I shoot with a Canon 5D mark3. I use two other L lenses and I have never had problems with them communicating with the camera. The open box 85 1.2 keeps giving me error messages. I think I will need to return it for an exchange. When it is not acting up, the photos are the sharpest I have ever seen. What you read from others is correct...you can't beat the quality of the lens in that regard. I have only used it for family photos and individual senior photos. It is slow to focus as others have written, but not a deal breaker when it comes to seniors and families. Worth the money, despite the error message. I'm not giving up on this lens yet.

I upgraded from the USM to the 85 mm L series. The glass quality is definitely superior and performs great in low light conditions. Good for wedding photography and artistic portraits.

I absolutely love this lens. Pic quality coming from this boy is beyond description. One can only feel that when they take images from it. I use it with my 5dm4 and the combo is awesome. I have got some amazing pics shooting with live view on and just taping on the screen to take a pic option on. Some say this lens focuses slow, I had no troubles in good light. But yeah when it's dark it does takes its time but when it does focus pics are absolutely sharp.

If you shoot portrait photos, this lens is a MUST!. People say this lens is slow to focus, but that only applies from min to infinity which you do not use for its purpose. Within normal range, it focuses quick and accurate. I had a 85mm f/1.8, but the focus was not that accurate despite its speed to focus. This lens is highly recommended if you can afford!! Enjoy shooting!

Needless to say, what an awesome lens. I'm not commenting on the quality of this lens because we all know how awesomely good it is. But i'd like to comment on the "Open Box" version that i ordered and received just last week, 15min before a Swimwear photo shot i had scheduled (photos turned out amazing). The "Open Box" version i received was BRAND NEW. It arrived in it's original Canon Box, sealed and with all the new packaging inside. The only thing that i noticed is a very slight dent on the corner of the Canon Box. Now if that is what Canon or Adorama considers an "Open Box" version, then i will order these versions from now on, because the lens and the Canon Box where, as far as i can tell, ALL BRAND NEW. I highly recommend these versions!

This is by far the best lens I've owned and well worth the money. I expected it to be much slower; however, I am more than pleased with this lens.

It is now one of my favorite lenses. Everything they say about it is true. Yes, it's big but so what. It's easy to handle. The booked is as good as my Summilux. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to someone who wants a super fast lens. the colors are wonderful.

Purchased this lens as an open box and received it in excellent condition. I couldn't even tell that it was an open boxed item. I would definitely recommend!

I received the lens. It's in good condition except a few bubbles on the front lens element. However, it doesn't affect the picture quality. I took couple hundred shots and didn't see the bubble affect the pictures

Just got this lens last week. The same day I received it I had a photo shoot. Thinking I was going out there and nailing all my images like I do with the rest of my lenses, but I didn't. The images I did nail were fantastic. This lens is a monster, it's very heavy and feels like an L lens should. My only gripe besides weighing a ton is the slow focusing. I was warned about the slow focus and trying to get all the images sharp, but I still bought it. The advice I got was that to use this lens takes practice and that's what I will do.

Great Lens

Retaining the impressive optical performance and large aperture of the original EF 85mm f/1.2L USM, this new medium telephoto lens uses a Ring-type USM, high-speed CPU and optimized algorithms to achieve an autofocus speed approximately 1.8x faster than the original. The high-speed AF and circular aperture create a shallow depth-of-field that brings attention to the subject and blurs the background, which is ideal for portraits and weddings. The floating optical system, which includes an aspherical lens element, suppresses aberrations and ensures excellent imaging performance
