I use this lens for wildlife photography and it works like a charm. Great wide open and super sharp overall. Expensive but well worth the money if you need this much reach.

The Canon EF600MMF4L IS USM lens is unbelievable. I wish I could upload just one image I have taken with it. Also I had the EF500MMF4L for 4 days and returned it for this lens. The only complaint is the draw string for the lens cap, which came apart, then the plastic adjuster broke. Also it is long enough that is interferes with the mounting shoe when the sun shade is in the reverse position. But it is one heck of a lens. Plus I'll have arms like Arnold by the end of the summer.

I already have 9 Canon " L " Lenses and 5 regular Canon Lenses--This Lens 600 MM. F/ 4.0 L IS USM are the best Canon Lens that I ever have-Super Fast in AF. and Great AI servo AF, -Super Sharp in Details, Great / Beautiful contrast of Colors and Great Shallow DOF. for Bird Photography. I bought this lens 6 years ago and have used it in several trips to Africa and other photo trips. In spite the fact I had dropped from top of a jeep down to the ground, exposed to rain, dust, vibration, and many, many trips, this lens is still as sharp as the first day I bought it. It is built like a tank. Many pictures taken with the 1.4 and 2.0 X extenders would look phenomenal as long as one knows how to get the best exposure and minimize vibration. No other lens would come even close at this focal range. It is worth every penny!

I have used this lens for wild life and it is very hard to take a bad shot with this lens. The IQ and size are royal. It is built like a tank (including size. It is pretty fast at AF of fast moving subjects. You need to plan ahead your shooting, since it is a heavy lens. Used with a 1.4TCON along a crop body and you have some reach.

I've been using this lens for 4 years now. It's been with me in -40C (sub arctic) temps and it's been in the rainfrorest's of SE Asia repeatedly. I've never had an isuse with it. That's not to say the glass doesn't fog up in 95% humidity - that's to be expected from any lens! Glass is sharp, Quality of construction is consistent with what you would expect for the price you'll pay and switching from A/F to manual is seemless and pain free. Things to consider: How to move this lens around. It does fit in a specialized backpack and I've had no issues on large Boeing's and Air Buses in the overhead compartment. It does not fit on most of your little twin seater / puddle jumping Cesna's so you'll have to pray nothing happens to it when you hand it over prior to embarkement.! Be prepared to have a quality mounting / support system. It is immposible to hand hold no matter how well endowed you think you may be!

5 stars in every category because the 600 performed better than I expected... coupled with the 1.4 extender and a Mark lll I have the perfect surf camera set up... now if I can get Nalu to smile when he takes off at the point at Makaha!!!
