I bought my Canon IS 10X30's way back in about 2007, I still have them and they still function perfectly. I use mine mainly for quick on the go astronomy. I store mine in soft case and as added protection, in a camera case. I love them! Great vista views. Good optics and comfortable to hold. As for the rubber binocular body going 'sticky', mine started to recently. I just cleaned mine with rubbing alcohol and it goes. I would highly recommend these binoculars. Gary Seronik of Sky and Telescope and, in his book: 'Binocular Highlights' also recommends these binoculars.

As others have noted, I too experienced a transformation of the outer material of the binocular into a very sticky mess. I purchased and placed a material that was advertised to help people hold their hand guns more securely. It isn't pretty, but it seems to work. But at the price for this item, it should never happen at all.

I bought my Cannon 10X30 IS Image Stabilizer binocs in 2013. Now the coating is sticking to my fingers leaving a black tar residue on my fingers. Impossible to clean the binocs. I clean my fingers with alcohol pads.

I have had these fabulous binoculars for several decades. They've been on many backpack trips, on a 12-day rafting trip in northwestern Canada. I use them in my volunteer role as a fire lookout. You really need to experience how great a difference the image stabilizer makes--just short of miraculous. I have several other high-end binoculars, but these are my go-to set. After having been knocked around for 20+ years, they still perform as though they were brand new.

This is my second pair of 10x30s. I've traveled with them around the world several times. Dozens of countries. Light weight. Needed another pair so I can share the experience. Tired of asking for them back. I truly love these binos.

I've had these for my boat and they have been wonderful. I've owned them for close to ten years without an issue. I'm now noticing the coating has become sticky. They function fine, but the sticky shell is nasty. I'll be looking for a cure to right this wrong.

I bought it a few years ago. Works very well. But the coating has become sticky. I am very disappointed with a great company like Canon not addressing this issue and not replacing this item free off charge, because they should. It is the fault in manufacturing.

Got these binos for my wife, she loves the IS option. after several year the outer coating became soft and sticky and is really nasty. If you put them down everything sticks to them and impossible to clean. Trying to navigate Canon's website for assistance is nearly impossible. Noticed a lot of others voicing the same concern. Do not purchase these 10X30 IS Bino's

As with most CANNON Products I've had over many decades, these initially functioned very well. But a "faulty outer-coating" on my 10x30 IS Binocs (has deteriorated over time into a sticky gooey mess) which has rendered them unusable. At the price of these, I think ONE STAR is being VERY GENEROUS.

I've had the original version for some 12 to 15 years and still really like these! I have friends with much more expensive binoculars and they may be sharper but the IS more than makes up for it! Only negative is it's easy to knock off the rubber eye cups.

The binoculars were bought to use at football games and they worked great until after a year or two the exterior coating started to deteriorate and become very gooey and sticky. It's much like how the adhesive on electrical tape can be sticky and get on your fingers, except much much worse. It is an obvious defect and should be replaced by Canon. Mine were always kept indoors in the case in a heated and cooled space. If the company should issue a recall and exchange them to help preserve their reputation.

I've had these 8 or 9 years. A few years ago the outside "rubber" coating started getting sticky. They're great binoculars with no Canon support or solution to the coating problem. I'm very disappointed in Canon and will not replace them with a Canon product.

We are boaters and these binoculars were great for about four years and despite keeping them out of the sun, the exterior coating became extremely sticky and left black marks on anything the binoculars touched. I see this is a common problem and Canon needs to address it. Otherwise, binoculars have been great -- good optics, light weight and good stabilization. One would think after several years and lots of reviews about the outside coating this would be addressed. Apparently, Canon will not repair this under warranty but will repair the binoculars for close to their original cost. I removed the outside finish with acetone and that solved the problem, but not a fun job.

The exterior coating has gone soft and sticky, including the rubber covering the eyepieces. Photo enclosed shows the deteriorated coating, edge wear, sticky surface, and impression marks left from my fingers.

The exterior coating has gone soft and will leave black tacky sticky residue on anything it touches (including all over your hands, clothes, and face. The black residue is very difficult to remove from your hands and fingernails (I had to use solvent on my hands and my wife's makeup remover on my face, soap and water does not work). I could not get the residue off of my clothes and disposed of them. I would like to ask what I should do in order to use my binoculars (short of throwing these out and buying new ones). The entire outer coating has gone bad, including the rubber covering the eyepieces, so it would not appear to be a usage/contact issue. Please help solve this problem! Photo enclosed showing the deteriorated coating, wear, sticky surface, and impression marks left from my fingers. Thank you for your assistance in this matter!

Absolutely disgusting mess. The cross-linking in the rubber compound has broken down and the exterior will leave black rubber residue on anything it touches (including all over your hands, clothes, and face). The black goop is hard to get off your hands and the product is defective. NEVER EVER BUY THIS, you will regret every moment once the case exterior has dissolved in your hands and the black goop is under your fingernails.

i have owned this model for over ten years with no problems up until recently the rubber casing has become sticky and appears to be disintegrating for no apparent reason. they still work well though. I will buy another pair eventually and hope that Canon fixes the problem with the rubberized casing.

I have had these binoculars for a few years. Excellent binoculars but after a couple of years, the rubber exterior of the body of the binoculars became very sticky is now disgusting to hold!. The rubber compound used was not properly vulcanized and is now breaking down.

I have had these binoculars for a few years. Initially very satisfied, but after a couple of years the rubber exterior of the body of the binoculars became very sticky and literally began rubbing off on my hands. I have tried various cleansers, even acetone to see if I could remove the stickiness to no avail.

They are fantastic while they work, but then one day, out of the blue, they will stop working properly. Then, you have to wrangle your way through Canon's repair web interface, which is sloppy and doesn't provide helpful feedback. It's a confusing and frustrating procedure accompanied by an egregious repair bill. I've been had! Never again, Canon.

I?ve had my Canon IS binos for 10+ years and they work wonderfully. If you take care of them, they will take care of you! I will buy another pair as gifts!

Binoculars work fine unless they get damp. Then the electronics short out and the stabilization stops working. Slow support and very expensive to repair. Not for use on boats or anywhere near water. Save your money and buy Steiners.

I have bought four of these binoculars over the years. They are clear, focuses fast, and stabilize the image. I gave sets to both daughters. Great to have!

Awesome binocs!

I have had these for 6 years, and they are still working great. The price has almost doubled since I bought mine. I also am having a problem with the coating melting away. I don't know if oils in hands or sunscreen have anything to do with it? The bottom line? The image stabilization is spectacular!

I have Parkinson's and I shake too much for regular Binoculars. I love watching wild life, but haven't do so for awhile, because I couldn't use my standard Binoculars. My wife, who uses nothing but Canon products, suggested I try these Binoculars. They are fantastic! I am back to enjoying our wild life trips and Eagle watching. Thank you Canon. I am now saving to purchase the larger IS Binoculars.
