Questions & Answers

Roy L : Can I use this flash with a Sony SLT a37? ThanksBARBARA A : I am using the Speedlite with a Canon EOS Rebel T3i and have used it on a Rebel XTi. The manual does not say whether the Speedlite 90 is compatible with cameras from other manufacturers, only that it can be used with E-TTL II or E-TTL autoflash EOS cameras. I would doubt that it is compatible with a Sony.KLAUS T : I don't know. I'm using it with my Canon only.ANDREW R : Unfortunately no, this flash unit is not Sony compatible.
Shopper : is this flash compatible with 5D Mark II?JAMES B : Yes it is. It can be used as a Master flash over two other Slave flashes using the Flash Menu in 5D Mark II.Gordon L : The flash is compatible with the MKII and MKIII, I am using it with the MK III and love it. It's my flash for taking candid pictures at get togethers. I use it combination with the 40mm pancake lens and it's makes for a small camera.JUNOJAY F : Yes. Here's an excerpt from Canon's website: "Standard Canon EOS hot shoe mount for compatibility with all EOS SLRs: With a standard quick-release mounting foot, the Speedlite 90EX is not only the EOS M Digital Camera's perfect companion, it's also compatible with SLRs in the EOS system. In addition, the Speedlite 90EX is compatible with Canon's camera shoe cord OC-E3 for simple, off camera shooting."

Excellent Wireless Remote Trigger Master Alternative

Beside being a portable flash for my Canon EOS M and 6D, it is also a excellent alternative remote trigger master unit for my rebel T5 (which does not feature the wireless flash trigger when pair with my 320EX and 270 EX II.

Perfect for fill

I got this for my 5Dmk 4 as it does not have a popup. I often need just a little fill outdoors. It is also great for informal shots where most people use a pop up.

Nice little flash light

I bought it to carry around with my 6D as it does not come with a built in flash. this flash works fine for close range. However, this take a loooong time to recharge for the next shot (aprox 6 seconds. if you do not take photos in rapid succession this will work fine as a fill light for shadows in close range or catch light.

Full Satisfaction

After I finally received my Canon Speedlite 90EX I was a bit surprised about the size. But after I tried in out on my PowerShot SX-50 it worked fine with no problems as I read on some comments on the Internet. I took one shot in a darkened room and the photo came out looking like day light. I am completely satisfied with the 90EX as I have always been with my past Canon Cameras.

Nice little flash.

Only have done some test shots with the flash and appears to do the job.

Very portable, but not articulated

Really like the portability, the output seems good, control is nice. Only negative is you can't aim it. This would also be a great little flash on your main DSLR, since it can act as a controller for other Canon flashes.

base level flash

good flash, small in size, which makes it really portable. if you have a camera that doesn't have a build-in flash (like 5d), this is a good substitute to build-in flash. It is on a slow side, just like build-in flash sometimes, where if you take a shot, you have to wait for several seconds before you can take another shot (if you don't wait, you can still take the shot, but flash wouldn't fire). the range of the flash is comarable to a build-in flash range. bottom line: if you need a good flash, you should go for more high-end versions, but if you need a portable flash that you would use on occasion, and you don't have a build-in flash, this is a good buy.

Necessary Item

I ended up buying this flash after buying the EOS M. The "M" doesn't have a flash and there are many situations where you need one. The 90E was made for the "M" and really should have some with it. I bought it based on the size, but Canon sells other more powerful flashes for less money reducing the value of this flash. Functionally it does the job and plays nicely with other flashes.

Ideal for use with EOS M Camera, the compact and lightweight Canon Speedlite 90EX Flash is designed for the photographer on the go. The Speedlite 90EX is capable of coverage for 24mm wide angle lenses (35mm equivalent) with maximum guide numbers of 30 feet (9 meters) at ISO 100. The flash unit can be controlled wirelessly for creative multiple flash shoots and uses the standard Canon EOS hot shoe mount for compatibility with all EOS DSLR cameras and PowerShot digital cameras that include a hot shoe.
