Questions & Answers

PETER C : I'm currently using Yongnuo RF 603 tranceivers with multiple Canon 580 EXII's and they work fine. Can I also add one Canon 600 EX RT to this setup. I understand it will not do ETTL, but will it work manually?CHAD K : I owned a Canon 600 EX RT when they were first released. If you don't require TTL flash, I highly recommend the Youngnuo YN- 560 III flash. You can buy about 6 or 7 of the flashes for the price of (1) Canon 600 EX RT. they work well and are an incredible value. I have owned 3 of them for 2 years with no issues.
LAWRENCE M : Is the 600EX-RT speedlite compatible with older Canon speedlites (580 & 430 series) when used in conjunction with transceivers such as Radio Poppers and Pocket Wizards?JERRY S : I think yes. I used a 600 EX-RT with a 580 EX II together with a radio trigger. When on the camera the 580 will fire the 600 visually but the 600 cannot fire the 580 by radio. Hope that helps.HENRY W : Should work. But with pocket wizards, depending on which iteration you have you are going to be working with manual settings instead of taking full advantage the RT of the 600ex-rt. Not too sure about radio poppers. I'm I believe you most likely will be running into the same situation with the pw's I just ended up switching all of my flashes to 600's and selling my older ones. Less interface to learn and deal with!JASON D : Yes this can be used in conjunction with older transcievers and older flashes.
CHRIS F : Is an on camera transmitter required to operate the 600 EX speedlite on my 5D II off camera?JAMIE T : This may not be much help, but I have a 5D III and have always used my pocket wizards to trigger the 600-EX. I believe I looked into this when I first purchased the flash, though, and I'm pretty sure that you would need a canon transmitter on your camera to trigger the flash. Sorry I can't give a more definite answer.GRACE M : NoANNE P : I purchased the strobe as a gift for someone else.Benjamin W : Yes, the Canon ST-E3-RT transmitter is required.ESTHER M : hi. i dont use the 5d 11 so i wouldnt know. im sure the manual of the camera would tell you. when i have canon questions i call them directly. find them very helpful. or you can email the salesman i usually deal with at adorama. his name is efram good luck!MARTIN B : The 600EX-RT will respond optically. I have a 5D mark III (no built in flash) and use the 600EX-RT (slave) and a 580EX II (connected using a 30foot OC-E3 cable). The 30ft cable is cheaper (Chinese) than the E2 transmitter (optical only) or the E3 transmitter for (radio only) transmission to the 600EX-RT exclusively. Lacking the 2nd flash on your camera I suspect you will have no choice other that the E2 or E3 transmitter. The E2 will integrate seamlessly with the 5D but the E3 will probably have to be setup on its own. Check Canon support to see if they have a ROM update for your camera/transmitter combo.STEPHANIE C : Hi! Your camera will need some way to communicate with the 600 EX if the flash is being used while off your camera's hot shoe. You can accomplish this wirelessly with an on-camera transmitter, or if you don't mind a cable, you could use a camera-specific cable to communicate between your camera and the flash. I have loved my 600EX beyond measure! Be sure to take advantage of light modifiers like soft boxes or the Rogue Flash Benders to soften the 600 EX's flash for indoor candid shots. Enjoy!Sharna W : If you want to operate it as an off camera flash you will need a transmitter or set of triggers, or another flash head to trigger it.BRIAN B : Yes unless you use a sync cord. Your choice

Loses Sync

Loved this flash for many years, but these flashes are no longer reliable and lose sync with the trigger. Likely due to radio interference from either wifi or cell signals. I have 3 of them and 2 triggers and they are essentially worthless for intended purpose now.

Unreliable radio connection

Very unreliable radio connection in settings with Wi-Fi interference; like everywhere other than a park. There is no fix. Problem is well documented on Canon user forum. It's a shame as the build quality and feature set is up to canon standards. It's just useless if you need reliable off camera flash.

600EX-RT very nice

I really like it. Took it on an indoor museum shoot and it did well. I didn't have time to read the manual but got a few things figured out. The photos turned out much better than I anticipated.

Excellent unit

The speed lite integrates perfectly with Canon cameras. Powerful and consistent. The strobe-light is particularly useful for action photography. The lcd screen is intuitive and easy to use. I highly recommend this product.

Extras Make A Difference

I received my order on time. I paid the same price I would have paid on other sites but Adorama offered extra gear at no additional price. They were nice goodies too! Besides, Adorama is a camera store. I would rather buy from someone who knows what they are selling.

Read My Review in Contrast to Other

This flash is BIG improvement over the 420 EX and 580 EX! Weather resistant seals, much improved locking mechanism, a lot of getting used to in features available. Mine worked perfectly out of the box with or without the flash cord on my 7D. Unfortunately the 7D doesn't have wireless, just optical, triggering. But still, all WITHOUT any cords to come unplugged, short out, etc. etc. The other reviewer should have contacted Adorama with his problem instead of just complaining about it! They'd have solved it, quickly. Always have for me.

Flash great but kit items poorly matched

The Flash works straight out of the box when mounted directly on EOS 5D Mark III but no way to attach flash to kit supplied fash bracket with kit supplied off camera TLL cord because their is no male hot shoe mount on one end of the cord. The flash bracket packaging clearly shows an off-camera TTL cord with male portion of a hot shoe mount on both ends of the cord. Look at the picture of the flash bracket and you will see a hot shoe clamp where the flash attaches. Now look at the off camera TTL cord and it is flat on the bottom on the end where the flash attaches terefore there is no way to fasten the cord end attached to the flash to the hot shoe clamp on the flash bracket making the flash bracket virtually useless.
