Questions & Answers

Ketan S : does this has a socket for inserting external battery pack for speedlite flash and will it work with my Canon EOS Rebel t3i?AARON S : yes you can use an external battery pack to power this flash but you need to leave a set of batteries in the unit as well. you can use it with the rebel but it won't have full capabilities. you need to have a Canon mark iii or higher to utilize all of this unit's capabilities.Ivan R : With 4 AA batteries i havent need an external battery but ther are some if your needing lots of power and fast recycling , yes it will work for your t3iDOUGLAS A : Yes it does. Just like the 580. Can't answer the t3 question. But I don't see why not.EMERY W : Yes and yes!
Stephanie G : Does this flash come with a stand and a mounting bracket?ROBERT F : The flash comes with a speedlite case (with belt loop); a mini stand and color filter holder that mounts on the front of the flash and would hold your different filters (not included). I am not sure what mounting bracket you are referring to.GARY L : It comes with a standard Canon, black plastic, shoe mount stand that slips into a pocket inside the Canon flash case. The stand has a 1/4 20 female threading, if you wished to mount it to 1/4 20 screw threading, like is on many tripod heads or smaller light stands. You could mostly think of the stand as a display stand, it's not much but, it suffices for holding the flash upright for placing on a flat surface where you might need it. For a good stand mount, look at Photix, Manfrotto, etc. you'll want one that has a hot shoe connection, for connecting to a common light stand.DAVID A : The flash comes with a small plastic stand that slides into the hot shoe. This plastic stand has a threaded hole (¼" I think) that allows it to be mounted to a light stand, tripod.
BRENDA K : Are Open Box items used ?JEFFREY B : I, too, bought this flash as an open box and noticed that it appeared brand new. Not even a scuff on the box.MARK P : I bought the Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT as an open box item, and it looked brand new. Everything was in the original box, with all the original plastic wrapping.jimmy m : Have bought 2 open box items from Adorama. One was this flash which looked new never used. And the other being the Canon 85mm 1.2 V2 which was also packaged mint as new. Buy it, you have nothing to worry about, but to save yourself $30.MICHAEL P : A follow-up to my last answer. I had open-box and used items confused. Open Box has a higher chance of being unused, but could be the flash that was on display for testing or some type of demonstration. OR it could be an item that was opened, and sent back without being used. On the plus side, you still get the full 1 year warranty, which is all you can ask for anyway, since that's the same as a new unopened flash.Terri B : Nope they're not used. I purchased an open box Canon 5D MK3 from adorama and before I purchased, I asked around too. From what I learned it's usually overstock or the exterior of the box may have some wear. Or perhaps an employee opened the box once to show a customer. Everything in my camera box was brand new. I've used it for several weddings without issue. Trust me it'd be an excellent purchase.WENDY D : I was told they were used at shows, and possible in the store for demonstration to prospective customers. I bought an open box 600, and love it. It came with all that it should in the box, and works wonderful. There were no dings or damage-looked brand new. Well worth it, to me, for the price I paid. And you have the same warranty as new in the box, from the date of purchase.

Very nice flash

I bought this flash to use at a Boy Scout camp. It worked wonderfully as a fill flash in the early evening and then as the primary source of light later. Very pleased.

Best Flash I have ever had

A few years ago we had a few of the lower to mid range Canon flashes and saw a better value doubling our flash count with Younguo's. they were reliable and inexpensive... but not for long. they soon would over heat and burn through batteries. eventually after a few close calls we decided to take a chance on these that seemed much more expensive... (i thought i would never do it!- not when 3 Younguo's could replace one of these!) but i was wrong and these truly are a reliable and very fine piece of equipment. they seldom get warm. they can produce results back to back during the busiest of weddings we have done. Even when i meter the flash up! the Younguo's i constantly had to turn down and over compensate with ISO just to get through the wedding! now i am less stressed about my equipment and my work is better! DON'T BE FOOLED BY LESS EXPENSIVE OPTIONS. & UNTIL CANON RELEASES A REPLACEMENT: THIS IS THE ONLY FLASH I WILL USE!

I just got my new 600EX-RT Speedlite and it is working great so far for my location shooting

I just got my new 600EX-RT Speedlite and it is working great so far for my location shooting. I wanted to use it in my studio as a second light and was unable to get the flash to fire optically from the flash of the main studio light. Customer service was very helpful but was not able to find a solution. Apparently, it won't necessarily respond to the flash of another light. Bummer.

Open Box is a keeper!

I was reluctant to buy the speedlite because it was open box. You can't even tell that the box was opened it's in perfect brand new condition and working order. Aside from that, the flash works as expected, although more user-friendly in comparison to my older Canon 580EX. It's easier to quickly change settings and I love the easy snap over lock mechanism compared to the 580EX which was a screw on shoe mount. I didn't need to buy a new diffuser. I had the Vello diffuser made for the 580EX but what I did was place it into boiling water, then dried it while it was still hot and the plastic was moveable and stretched it onto my new 600EX and let it dry and now the fit is molded to my new flash. Voila! New flash worth every penny.

Great in for several types of shoots

This is a great flash and coupled with a dome style diffuser, it covers a lot of ground. I use it both on and off camera for everything from real estate photography to events where low-light and motion are often an issue. It has been responsive and reliable for me, and the layout is easy to use.

Strong flashes, but not the easiest menu options

I like how they sync wirelessly but thought the menu on the 580ex were easier to understand. Maybe I just need a tutorial/ seminar. I know, not your normal opinion but thats how I feel.

Beautiful! Powerful flash

By MELISSA M.

Beautiful! Powerful flash - very easy to use and navigate right out of the box. Highly recommend!

Canon's new Speedlite 600EX-RT is engineered to provide a new level of performance and reliability for professional flash photography with today's most advanced DSLRs. With wireless two-way radio communication, the Speedlite 600 EX-RT allows photographers to expand their creativity using wireless speedlites with the reliability of radio triggering. The Speedlite 600EX-RT offers an expanded zoom range and a higher guide number, plus a number of improvements over its predecessor in both operation and feel. It features a new dot-matrix LCD panel for display of all pertinent shooting information, backlit controls plus an internal sound generator. Reliability is ensured with improved hot shoe contacts, improved flash head durability and the most comprehensive dust and water sealing system ever on a Canon Speedlite flash. A new color filter holder helps maintain accurate color in a variety of ambient light conditions.

New wireless multiple flash system using radio wave communication for enhanced control of up to five groups of flashes

New wireless multiple flash system using radio wave communication for enhanced control of up to five groups of flashes
In addition to traditional optical wireless transmission, the Speedlite 600EX-RT facilitates radio controlled, two-way wireless transmission up to 98.4 feet, among up to 5 groups with a total of 15 individual Speedlites. Communicating on 2.4 GHz frequencies, the Speedlite 600EX-RT does not have the same directional limitations of traditional wireless optical transmitters. 15 transmission channels are available, selectable manually or automatically, and radio transmission IDs can be set to prevent misfiring in the event of signal interference on the same channel.

Zoom flash head covers wide range of 20-200mm

Zoom flash head covers wide range of 20-200mm
The Speedlite 600EX-RT has an improved guide number of 197ft. (60m) at ISO 100. It offers 20mm to 200mm coverage, and when the extendable wide panel is pulled out, flash coverage moves as wide at 14mm. Plus, to maximize power and minimize energy consumption, the Speedlite 600EX-RT can be directed to zoom in accordance with the cameras image sensor size (full-frame, APS-H & APS-C).

Redesigned contact construction

Redesigned contact construction, improved flash head durability, and exceptional dust and weather resistance for reliable operation
The flash head is more rugged and durable than its predecessor and a redesigned hot shoe contact ensures seamless communication. Dust and water resistance has been improved significantly as well: all moving parts and areas surrounding the flashes display and buttons are sealed for uninterrupted performance in harsh conditions. A new dust and water resistant adapter for the mounting foot creates a dust and water resistant seal between camera and flash.

AF Assist Beam compatible with Canon's new 61-Point High Density Reticular AF

AF Assist Beam compatible with Canon's new 61-Point High Density Reticular AF
Working in conjunction with EOS SLR's, the Speedlite 600EX-RT automatically provides illumination using its built-in AF assist beam. This means more accurate AF, faster, even in dark or low contrast situations, with all lenses 28mm or longer. Compatible with the AF frame of all EOS cameras, the Speedlite 600EX-RT even works perfectly with the 61-Point High Density Reticular AF found in the EOS-1D X, EOS 5D Mark III.

Dot matrix LCD panel and backlit button provide easy visibility
The Speedlite 600EX-RT features an all-new dot matrix LCD panel (172 x 104 dots). This new LCD displays Flash status, wireless configuration and all flash settings with more detailed information in comparison to previous systems. With its new screen combined with backlit operation buttons, the Speedlite 600EX-RT is as easy to operate in the dark as in daylight.

Color filter holder for attaching Canon and third-party color gelatin filters
The Speedlite 600EX-RT features a new color filter holder. By placing a color filter over the front of the flash head, the color temperature of the flash can be made to match that of the ambient light. Color information and light output decrease can be transmitted from the Speedlite 600EX-RT to the camera for proper white balance and exposure.

18 Custom Functions and 7 Personal Functions for creative flexibility
Options include Flash exposure bracketing controls, modeling flash, test firing controls, AF assist control, power and energy saving features, beep and much, much more. Personal functions, like LCD panel illumination color and Master/Slave configurations are also easily set on the Speedlite 600EX-RT.

Full swivel, 180° in either direction
The head can be angled 90° up, 7° down and can rotate 180° left and right. A bounce lock with release button helps things stay in place. Additionally, when the flash head is positioned front and up 90°, the Speedlite 600EX-RT features a catch light panel to create catch light in the eyes of the subject for a more expressive look
