Q&A

Questions & Answers

DAVID T : I read a review that says this does not include stands (how crazy is that). What kind of stands can be used and where do you get them? Why are the not shown on Adorama for this item under the "Accessories" tab?JOSE F : Anything that has a flash shoe mount will do. I use a Universal Light Stand Mount to Shoe Adapter.JOHN K : I would check Ebay and order low price light stands from China.ASHOK R : The foot has a standard 1/4" threaded socket at the bottom, just like the tripod mount on the bottom of a camera. They also are designed to fit into a hot shoe mount. I usually use a small light stand (may need an adapter if it has a larger thread) or the foot that came with my Speedlight. Note you'll need to get them positioned very accurately for them to work, but between these two attachment methods I've never had trouble aligning them.ARNEL G : Almost any light stand can be used for this. I used this Flashpoint 7.1' Air Cushioned Black Three-Section Lightstand. <a href="http://www.adorama.com/LTSP85.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/LTSP85.html</a>ROBERT T : The 'foot' of the units can mount to the flash shoe of a camera or a tripod (1/4-20 threaded socket). I have used both a small tripod and a 1/4-20 bolt through an electical box cover to mount my units when I have used them.Michael C : They are set up for standard flash shoe mounting. So any light stand with flash shoes would work or get flash shoes for tripod heads. Any type of flash shoe attachment should work.KATHERINE F : Any stand or tripod with a 1/4 -20 screw on top will work. Some stands have them and some need an adapter
NAIDA O : Will this work with a Canon Rebel SL1?SIERRA H : It should work with any Canon DSLR. You'll have to buy a separate cable to plug into your remote port to trigger the shutter though.PHOTOGRAPHER'S E : Yes.ROBERT T : Yes it will work. It might work without needing anything, the Cactus has a mini phone jack (1/8") output and the Rebel has the same for it's remote. The Cactus comes with a mini plug to mini plug cable that might work directly (although it's only a few inches long so wouldn't give you much room). Adorama does sell an adapter from Cactus for your camera (CACV5CC1). It's like 10" long. Not much better but longer than the 3-4 inch stock Cactus cable. If you know anything about electrical junk (or have a friend that does), you can make one for yourself a bit cheaper and any length you want. You just need to buy a mini stereo (1/8") jack and plug. Although the plug might be a different size, can't tell from the Canon info. They do make a size somewhat smaller, can't remember exactly. It's like 2mm or 2.5mm (1/8" = 3mm). The plug on the Canon might be the smaller metric size, if you don't know where it is check the instruction manual, or just look for a small hole that might have a cover, probably on the side or front. The trick to doing it yourself would be to get the trigger connection on the right terminal. The main 'body' of the plug will be ground and most likely the trigger is the tip, the middle contact might be to trigger the auto-focus and/or metering. I know the trigger on the Cactus is the tip. The 'body' is ground and that will be true for both the Cactus and the Canon (industry standard). When you have the riight size plug for the Canon you can figure out which contact makes the camera take a photo by just shorting the ground to the tip or middle contact. Once you figure that out wire the ground of the plug to the ground of the jack and the tip of the jack to the trigger contact on the plug.JOSE F : I don't have a Canon Rebel SL1. I own the 5d Mark II but I don't see why not. If you want to operate the unit wirelessly make sure you get the Canon shutter release cable.WARREN R : It should work just fine. The important thing to remember is that you may need to order an adapter cord to trigger your camera. Canon, Nikon, etc. cameras have unique plug in cords.LLOYD K : Yes, buy a trigger system and your good to go. I use Phottox.
Alex V : Will this work on my Sony Alpha A99? Do I need any additional cables or anything else?JUAN V : You will need a Shutter Release Cable that works with you camera make and model and to make things easy one or more of the cactus wireless flash transceivers V5ERIC M : Yes. It comes with a PC sync cable that allows you to plug it into your camera. I use it with radio transmitters (pocket wizard). Either method allows you to use this on most cameras.ANDREW R : For use with Sony Alpha series DSLRs you will also need the correct shutter cable (not included) which may be found here: <a href="http://www.adorama.com/CACV5SON.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/CACV5SON.html</a>

Great with some hitch

The Cactus LV% does what it's suppose to do.... and it works much better is you trigger the flash not the cam.... Only one thing... all the buttons are way to small and to hard to reach or activate ... excepted the power button witch is fine
