The 30mm auto zoom EF lens is amazing! I've used it for portraits for a commercial shoot with a friend for his upcoming product. I have to say this product on its own is very appealing to the eye and I think it functions really well. The auto focus makes it a bit easier and quicker for ideal shots. The manual setting for focusing is also great for when you want to be specific with your focusing. I definitely recommend this lens to portrait photographers especially!

Love the lens. Check out Ken Rockwell's review of it and why it's better than version II of it. Does everything he says it does. I like that it comes with all sorts of extras. Three filters, cap leash, and cleaning kit and a focus puller! What a deal. Combine with Canon Rebates for further savings.

The Canon 35mm f/1.4 L is an incredibly great lens. Not only is it ultra-sharp and free from ghosts and most distortion, it has great bokeh.

I was debating between sigma and canon 35mm 1.4 because of 300$ in price but in the end, I still wanted my first prime lens. It didn't disappoint me any bit. Took it with me to the fair event and I didnt have to adjust any pictures using lightroom. It is just amazing how it is with low light, the contrast, super quick AF, and wide angle of view. Simply awesome lens.

I bought this for a large family portrait where the final image will be a very large wall print. So this was the best sharpest lens for my 5D Mark II. Looking forward to using at weddings also.

Hi there! I love this product. I am a wedding photographer and it has enhanced my portfolio immensely. The other lens I really love is the 50mm. This is a close second to that. It's fast, sharp and easy to use.

I've shuffled along with my kit 24-105mm L for the past several years, and it was versatile and very good quality. The Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM won't be as versatile but the quality is the very best I know. I don't normally shoot shallow DOF, so I will tend to shoot most pictures at higher apertures except in low light.

This is a really lovely piece of glass. Just might be my favorite lens to use on a APS-c crop sensored body (roughly 55mm there) I like the look of this setup over shooting with the 50 1.4 on a full frame body. It's the most "cinematic" looking lens to me with lovely bokeh. So much so that I thought there may be more blades in the diaphram construction, similar to a cine lens. But no, it's constructed of 8 blades as most of the nicer Canon lenses are. It's very sharp too. Especially at f2.8 and smaller. If you need a fast prime in this focal length, this lens, albeit expensive, it a nice choice. Sigma makes a new 35 1.4 that's considerably cheaper and very well reviewed. That one may be worth a look too.

SOLID at 1.4. That's all I need to say. But really, this lens is a work of art. Perfect size, weight and the images it produces are gorgeous. Great all-around lens on full-frame. Highly Recommended!

Everything you need for a 35mm lens, this one has it. It is super fast in auto focus and is really useful in low light as well. I use it for documentarian photographies and it just gives me constant good results when I am cruising around Boston. Excellent lens.

I have to be honest. I first bought the 35mm 2.0 because I was trying to save a few bucks. It did not take me long to realize that it was not the lens for me. So I confidentially ordered the 35mm 1.4 and it was LOVE at first shot! It nails focus on almost every shot and the bokeh is enough to make me swoon :) I can definitely say that since the lens arrived on my doorstep and I put it on my 7d, that it has not come off my camera! I can't wait to use it at my next wedding at the end of this month! It will probably be on my camera for almost the whole wedding, other than the ceremony! I would recommend this lens to anyone! I am a portrait and wedding photographer and I have found my new favorite piece of equipment!

I rented this lens first to try it out and I just didn't want to send it back. The lens produces super sharp images and gorgeous bokeh. I use it for both photography and video and have had amazing results. This lens stays on my camera 95% of the time.

I bought this lens knowing that a cold winter was on the way and I'd be spending a lot of time indoors with my kids and clients. I'm a natural light shooter, so the wide aperture was a big selling point as well as the wider angle, as I wanted to be able to shoot in smaller, enclosed areas. I cannot say enough about this lens. Tack sharp, fast, creamy bokeh--it's gorgeous! The only thing I don't love it for is headshots--but for those, it stays on my camera!

The Canon 35mm f/1.4 L is a sharp, fast focusing, excellent all-around performer that is "just right" on a full-frame (no sensor crop) camera like my 5DIII no matter if I'm shooting sports, landscape or fine art images. It will be a great buy even with the new 35mm f/1.4 L II that's soon to be released.

I use this lens primarily as a portrait lens for stills and as a video lens. In either situation is performs admirably. Canon's primes are certainly worth the cost.

Needed a lens that could take pictures in dark situations. This lens is really good at just that. It quickly find the subject and latches on. (not as quick as my canon 85 1.8, but still fast) the only downfall for me was in the noise of the focus. by no means is it loud, but its louder than i expected from an l lens. again, nothing to return the lens over, but you can hear the focus motor working when it does search for a focus point.

I did not realize how much I missed a great prime lens like this. I had one for my original minolta years ago but hadn't replaced it. I was often thinking - why can't I get this or that shot and now I know - I used to have a great lens. How nice that now I have one again.

I bought this after giving up waiting for the mark 2 version to come out and I have to say I'm glad I did. The lens is fantastic!! I use it for weddings and events and it sits on one camera while the 70-200mm is on the other. I find it a perfect partner to the 70-200 and will be happy shooting that combination for most of the day. Fast focus and super sharp. Great lens to add to the collection.

I shoot the streets, among other things..... On my 7D this lens translates to about a 55 mm. This works for me in 70-80% of the shooting situations I find myself in. AF focusing is easy and quick. AF is great......except in low light where I focus manually. I always manually focus when I have time. Bokeh is wonderful. Though you have to be careful what you focus on. At wide apertures you can get one eye in focus and the nose or other eye, completely out of focus. With a little practice I learned to control the depth of field and focus appropriately for each subject....... Make sure your diopter setting is correct or you'll swear the lens is back or front focusing....... I love the lens for video. I really enjoy that high production quality look this lens gives............... LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

I am from Europe and during my visit to US I bought this. I knew that I have a risk, because the Canon's Warranty doesn't work in Europe, but I thought it is an L-lens. Canon quality, for over 1000 Euro. Little did I knew. First problem was that photos at f/1.4-f/2.0 were VERY blurred even at the center. No matter how I focused: AF, manually or in the live view. I've sent it to the official canon service center in Germany. They told me that Focus Plane was wrong. They took the lens with my camera and after 1.5 month and 180 Euro I got it back. Yes, the center image wide open became better, although still much worse than my Canon 50mm f/1.4 at same apertures, but the was new problem: on the sunny day @f/1.4-1.8 the lens gives extreme purple halo on all light objects. Like CAs but in the center and much much bigger that in the corners. Now they say that it should be like that. I recommend to avoid this lens and take either Canon 35mm f/2.0 or Sigma 30mm or Samyang 35mm f/1.4, or buy Nikon and their cheap and excellent 35mm f/1.8)

I love this lens if you are leaning towards the 24mm or the 16-35mm and this lens I would put this one above those and get it!

I bought this lens because I live in a colder climate and shoot indoors much of the year. I love the focal length and ease of use. It's quick to focus and is a very reliable lens. I get crisp images. I would definitely recommend this lens!

Don't tell anybody but this lens is great. I can shoot at a reasonable ISO in the morning while I am waiting for the bus in the dark. The bokeh at f/1.4-2.8 is amazing. "Forget about it", as we say in NY......... If you can afford it, or even if you can't and have room on you credit card, go get one......................

I thought long and hard before purchasing this lens and read tons of reviews. I have a full frame camera and find this lens is attached most of the time. It is very sharp and easy to use at smaller aperatures. It does take some practice to use at F2 and below due to the shallow depth of field. But the results are worth it. Color, contrast and background blur are really nice. Having said that I don't think this would be the lens I would choose for other than a full frame camera.

Great lens and have nothing bad to say about it. I would just recommend knowing your style ahead of time before jumping into this and its cost.

Canon EF 35mm F1.4 L - Outstanding
By George
Mated to an EOS 1Ds this lens is superb. Open up to F1.4 the lens is sharp and detailed. Contrast is excellent. Depth of field is only an issue when subject to camera distances are small. Otherwise focusing is not as critical as the 85mm F1.2. Some lens flaring or chromatic abberation is evident when wide open (F1.4, although many very fast lenses exhibit this;no evident approaching F2.0 and above. Buy and use with confidence. Use it in a church or apartment and shoot with ambient lightting. ...

Stunningly Good.
By kwanghui
The 35/1.4 is a beautiful lens. It focuses quickly and silently. Image quality is top notch, and bokeh at sub-f/2 is stunning. I have shot several thousand images using this lens and am very satisfied with its performance. This lens works really well for family group shots, landscapes and urbanscapes, low light shots and portraits (full body not closeup head/shoulders). I suggest leaving the lens hood on all the time to avoid flare and to protect the glass. I have used many other lenses tha...

L-series professional f/1.4 wide-angle lens with an aspherical lens element to correct aberrations. The floating system enables high picture quality to be obtained over the entire focusing range. Autofocusing is quick and quiet with rear focusing and ring USM. Full-time manual focusing is also possible.
Fast aperture and swift focusing
The EF 35mm f/1.4L USM has a maximum aperture many stops faster than that found on a standard zoom lens, allowing a photographer to keep shooting hand-held when light levels begin to fall. An ultrasonic motor (USM) enables extremely fast focusing in near silence, and a floating lens element means consistent sharpness throughout the focusing range.
Aspheric lens element
Thanks to an aspherical lens element, the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM produces images that are distortion corrected. Consistent image quality all over the frame is ensured.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate color balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting - a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
L-series quality
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
Integration with E-TTL II flash metering
The lens passes distance information back to a compatible EOS camera's E-TTL II flash system to ensure optimal flash metering.
