I am thrilled with this lens. I use it on my Canon T4i for video. It makes the camera much more discreet, portable and user friendly - especially when shooting kids: the camera with this lens is so light I can easily get down on their level and get some great angles. The quality of the footage is terrific, it is a little slow on auto focus, but I use mostly manual focus which is smooth and easy.

This is an exceptional lens. The AF is fast and accurate. More accurate than my 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens, which I use mostly with MF. The 40mm STM is almost as sharp as that 100mm, which is one of the sharpest Canon lenses. Amazing clarity at 100% zoom in lightroom. The color and contrast I get from this lens is incredible. I also love how small and light it is. It makes it very hand-holdable in low light, because its shortness will exaggerate shake less than longer lenses do.

Good lens for the price. Refurbished means it has been inspected by a technician so I have faith the lens is free of defects. I have used the lens on my 6D body mostly shooting indoors with less than ideal lighting. Focusing speed and accuracy is decent. Pictures are sharp and bokeh is smooth enough. It's a great compact and lightweight lens. I don't have to worry about bumping the lens into something while it is strapped to my shoulder since it hardly protrudes from the camera body. The only complaint I have is the focus-by-wire ring on my particular lens doesn't have smooth consistent travel while manual focusing. Most of the time the ring travels smoothly but sometimes I feel more resistance while turning the ring at certain points. Since the focus ring isn't directly connected to any lens elements it doesn't affect focusing performance however.

As of right now I have been using the 40mm mostly with indoor shots. I like how quite it is and how quickly it can focus, though I found myself having to leave it in manual focus to get the shots I wanted.
