About Canon C700

Canon EOS C700 Cinema Camera
Ideal for Major 4K Cinema, Television, and On-Demand Streaming Productions

Featuring a completely new, customizable, modular design, the EOS C700 meets the demands of today's productions from feature films to documentaries to episodic dramas. The EOS C700 PL camera features a Super 35mm 4.5K sensor with wide dynamic range, and can be ideal for productions requiring 4K UHD TV or 4K DCI cinema deliverables. In addition to supporting the earlier XF-AVC2 recording format, the cameras also support Apple ProRes.

Recognizing that customers today demand flexibility and the ability to respond to the changing needs of productions, the EOS C700 allows users to convert between EF mount and PL mounts, and between a standard CMOS image sensor and a global shutter CMOS image sensor at Canon service facilities. The EF lens mount provides compatibility with Canon's diverse lineup of over 70 interchangeable EF lenses as well as enabling use of Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. While the PL lens mount allow use of industry-standard PL lenses and compatibility with Cooke /i metadata communication technology.

For those wanting to shoot and deliver High Dynamic Range (HDR)4 content, the EOS C700 and EOS C700 PL are ideal - providing 15 stops of latitude, Canon s proprietary Log Gammas (Canon Log3, Canon Log2 and Canon Log) and renowned color science. Additionally, these cameras seamlessly integrate with Canon s professional 4K displays (DP-V2420, DP-V2410 or DP-V1770) for on-set color management and review that conforms to SMPTE ST 20846 standards of HDR display.

To complement these powerful new acquisition tools, Canon has turned to its trusted partner Codex to provide a fully-integrated (no cables) recording and workflow option. The combination of the EOS C700 camera with the optional Codex CDX-36150 recorder allows for high-speed 4.5K RAW recording at up to 100FPS, 4K RAW at up to 120FPS, 4K ProRes at up to 60FPS, 2K ProRes at up to 240FPS and XF-AVC at up to 60FPS.

Canon's new EOS C700, EOS C700 PL and EOS C700 GS PL are the first Cinema EOS cameras to support anamorphic shooting by utilizing a "de-squeeze" function for monitoring7, making possible the creation of images with the 2.39:1 aspect ratio typical of cinema productions. Furthermore, enabling Full HD high-frame-rate recording at a maximum of 240 fps (crop8), the camera enables smooth playback, even when slowed down, for great emotional visual expression.

Canon C700 Features

  • 4K 60P/50P: 4K image quality carries data that gives it four times the density and resolution of full HD. The C700 adds support for 60P/50P, enabling visual expression that was previously difficult to achieve in scenes with motion or moving subjects, offering clarity and sharpness without dropping frames.
  • High Frame Rate Support: 2K/120P 2K (CROP)/240P : One of our most requested features is support for high-speed shooting. The C700 allows detailed settings from 1fps to a maximum of 240fps (2K crop) to generate even greater emotion and excitement in visual expression.
  • Multi-format Recording with ProRes Internal Recording Support: This is the first Canon camera to support internal recording in the Apple ProRes intermediate codec, an essential feature that the television industry and other professionals demand from a production camera.
  • Codex Recorder CDX-36150 : Canon collaborated with Codex, the biggest name in the "A" camera market, to develop a dockable RAW recorder that fits on the C700. It uses Codex media, applications and workflow, and can output Canon Cinema RAW RMF files. It also supports 4K 120fps RAW,
  • HDR Support for On-set Monitoring: The C700 supports HDR recording with the SMPTE ST 2084 standard. It works exceptionally well with our specially-designed reference display, enabling on-set monitoring at the shooting location. The included EVF can be used with view assist for a view that's close to the ST 2084 standard.
  • Surrounding Area: The EVF/MONI OUT supports surrounding area video output. By giving the video periphery a translucent display on the OSD, it can be optimized for on-screen checking of video and video information.
  • Support for ACESproxy (ACES 1.0)* Wide Color Gamut: The C700 supports the latest version (1.0) of the ACESproxy, the ACES2 color management transmission standard advocated by AMPAS. Connect it to an input device that supports ACESproxy to deliver a standardized color space in images at the shooting and editing locations
  • Anamorphic Lens Support (De-squeezed output support): Anamorphic lenses enable one-of-a-kind visual expression and are supported on both the EF/PL mount and the RS/GS mount models.
  • EF Lens: The C700 works with EF Cinema Lenses, which combine excellent reliability and operability with the outstanding 4K-supporting optical performance that incorporates all of Canon's camera technologies, as well as the whole family of EF lenses for still photgraphy
  • CMOS Sensor: Canon's proprietary 4K Super 35mm CMOS sensor brings out all of the beauty of 4K video with our exclusive Dual Pixel CMOS AF.
  • DIGIC: The on-board Video Engine DIGIC DV has been developed by Canon to deliver amazing computational performance. It offers both image quality performance that elicits maximum beauty from 4K video and stress- free operability.
  • Reference Display: Canon's high-brightness, high-resolution displays support 4K RAW. They are available in 24-inch for on-set use and 30-inch for post-production editing, and enable the same looks throughout the workflow.
  • Support for Canon Log 3: As with Canon Log2 and Canon Log, Canon Log 3 is a gamma that anticipates a post-production finishing process. In comparison with Canon Log, it offers a wider dynamic range while retaining performance in darker regions and the 18% reference (1600% / 14-STOP equivalent), and achieves equal output in wide regions of Log space
  • Support for Dual Pixel CMOS AF: 4K shooting calls for focus accuracy so precise it can't be checked on an HD monitor. Dual Pixel CMOS AF expands the distance measuring area to significantly reduce focus problems in 4K shooting.
