I have over 5,000 photos taken with this lens. Selling on eBay the better the photo the better the sale. When I started using this lens sales and prices realized ticked up.

Great lens. Nice sharp crisp pictures. No stabilizer is a pain and it doesnt have the built in ring light like some other models. Takes really nice portraits and ok for macro. High quality build as well. Feels nice and solid.

The lens arrived on time and was packaged well. The build quality was excellent. The images were crisp, when they were sharp. When comparing it with the EF-S 35mm f/2.8 IS STM macro, though, I actually ended up preffering the 35mm. Yes, it was nice having the longer focal length of the 60mm, but I found it to be easier to get sharp hand-held shots with the 35mm because of the shorter focal length and the amazing image stabilisation. If the plan is to use it on a tripod then by all means go for the 60mm! Otherwise, read on... Even when using flash in low light, that was certainly the case. The 35mm is also a more use-able focal length for other scenarios, such as travel photography, and is much lighter. I like to shoot in natural light without the flash, so not having image stabilisation on the 60mm made a much bigger difference than I thought it would. 60mm versus 35mm also didn't make as big of a difference as I thought it would. In both cases, prepare to get down and dirty for the shot. I took a photo of a large fishing spider with the 35mm last summer and got an excellent shot in the dim lighting using the LED lights, but had to get uncomfortably close. With the 60mm I would have been a little further away, but wouldn't have been able to get the shot because of the lack of image stabilisation. I also found that the 60mm would focus hunt more when moving from macro to non-macro focus and didn't find the USM focus ring to be that much better than the STM one on the 35mm. After weighing all of these results I returned the 60mm. If a longer focal length is top priority I would highly recommend getting the EF 100mm f/2.8 IS USM macro lens to get the best of everything, but be prepared to spend a lot more money and carry a hefty piece of equipment everywhere. Another alternative is to buy a zoom lens with a short close focusing distance and high maximum magnification such as the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, which can also focus very close for slightly larger subjects, but you can be sitting several metres away and still get the shot with its excellent image stabilisation.

This is a very well built lens with excellent optical clarity and resolution. I did test shots with a 50 mm canon prime lens and with two canon zoom lenses which I set at 60mm. I had been satisfied with my other lenses, but in comparing shots I found the images on this macro lens to be sharper. And only a macro can get you in as close as this lens. It does take a bit longer to auto focus and it makes a little bit of noise while doing so but not planning on using for video.

I think by far this lens is the best of all of the lenses that I own! The pictures I have taken with this lens are amazing! I would recommend the Canon EF-S 60 mm f/2.8 Compact Auto Focus Lens before any other lens!

I know there are more expensive Macro lenses but for the price and if you are willing to work around a few limitations this is a remarkable lens for its cost.

I would definitely recommend this lens. In addition to being a macro lens, it is also a great lens for portraits and for general walk-around. The photo that I have shared was taken two days after I received my lens and illustrates the value of this lens in terms of sharpness and yet shallow depth of field to be used when making fog images. I love this lens. I'm looking forward to using it in macro images (photographing food) and in portraits.

I purchased this lens in 2010. I had no idea it was going to be the workhorse it has become. Of course, its forte is macro photography. I've had it eight years and I'm still amazed at the quality of images it captures. These days, it's mounted to a T4i. Occasionally, it does fish for focus which I think is mostly due to the body, looking forward to a 7D MKII. Auto focus issues aside, I love this lens! The first three images were captured with a T1i, the cat and the purple flower were captured with a T3i. I purchased a T4i in 2014. My experience has been that images on this site don't appear super sharp, however, I can assure you that the images captured with this lens will put a smile upon your face. Also, right now, the price here on the Canon website is smokin!

I'm so glad I got this lens. Its great for portraits and of course macro photography is wonderful with this lens. The back ground blur is so pretty with this lens. It hasn't left my camera since I purchased it 2 weeks ago. no IS, but i dont find it's an issue with handheld photo's. however you will need to stablize the lens when doing actual macro photography

Just got this lense and only used it once to check it out. Seems like a good lense but won't really know for a while after I use it more.

The images are SO sharp, easy to focus on objects closer to you than with a 100... sometimes working in a small space in a wedding dressing room or with details at a reception - this lens is amazing!

Pleasantly surprised at how easy this lens is use and get tack sharp images from. I've used on landscape, animals, food and close ups of inanimate objects. Great image quality, auto focus works as expected, no learning curve for me (which is unusual - LOL. Got a refurbished unit during the Halloween sale - was a great deal, glad I bought it. Very impressed.

This is a very good lands however I am not overly impressed by it. The reason being is there is not enough glass in this lens as it is only a 2.8 in aperture. I realize for most macro pictures it is fine but it will be a much more versatile lands if you could go larger in the aperture. But in this price range I would not expect too much more and I am still very pleased with the lands.

This lens takes incredible pictures. Still learning photography and this lens no the great photos it takes affirms my choice in cameras! Beautifully sharp, clean and clear photos taken in my garden are among the best photos I've ever taken. I love the fact that it's a prime lens and on autofocus, great photos are achievable for anyone. As for Adorama's customer service: As a newbie, I ordered the wrong lens. I called Adorama and a helpful man found the one I should have ordered and sent it right out. The return of the incorrect lens was smooth and painless. Best customer service ever!

The shipping box contained the lens in its box and a small piece of bubble wrap, which was not wrapped around the lens box, but to one side , and the lens box was rattling around the shipping box when I picked it up. It doesn't seem to have any damage, but I was really disappointed in the lack of protection this lens received in its route from Adorama to me.

I love this lens! It quickly became a favorite of mine, as I love being able to shoot macro, while having the capacity to create portraiture. It is a great multi - purpose lens, that I boast about often.

Amazing lens!
By Richard8971
My wife and I own 2. We have been using them for about 6 months and it is quickly becoming our favorite lens to use. For an EF-S lens, this thing is amazingly sharp. I have used it on my XTi, T1i and 40D and it makes use of each and every pixel your camera can squeeze out! I shoot mainly wildlife but macro photography is quickly replacing that. I would have to say it is near "L" quality, if not "L" class quality. Truly a hidden gem in the Canon lens lineup. If you get this lens you will not ...

I'm 83 & not able to hunt with a rifle anymore, therefore I hunt insects & flowers close to home. This little lens on my Canon T3i meets ALL my needs, & takes a great portrait picture too! If your in the market for a true macro lens give this 1 a try. I guarantee you won't regret it.
A thoroughly modern design that's optimized for select Canon EOS digital SLRs. Its angle of view is equivalent to a 96mm lens on a 35mm camera, with a floating optical system that can focus down to full life-size (1:1) magnification.
Inner focusing, driven by a silent and powerful ring-type USM, means the lens' overall length never changes during focus.
This lens is a wonderful multi-purpose lens that's equally at home shooting macro shots, portraits or available-light photos. Like all Canon EF-S Lenses, its use is restricted to the EOS 20D, EOS Digital Rebel, EOS Digital Rebel XT and similar cameras.
Up close
With its ability to focus life-size images onto the image sensor, the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM offers true macro performance in the EF-S lens series. Having an effective focal length of approximately 96mm in 35mm format, it produces breathtaking close-up results. A minimum focusing distance of just 20cm gets you super close to your subject, filling the frame with the subject in the highest detail you require.
A world in miniature
The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM works in harmony with EF-S mount EOS cameras to let you explore an exciting new photographic dimension. Nature photographers will delight in the ability to capture the intricate beauty of tiny features. With capacity to reproduce an image on the sensor as large as the subject itself, you will take your audience on a journey inside a magnificent miniature world.
Background blur
Portrait photographers will enjoy working with the large aperture, which narrows depth of field and creates beautiful background blur, making your subject stand out with dramatic effect.
Travelling light
The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM adds enormous versatility to your kit while adding little weight. Its near-silent Ultra Sonic Motor provides super-fast precision auto-focusing with full-time manual override.
Resolution and quality
Over 60 years of optical engineering has gone into producing a lens that delivers exacting picture quality standards. Canon lens technologies combine to produce high corner-to-corner resolution, brightness, contrast and balanced color reproduction throughout all focusing distances.
Built for digital
Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements with Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off the camera sensor. An exclusive optional lens hood further reduces the risk of flare.
