This lens is exactly what you need it to be. the image is sharp, the 35mm angle is highly versitile, and the fast f stop makes it great in low light. I personally use it for video but obviously its great for photo too. You can beat Canon

I love my 35mm lens! I started off with the sigma 35mm lens and upgraded to the canon version, both lenses are great but I did see more sharpness in the canon version. I shoot almost all my shoots with this lens and it doesn?t ever leave my site! Completely recommend this lens if it?s your type of focal length!

Super sharp across the frame, and beautiful bokeh. A real professional quality lens. Besides the weight, it's close to perfection.

I realy like this Canon prime L lens, especially for groups photos. Occasionally for environmental portraits. Tack sharp. Excellent AF performance, even under low light. My only nit is the use of a 72mm focal length. Most of my Canon L lenses are 77mm. I hate step-down rings, since they tend to bind can be a PIA to remove. They also interfere with using the lens cover and the lens shade.

I had been taking a 24-105 F4 and also a 16-35mm for portrait and landscape shots. While the 24-105 F4 is an excellent lens at 35mm, the 16-35mm II @ 35mm just didn't cut the mustard even with profile correction. After reading many reviews and seeking out lens align test shots, the 35mm 1.4 II came into view. This is one serious lens. Super fast, sharp, excellent bokeh and a superior portrait/landscape lens all in this one prime.

I rented this lens before buying and fell in love with it. It's easily my favorite lens in my kit. I'm not a pro by any means but this lens just takes the cleanest and tack sharp photos. Highly recommend if you're in the market for a 35mm fixed.

I previously had the 35mm Sigma Art which I loved but as Sigma's do it eventually went soft so I decided to pick up the Canon version this time. Great lens!

This is a great lens. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the price. Now days you can get as good if not a better primes for cheaper.

This lens won me over from the get-go. This is a fantastic around-the-house lens. Family events and walk around, this lens is great. All the quality you come to expect from canon. This is my capstone lens, I own (all L) 16-35, 24-105, 70-200, 85, 100 macro and the nifty 50 (non L). Wish I had bought this sooner.

I purchased the 35mm F1.4 II as a refurbished unit and truthfully its looks brand new with the exception of the original packaging. The quality is NEXT LEVEL compared to my 35mm F2 IS lens! I currently shoot with a Full-Frame Canon 6D. I am 100% satisfied with my purchase from Canon USA. All pros, no cons.

I bought this a few months ago but because of a combo of bad weather and some illnesses, I haven't gotten to use it that much. However, the few times I did the lens exceeded my expectations. One use: I took pre-race photos of a 10K and it gave me some of the best group and indoor shots I have ever taken with my 5D. I switched to a telephoto for the action shots outdoors but I probably would have done just as well with this lens.

Pretty great, almost perfect
By Sproesser
I am a big fan of Canon gear, but I'm not completely sold on their wider angle prime lenses, due to sharpness and other image quality issues. I own this lens and it steps up the bar for canon. My sharpest Canon lens seems to be the 135 f2 L, which has pretty much no visible CA, and crazy sharpness. The 85mm L is also pretty amazingly sharp. This lens is worth it. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the 50mm L. The Sigma beats it on image quality and price. My tests are with a 5DSR, so it'...

I love it!
By montanacurt
I bought this lens after I bought the Sigma 1.4 Art. I loved the images I was getting with the Sigma in terms of the quality of the focal range and color -- everything really. EXCEPT, I was using it primarily in very low light and was having consistent issues with Auto-Focus in low light wide open. I traded it back in and spent double to buy this lens. It is much better focusing in the low light for me.
A true modern classic: a standard wide-angle lens beloved by reportage photographers for its natural perspective, low-light capability and extraordinary optical performance.
Offers a wide-angle view with a natural perspective
A classic, slightly wide-angle 35mm focal length, loved by documentary photographers for its ability to capture a subject within its environment without distorting perspective.
Superb low-light performance
A large f/1.4 maximum aperture lets in two stops more light than an f/2.8 zoom lens, making this an ideal lens for hand-held photography in low-light conditions. Shooting at wide apertures allows photographers to limit depth of field. Creating such shallow-focus effects is one way that a subject can be made to stand out against a background, and is particularly effective when combined with the lens's wide-angle field of view. The lens's nine-bladed aperture renders out-of-focus areas smoothly and naturally.
Sets new standards in image quality
Blue Spectrum Refractive optics, made from an organic optical material developed by Canon, tackle color fringing by correcting chromatic aberrations to a degree not previously possible. Ultra Low-Dispersion (UD) optics and two aspherical lens elements provide incredible sharpness right across the frame - even when the lens is used wide open. Subwavelength structure coating boosts contrast and guards against flare and ghosting when shooting into the light.
Focuses quickly and discreetly, letting you capture the unexpected
Ring-type USM autofocus establishes accurate focus quickly and in near silence, letting you work without disturbing the scene. Full-time manual focusing allows focus adjustments without changing focus mode or removing your camera from your eye.
Keep shooting even in tough conditions
Canon's legendary L-series build-quality inspires confidence and adds durability. Weather sealing guards against dust and moisture, while a fluorine coating protects the lens's front and rear element from grease and dirt, and makes it easier to clean.
Blue Spectrum Refractive optics
Canon developed Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optics to tackle colored fringing in large-diameter lenses. This bespoke organic optical material is more effective at correcting such fringing than other technologies, like fluorite, Ultra Low-Dispersion (UD) or Super UD glass. Colored fringing is caused by chromatic aberration - a phenomenon where light of different colors is focused at different points. Using BR optical material in the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM minimizes this effect. Other elements in the lens can then be optimized to give superb sharpness, contrast and resistance to flare.
