C-100 ?the underdog?

The C-100 is a great product. Even after years since it?s release, the camera still produces beautiful footage that?s workable in post. I mostly use mirrorless cameras for work but the C-100 is my go to when I want to get a little more cinematic with the look.

Workhorse Camera

I bough this in 2019 after having used one at work for 4 years. Why buy a HD camera with a mediocre codec when 4k is common these days? Simple - very reliable and great HD image quality. Built-in HD filters, good XLR audio and cooling fan is HUGE advantage over mirrorless or DSLR shooting. Excellent battery life, good layout of controls, small file sizes that still grade well even in 4.2.0 8 bit. I'll take reliability and good image quality over the latest camera all the time. This camera may be showing it's age, but still a lot to like about it.

Great features and user-friendly functions, BUT

I have been using the Canon C100 Mark II for a while (6 months) and have managed to get some great footage. However, I am disappointed with the Face Tracking not finding my Canon 35 mm (1:1,4) and 70 - 200 mm (1:2,8) lenses "not compatible". It also will not allow me to access the Slow Motion option in the menu, using these high-end lenses!

Don't know why I would ever shoot on a DSLR again

If you are not ready to jump to 4k yet, the C100 Mark II is your best choice. The joy of using this camera is unmatched. A great camera for anyone transitioning from a DSLR.

Good Camera

Had this camera for about 2 years. I trust it and it has never let me down. Picture quality is great and low light is great too. I like the way the camera looks and all the buttons you can use insted of going into the menu to find what your looking for. Very intuitive to use. A few things I would say, is the uncompressed HDMI output OTHER THEN 60P is interlaced and that makes it hard to work with. (who uses interlaced footage this day and age?). Also this camera has auto focus and it works not as good as I thought it would. It hunts and the thing in focus is NEVER really in focus, and I have to manual do it. Defeats the purpose of AF. Using Canon EF-S 18-135mm IS STM lens.

Everything you want and more

I started the process of finding a workhorse for my business by working with the Blackmagic 4K PC, I ultimately ended up sending it back. You NEED lights and I mean lots of light. I decided to try this off a recommendation from Film Riot, and I couldn't be happier with every aspect of this camera. It's so worth the price and the learning curve is small.

C100 M II outstanding

Switched from Sony FS100. Love the image quality, and C-Log. Found it very easy to use in run and gun, and weddings. Last weekend shot a dance event in low light conditions, came out stunning.

Professional 1080p Camera

This camera resolves 1080 beautifully, and is a very solid performer, however I wish to go straight to a feature that should be improved: The only progressive output available in 1080 via the HDMI port is 60p. When set to 29.97 or 23.98. the HDMI signal is interlaced: 59.94i - and this has reduced the usability of this excellent camera. The HDMI output is critical for professional use, because the internal recording format is highly compressed. The only other aspect of this camera that is critical and unusual is the White Balance, (WB). If you select A or B and activate the WB while pointing at a white balance card, it properly sets the correct Kelvin, but if you choose Kelvin and manually dial the temperature to that very same temperature, it isn't the same result. Meaning, I can use the WB setting in preset A to activate a white balance and everything looks perfect. Let's say that the temperature is 3400 Kelvin. I can then change the preset to Kelvin and dial the temperature to 3400 manually but the result is not the same. This issue makes it necessary to use a white card for each camera on a multi camera shoot versus being able to simply match Kelvin temperature to the same identical value.

Outstanding HD Video Camera

A pleasure to operate. I love using the new viewfinder and 3.5" OLED monitor. The ergonomics are excellent; very lightweight considering how much it offers. Unusually beautiful 1080p image thanks to the in-camera 4K sampling. Great lowlight performance. The batteries last forever and the SD media is very affordable. Combines many of the best elements of a Canon DSLR and a traditional video camera. I wish there was a Canon zoom control for this type of camera/lens system, but insofar as camera limitations go, I'm willing to sacrifice that for the interchangeable lens option. Plus I hear Zacuto has a zoom control solution coming out fairly soon. All-in-all, this might be the most pleasurable professional camera I've ever owned.

Truly Awesome Camera

I own the C300 and the C100 Mark 1 and this new camera is my favorite. The image is spectacular, with some very nice upgrades over the early Cinema EOS cameras. Highly recommend this camera.

Everything you want and more

By Fred B.

The Canon EOS C100 Mark II Wedding/Documentary Kit features the Canon EOS C100 Mark II Cinema Camcorder, Sennheiser AVX-ME2 Camera Mountable Lavalier Wireless Set and DJI Ronin-M 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer.

Canon EOS C100 Mark II

The Canon EOS C100 Mark II Cinema Camcorder is a professional video camera with a Super 35mm 8.3MP CMOS sensor and is compatible with Canon's line of EF-mount DSLR and cinema lenses. With continuous autofocus and 1080p HD video capture, it is an excellent choice for event videography, documentaries, and independent filmmakers. The camera uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF for fast and reliable focus acquisition. Key upgrades over the original model include Face Detection AF, MP4 recording, more frame rates when shooting AVCHD, slow/fast motion, and an additional built-in microphone. The EVF has been doubled in size, and the 3.5-inch OLED display's resolution has been increased. Canon Log LUT timecode is now supported.

What you should know about the Canon EOS C100 Mark II:
• Super ISO range: You can shoot in near-darkness thanks to the C100 Mark II's wide ISO range of 320-102,400. Such a high sensitivity means less reliance on big lights and large crews. The Digic DV4 image processor achieves a high signal-noise ratio, for improved dynamic range and less noise at high speeds.
• Autofocus upgrades: The C100 Mark II is compatible Canon autofocus DSLR lenses and has a Continuous AF function using Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. Each pixel has two separate photodiodes; software continuously compares each photodiode's output during AF mode for smooth focus transitions when talent or camera moves. This feature works with Canon's EF and newer STM lenses for smooth, quiet operation.
• Easy navigation: The revised menu system can be navigated via camera buttons as an alternative to the removable joystick, so you can use menus when the side grip has been removed. You can also select one of 25 locations to magnify the image to easily check focus.
• Super 35mm Sensor: Users can get the look of 35mm film thanks to the 8.3MP Super 35mm CMOS sensor. Its wider pixel pitch improves noise in low light, while the angle of view and depth of field will be more film-like.
• Wide dynamic range: Thanks to Canon Log Gamma, the C100 Mark II boasts 12 stops of dynamic range by suppressing brightness while maintaining gradations. Color grading in post production is not necessary.
• Many resolutions and frame rates: You can record AVCHD bit rates up to 24 Mbps, with resolution up to 1920x1080. Frame rates range from FP24 to 59.94p, as well as MP4 recording. Long takes are supported via relay recording between dual SD cards. The camera can also write video to both cards for redundancy. Uncompressed HDMI output is available with Timecode and Canon Log LUT options.
• Small and ergonomic: The Canon C100 Mark II is smaller, designed for the solo shooter, but can be decked out with a range of camera-mounted accessories. A removable hand grip rotates 360 degrees for comfortable shooting. Hardware buttons can be customized to the user's needs.
• Manual control: Users have full manual exposure and focus controls. Aids include focus peaking and Magnify Focus. Green and red waveforms give focus feedback on the LCD monitor.

Sennheiser AVX-ME2 Camera Mountable Lavalier Wireless Set

• Ultra compact receiver
• Switches on/off by P48 Phantom power
• Optimized dynamic range

DJI Ronin-M 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer

Free Yourself. Capture The World
Compact, lightweight and remarkably easy to use, the Ronin-M gives you what every filmmaker dreams of - freedom.

Incredibly Compact. Unbelievably Light
Weighing just 5 pounds (2.3kg), about half the weight of the original Ronin, the slimmed down Ronin-M is small enough to fit into your backpack and take anywhere, yet strong enough to support camera setups weighing up to 8 pounds (3.6kg).

Fast Setup, Precise Balancing
Save time and start shooting professionally stabilized video in under 5 minutes. Mount your camera to the Ronin-M, quickly balance it and then tap a button. The upgraded ATS (Auto Tune Stability) technology is more precise than before and completes the tuning and balancing processes with no tools necessary. Easy and efficient.

Simple Disassembly For Unmatched Flexibility
Capture tight shots, even when you have almost no space to work and easily transport your Ronin-M. The top handle bars quickly and easily twist off, allowing you to minimize its size, achieve different shooting configurations and pack or unpack it in seconds.

New Magnesium Frame
Your Ronin-M stands up to rugged use in any filming environment. Featuring a superbly strong and rigid magnesium frame, the Ronin-M brings increased stiffness and reduced weight. Notoriously difficult to manufacture and mold, magnesium brings you a new, more exact shooting experience while maintaining easy maneuverability and increasing options on set.

Solid Support Arm
Increased rigidity is provided by a single, complete piece of fine-tooled magnesium that forms the U-shaped arm holding the camera plate. Only made possible by DJI's large manufacturing reach and expertise, this unified design eliminates imperfections that are common in systems made of multiple pieces assembled together. This arm gives you not only greater stability but also reliability, as there is no potential for separate pieces to come loose or move apart.

Smoothtrack Control
Even with only one operator, SmoothTrack technology ensures the Ronin-M translates your movements into smooth camera angle changes. Your camera intuitively faces the direction you want, all while completely stabilized, no matter how you move. SmoothTrack settings from speed to deadband to acceleration are fully customizable and 'Single Axis Follow Mode' enables you to lock two axes while SmoothTrack guides your camera along only one axis of motion.

Endless Shooting Scenarios. One Flexible Solution
Capture shots that are impossible with any other setup. Switch effortlessly between the 3 modes of operation, without adjusting any settings or needing a 2nd operator remote.

Underslung Mode
Film effortlessly and comfortably in the most common shooting mode, holding the Ronin-M directly in front of you at chest level.

Upright Mode
Shoot at or above eye-level by flipping and lifting the lightweight Ronin-M above your head. This mode is perfect for shooting out of a car's sunroof or above a crowd of people.

Briefcase Mode
Filming in narrow spaces or moving through a doorway is effortless with Briefcase mode. Turn the gimbal vertically and hold it by your side close to your legs, just like a briefcase.

Long Battery Life
Film all day, until you get every shot, with the Ronin-M's smart battery and a runtime of over 6 hours. Overcharge and over depletion protection is built in, as is individual cell charge balancing. Remaining power is shown by clear LEDs and in the Assistant mobile app.

Powerful Motors. Precision Control
Designed with high performance in mind, the Ronin-M's brushless motors are incredibly precise and powerful while maintaining low vibration and increasing torque. Industry-leading accuracy is increased even further with Digital Absolute Positioning Encoders in each axis and a much larger range of controllable motion on both the tilt (105deg. Up, 165deg. Down) and roll (+/- 110deg.) axes.

Silent Mode
When shooting indoors or in tight spaces, a new Silent Mode reduces the sound of each motor to almost inaudible levels. The Ronin-M's stabilization algorithms are instantly changed to focus on strength for minute changes and stabilization, ensuring the sound of the motors is not recorded by sensitive microphones or other recording equipment.

Canon C100 Mark II Features

  • Canon Super 35mm CMOS Sensor: The EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera employs the same single Super 35mm Canon CMOS image sensor as the rest of the Cinema EOS camera family and includes the same innovative strategies that have established the outstanding image performance of these cameras.
  • Canon DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor: The four 1920 x 1080 HD R Gr Gb B video components from the image sensor are pre-processed and then sent to the DIGIC DV 4 processor for advanced video processing. This includes separate interpolation of the sparsely sampled R and BHD components to form full frame 4K for each.
  • Simultaneous AVCHD and MP4 Recording: The EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera enables users to record in both the AVCHD and the MP4 recording formats in a variety of bit rates (up to 28 Mbps and 35 Mbps, respectively), resolutions, and frame rates, including 59.94p, to address practically any production need
  • Slow and Fast Motion Recording: The EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera can provide slow and fast-motion video effects when recording in the MP4 format. Slow and fast-motion playback speeds can range from x0.4 slow up to x2.5 fast.
  • MP4 Conversion: This feature allows for converting an AVCHD or MP4 recording on the SD card in the EOS C100 Mark II camera's main slot into a 3 Mbps (640 x 360) MP4 file on the SD card in the alternate slot. This gives users a smaller file that is easier to transmit.
  • Redesigned 3.5-Inch OLED Panel: The 3.5-inch 1.23 megapixel OLED display on the EOS C100 Mark II delivers virtually 100 percent field of view coverage, wide and faithful color range support, and improved viewing even in bright sunshine. The EOS C100 Mark II camera's OLED screen has a new hinge design to help maximize monitoring versatility
  • 1.23 Megapixel Tilting Color EVF: Larger and totally redesigned from what was featured on its predecessor model, the EOS C100 Mark II camera's EVF (Electronic ViewFinder) uses a 0.45 inch 1.23 megapixel color panel surrounded by a large professional-style eyecup In addition, the new EVF has a 68 degree tilt angle, for more effective use
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF: A standard feature of the EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera, Dual Pixel CMOS AF (AutoFocus) ingeniously deploys the two photodiodes within each sensor Photosite to facilitate a powerful phase difference detection that provides measurement data that ultimately controls the EF Lens focusing system
  • Face AF Mode: Face AF mode detects and focuses on human faces. Both the Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Face AF capabilities give camera operators more freedom to concentrate on composing their shots and paying attention to potentially unpredictable shooting environments.
  • 59.94p Frame Rate: By popular demand, the EOS C100 Mark II HD Digital Camera can capture 1920 x 1080 HD video at a 59.94p frame rate (59.94p is available in MP4 mode at 35 Mbps and in AVCHD at 28 Mbps). This frame rate can provide captured video with a very "smooth" look that is useful for sports and news applications
  • Wireless FTP Video Transfer: MP4 and AVCHD video files (and still images) can be wirelessly transferred to a selected FTP server. This feature is particularly useful for transferring time-critical video for news and for backing-up files. The feature uses the 5GHzband for quick, reliable file transfers.
  • Built-In Microphone: A monaural "mono" microphone is built into the body of the EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera for the capture of reference audio, for spoken notes, or as an aid to synching sound in post. This microphone works only when the removable top handle with twin XLR inputs is not attached.
  • Built-In Canon Log LUT: Many filmmakers prefer to shoot in Canon Log to protect the integrity of the total dynamic range of which the image sensor is capable, which, in turn, can provide greater latitude in post-production grading processes.
  • Red Record Buttons: There are three start/stop record buttons on the EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera (one on the front of the camera, one on the removable pistol grip, and one on the detachable top handle) and all are red for bright visibility. Besides aiding with quick identification.
  • New Ergonomic Re-Design: The EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera features a compact design for comfortable use by a single operator. Subtle but important modifications for smoother operator comfort include indentations around control buttons and a recessed power switch.
  • Outstanding Low Light Sensitivity and Wide Dynamic Range: The combined performance of the camera's Canon Super 35mm CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor achieve a very high signal-to-noise ratio that enables recordings with great detail and dynamic range even in minimal light.
