Fits and works well with my Canon R7 and 800mm f/11 lens. With that particular lens/body combo (equivalent to f/22) the images were dark unless I cranked up my ISO, which led to a lot of noise. If you're using this with a full frame camera you won't have that problem in bright light. Still, worked very well for the equipment I have. Looking forward to photographing the Eclipse with this (and my solar filters).

Works as a piece of L series lens equipment should. The zoom capacity is almost eliminated so users may want to consider adding the 1.4 to their bag too.

Most teleconverters leave a lot to be desired, especially the 2x TCs. I am very happy with the results I have gotten with the Canon 2x RF with my 100-500mm & 800mm. The autofocus is very good.

This extender works really well for lower shutter speeds. It loses too much contrast and resolution at faster shutter speeds - like for eagles. It showed too much grain at ISO speeds that normally produce very good results.

Good quality and it delivers nice pics with the RF 100-500 lens, focusing worked fine, expensive yes, but worth it

It is a nice feature to have, but the limitations on the the zoom are annoying. The 100-500mm is limited to 300-500, which is effectively 600-1000. I knew this before purchasing, but it cannot be overstated.

A recent "convert" to Canon mirrorless (R5), and have been super impresses with the RF mount lenses, so I was cautiously optimistic when I purchased this RF 2.0X Extender. I own/use the EF-mount 1.4X and 2.0X extenders (e.g. on my EF 28-300mm L, and 100-400mm L) and was, frankly, underwhelmed with some aspects of performance i.e. autofocus (loss entirely and/or difficulty in acquisition or holding focus). In particular, these difficulties manifest on the EF 2.0X Extender. I was extraordinarily pleased to find that the combination of the RF 2.0X Extender with my RF 100-500mm f4.0 exhibited none of those issues. Autofocus with this combination is responsive, accurate, crisp... from 300mm up to 500mm. (Caveat: No doubt assisted with the R5 IBIS in ways I cannot separate from my EF 2.0 Extender experience with my 1Dx III, and which may also yield different results on other Cannon mirrorless platforms) Short version: Exceeded expectations, especially with earlier experience with the EF-mount versions, and even set new expectations about performance. NOTE: In case you're not already aware, this RF 2.0X (and its 1.4X counterpart), will ONLY function at 300mm focal length OR ABOVE.

if you are using rf-800 or 100-500 you diffidently need this toy.

I was a little concerned going in that the optics would decline when paired with my new RF100-500 and EOS R, but I’ve been really impressed so far. I've taken some handheld moonset shots at 1000 (in fading light), as well a day shooting birds in the local riparian preserve. Very impressed with the image quality. As pointed out by others, on the rf100-500 lens it won’t extend all the way back down to 200 with the 2X extender on. I knew this before buying, but it’s also more annoying than I thought it might be. I like to cruise around fully retracted then zoom in on the subject - with this extender that’s difficult to do. Especially with faster moving subjects like flying birds. Autofocusing speed also takes a hit. But even with these minor issues this is still a fantastic accessory, and I’d definitely recommend.

ONLY for the 600mm & 800mm & RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 [Does NOT work with other RF lenses] and that should have meant I'm quick to return it; But, it works to double the reach of the 600 (1200) and 800mm (1600). Five stars - if I could use it on the RF 70-200, or 50mm or 85mm Four stars - knock one star for price Three stars - knock off another star for limited lens compatability Maybe it should go back. I'll give it a go for a few shoots more. No clue why Canon even bothered to finally make a teleconverter that you can't use on all RF glass.

Only works with 3 of the RF lenses all are already longer range lenses. will be returning it and if Canon keeps this up will be switching to Nikon.

Solid and useful, but not as sharp as the 1.4
The Extender RF 2x is a high-quality, durable, and innovative piece of photography equipment designed specifically for the Canon RF lens system. This versatile tool is the ideal choice for both enthusiast and professional photographers looking to maximize the magnification of their RF lenses.
Engineered to double the focal length, the Extender RF 2x is particularly beneficial for press, nature, and sports photographers who require additional reach without compromising on image quality. The extender is equipped with high-refraction, low-dispersion glass that expertly controls the curvature of field and chromatic aberration of magnification, ensuring the highest image quality possible.
The advanced lens design of the Extender RF 2x features optimized lens coatings and a unique 3-layer combined lens. This innovative design significantly reduces ghosting by minimizing the surfaces in contact with the air, enhancing the overall performance of the extender.
Constructed to perform in extreme conditions, the exterior of the Extender RF 2x is coated in the same white heat shield coating as used on the Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM lens. This feature ensures the extender maintains its performance, even in high temperatures.
In summary, the Extender RF 2x is a user-friendly, reliable, and effective tool that enhances the capabilities of your Canon RF lenses, providing you with the opportunity to capture stunning, high-quality images from greater distances.
