and you'd best be shooting ambient. I'm open to suggestions for spreading the flash, if anyone has one. Great inside and group lens if you have the light. Now to save up for the polarizer for wide outdoor shots.

As good as new

I love this lens. I bought it for the purpose of wide angle landscape(hopefully low light) shots when I go to Zion in July. In the meantime I've been using it for close ups, (within 2'-3') at interesring angles. I always read reviews of lenses before purchasing to understand the ranges and lmits of a lens.I've found those reviews not exactly helpful as I generally try to be creative and shoot beyond those limits. This lense is no exception to my style. Spend some time, get to know it. I think you'll love it!

Bought used but it's like new!

I love this lens. I bought it for the purpose of shooting low light landscape when I go to Zion in July. In the meantime I've been playing with close up, 2'-3' at interesting angles. I read the reviews but try not to limit myself by the things those reviews define. I'm having a great time with it. As always Adorama did not disappoint my expectations on the quality description or the delivery time. Love It.

A must have lens for Italy

Contemplating for months the need to fill the wide angle void in my lens collection, I decided on the Canon 10-22mm a week before traveling to Italy and boy am I glad I did. I used it for more than 50% of my 2600 photos. While the 24-70mm and 70-200mm take awesome photos, I often find myself backing up to capture a scene. In order to capture the vast expanse of Piazza San Marco or even a complete building façade from the narrow passageways and squares of Venice, a wide angle is a must. At the Vatican, statues high above the Saint Peters Square call for the 70-200mm, the Statue of Saint Peter, 24-70mm, but to capture the grandness of the Basilica or the square itself a wide angle is essential. To capture the complete and elegant majesty of the Colloseum from within, the 10-22 captures to within a few degrees of everything in your eyesight and you need it all. With this lens on my 7D at the end of a table, I could capture all six of us dining without crowding in, plus the surrounding restaurant scenery. Simply priceless photos!! If you want to capture your vacation, you need this lens. I can't imagine traveling without it now.

An Excellent Wide Angle Zoom Lens

This lens is the third leg of my lens group, having a Tamron 75-300mm telephoto and the standard Canon kit zoom lens for my Rebel T1a. I had planned on buying a new Tamron lens, but when I saw this E+ rated used Canon for about the same price, I decided on the Canon. It was a good decision. Sharp image, great color rendition, ultra-wide 10mm operation, good auto focus. The only thing it lacks is image stabilization, but I can deal with that by using a tripod. I'm expecting many years of good service from this outstanding lens.

About Canon 10-22mm

FEATURED REVIEWS

Very nice lens, but....

By Matthew M.

This is the first lens I bought for my 40D beyond the 28-135mm kit lens. As a newbie to the DSLR market (but not the SLR world!), I knew going in that 28mm was going to feel limited on the wide-end, so I did my research on various review sites. I concluded it was worth to spend the extra on the Canon 10-22 and bypass the cheaper Sigma extreme-wide-angle route. Let me say that this lens is absolutely amazing at doing what it purports to do. Fast and accurate focusing. Great pictures. Min...

Great Ultra-Wide Angle Lens

By Jon N.

This is an excellent lens for Ultra-Wide Angle which will not cause any Fish-Eye or Vignetting. Very light-weight, great sharp focus. Ideal for taking landscape, scenery, building, interior and architectural structure. Great for close up object as well.

EF-S Lenses
By reducing the distance from the rear of the lens to the focal plane and reducing the size of the image circle to match the size of the APS-C imaging sensor used in digital SLRs such as the EOS 20D camera and Digital Rebel camera,Canon's EF-S lenses reduce the size, weight and cost of wide-angle lenses for these cameras while at the same time producing high image quality with superb resolution and contrast at all focal lengths.

EF-S 10-22 3.5/4.5 USM
This exciting new zoom lens provides ultra wide-angle coverage to the EOS 20D camera and Digital Rebel camera shooter. Equivalent toa 16-35mm zoom for a 35mm film camera, it offers excellent performance and optics designed from the ground-up for digital SLR use. Excluding fisheye lenses, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens has the shortest minimum focal length ever offered for interchangeablelens digital SLRs with APS-C image sensors.

Photographers will achieve consistently excellent image quality throughout the zoom range of this lens because of its 3 Aspherical elements and 1 Super-UD element in a 13-element optical formula. A ring-type ultrasonic focusing motor (USM) provides fast and silent AF along with full-time manual focus. Minimum focusing distance is 9.5 inches for breathtaking close-ups. The EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens is relatively light and compact at 3.5 inches in length and a weight of 13.6 oz. The new lens accepts 77mm filters and can be fitted with an optional bayonet-mount lens hood.

Please Note: This lens is compatible only with the EOS 20D, EOS 30D, EO S 40D, EOS 50D, D7 and all EOS Rebel and EOS Digital Rebel models with APS-C siz ed sensors
Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras, or for 35mm size "fu ll-frame" digital cameras, e.g. 1Ds or Kodak Pro SLR/c.

Canon 10-22mm Features

  • Superior AF performance and speed, with full-time manual focus by simply turningring
  • Close-focusing to 9.5 inches, fill the frame with subjects as small as 3.6 x 5.4 inches
  • Relatively compact size and light weight for an ultra-wide zoom lens
  • Inner focusing system (no front element rotation); length doesn't change if zoomed
  • Circular aperture design, natural highlights, even stopped down two stops
  • Electronic diaphragm, manually-set apertures stay constant from f/4.5 thru f/22
  • Excellent optical quality and true wide-angle coverage with select digital SLRs
