Great lens if you know what you are doing. Lens is sharp and gives a nice contrast & color stepped down f8. In low light better use primes.

This is a great lens for the good price. Perfect for everyday use. The only negative thing that can be said about this lens is that it's a bit heavy. Otherwise, it is perfect. Bought this lens about 2 yrs ago and still can't think of anything better for the same price.

This is a great everyday lens. The AF is smooth and quiet. The image stabilization has allowed me to handhold images down to 1/20th of a second and still come out sharp.

I wanted a zoom that was somewhere in between the kit 18-55 IS that came with my XSi, and the 70-300 I bought with it. Sure, if I could have afforded it, I would have bought the 24-105 L, but that price was out of the question. The 28-135 IS USM is a very nice lens with a few draw backs. The biggest being "Lens Creep," with "Creep" being a very generous term, as when you point this lens down, the zoom instantly extends with a "Thunk." The only other drawback is that this lens has an older IS system, so you have to remember to turn it off when you use a tripod, or your pictures will turn out blurry. That said, I purchased this lens before a trip to Yosemite, and it was used for almost every picture. CA and Vignetting are very minimal combined with the crop sensor in the XSi. If you can't afford the 24-105 L, this is a great lens to settle for.

Good range of focal lengths for all-around usage in a single lens.

This is a great general purpose lens. It's a bit of a jack-of-all-trades to be _great_ at any one thing, but it produces really nice consistent results in most situations. It's not as sharp as my primes and it doesn't have the reach of my zooms, but more often then not, when I'm not sure what I am going to be shooting, that is the lens I put on my camera. I'm very happy with it. If it breaks, I'll buy another just like it.

This lens is a great step up from the kit lens or any of the lower rung lenses. It's not L class but for [$] it takes great pictures. Image stabilizer really adds to the features. Great mid-level lens.

I have bought this lens to supplement the kit lens and the 50 1.8 prime on my Rebel XT, the choice followed reading numerous web reviews - most of them very positive. I am dissapointed though. I have not experienced IS as a feature that helped me make even one good picture. I am very dissapointed with the sharpness and focusing of this lens. For instance, it was virtually impossible to make sharp images of my kids playing soccer, in spite of very good light conditions and trying all possible settings. In fact the images delivered by the kit lens were much better and sharper. I am thinking about alternatives to this lens, have not made my mind yet. IMHO the only good thing about 28-135 is that it adds pro looks to the Rebel body.

This lens fit my budget and was a great upgrade to the XTI kit lens. There are lots of reviews out there for this lens and I now agree with all the positives so I won't bore you with the details. [$] I was skeptical at first about the dealer separating it from the 40D kit and reselling. I was mainly concern with the packaging and shipment since it didn't come in the original OEM packaging. I thought to give it a try. Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied. The lens was brand new and was packaged nicely. It came with the Canon Warranty. I read somewhere that certain companies do not handle separated kit lens for resell carefully. But, this was not the case with Adorama. I would definitely recommend to anyone. Adorama rep was great too (Fred). He was able to address my concerns promptly. I received the lens in 4 days with free shipping. What a deal.

Portraits—no matter where you make them—are all about light, so start by searching for places where the light looks good.
Standard zoom lens with an Image Stabilizer and high zoom ratio. With the Image Stabilizer turned on, you can obtain sharp, natural-looking pictures in dim lighting without using flash or a tripod. Very handy for places where flash is prohibited. Uses ring-type USM for swift, silent autofocus and full-time manual focus. Closest focusing distance is 20 in. (50 cm).
