It's a body cap, it protects the mirror and inside of your camera when no lens is attached. It works as designed.
I recommend to get one if you lose yours like I lost mine.

Good investment to keep the sensor clean
Keep an extra set of Lens and Body caps (connected to each other) in your camera bag. These are genuine canon parts that fit perfectly.
