I am interested in trains, airplanes and architecture. Machines in museums and crowded buildings require the short focal length. Works well.

I didn't buy the camera with the kit lens because I mostly shoot wildlife and I already had lenses from my 35mm EOS. But I needed a wider angle lens when I was asked to take pictures inside several homes to help a friend in Real Estate. Vignetting is VERY FIXABLE in Photoshop.

I am amazed at the image quality of this "cheap" lens. The IS feature has been terrific for indoor shooting, easily adding two stops of safe shutter speeds.

I really love this lens. I purchased a refurbished copy and works as good as a new one. I take sharp pictures and the ratio price/quality is great. You won't find a better deal. The only con I find is the focus range. Sometimes 55mm could be not enough.

I don't use the lens myself (bought it for my father, who recently bought a T1i with the 50mm f/1.8 II), but I tested it a few times on his camera and was quite impressed for how much I paid. Not sure how much the IS matters on this lens, but nice that it is there. I hardly use a wide angle, but own a 17-40L, and quite frankly this 18-55 doesn't too much worse (comparing on a 1.6x camera). The focusing is more tedious on the 18-55 however. In short, it's a great lens for the value. I would recommend it to anyone starting out, or anyone that wants a light-weight kit. f/5.6 at 55mm can be a little limiting. Otherwise, my farther likes the lens.

For a refurbish lens, it was good as new. Not a scratch, looked brand new. Working perfectly thus far. The lens is not bad, and not super, but a very good value for it's range and quite handy.

I have only a limited amount of use so far, not really enough for evaluation. So far it appears to be a very good lens. Thanks, JF

For the money this lens is hard to beat

I bought this inexpensive lens to help me decide the requirements I will need for my future upgrades. My kit lens lacked the 17-27 focal lengths. For the money, this lens is meeting my expectations. This is a kit lens, however, the inexpensive cost reflects the lens capabilities and build quality. I have determined my upgrade lens will have this focal length, larger aperture, better manual focus ring and hood. I purchased this lens as reconditioned, so I was very pleased the lens looked brand new. I would recommend this lens to people who are determining their requirements for this focal length, but have a small amount of money to spend.

I was considering higher priced and wider angle lenses, but I don't have a lot of use for a wide angle lens. I did want one for the occasional landscape shot. With this lens, I was thrilled to see no CA, no vignetting in the corners and edge to edge sharpness. One of the first scenics I shot with this lens, turned into a 16 X 24 for my wife. It turned out fabulous.

Bought this to extend the range of my 40D (which was an upgrade to my Rebel XT, which came with the previous version of this lens. Used occasionally when my 28-mm wouldn't do the trick.

This is quite a sharp lens and the IS is effective.

Great companion for the Rebel camera bodies. Quick focus, Image Stabilization, sharp, and great colors and contrast. Only thing better would be the 17-55 f/2.8 (which I own) for faster speed, but this lens is much easier to use and a lot more fun... because it's so light weight. Shoot at ISO 800 on any of the Rebel bodies and you'll have great results, even in low light.

Great all around lens! Just like new.
In response to demands of photographers, this standard zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining the compactness and lightness of previous models. Its stabilization allows sharp hand-held shots at shutter speeds up to four stops slower than otherwise possible.
It consists of 11 elements in 9 groups and uses an Aspherical lens element to correct aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range and a circular aperture for exquisite rendering of out-of-focus backgrounds.
Without a lot of size, weight or cost, this lens expands picture-taking possibilities any time slow shutter speeds are needed.
