I originally bought a knock off hood on that big online retailer as I felt the Canon was too expensive for "a piece of plastic." I was so very wrong. The cheap ones don't have the felt liner inside, and as a result I had about half of my shots at a Blue Angels demo ruined from sun glare. I did get genuine Canon hoods for some of my other more frequently used lenses, and have never had glare issues like I did that day. Spend the extra money, and don't have wasted time & opportunity when it matters. Only 4 stars as the attachment doesn't seem as precise as some of the other hoods. I have gotten it skewed on more than one occasion.

Lens shades keep the flare bug at bay. Genuine Canon sunshades are the only way to go. They fit and are well constructed.

This lens hood is sturdy, easy to mount and a great value. I have used it 2 times so far and can definitely see an improvement in my pictures with the sun.

Tried to sneak by on the cheap and buy the non-Canon version - mistake. It really did rattle in the wind. This one is secure - maybe even a bit stiff still after only a month, but I don't keep checking it to make sure it won't fall off. Bite the bullet and spend the bucks here, and cry only once.

This hood is huge, and when I whip it out of the bag attached to my 300mm lens the ladies go wow! It blocks the direct sun rays as intended and its lined with felt inside. Very happy with it.

This lens hood allows me to take better pictures by keeping the sun off my lens. I use it when I take pictures of nature. It's a little bigger than I expected.

I use a hood whenever I have need to control lens flare. This lens hood does that well. The downside is the price. The lens hood should be included with the lens Canon! That's not a knock on Adorama by any means; I appreciate them having them in stock!

Works as advertised. Blocks out flare. Protects the front lens element. Never had a problem with it. it is big but that is to be expected. Bought it for 70-300 IS USM. I always keep it on there when shooting and reverse the hood for storage. Can get a little annoying if you reverse the lens hood for storage because the front element rotates so be sure to switch your lens from AF to MF when taking the hood on and off because I don't believe the 70-300 IS USM includes full time manual and turning the front element with the lens on AF mode could damage the AF system. other than that it works great.

I purchased this for my 70-300mm lens. It has a slight felt like coating on the inside. Works well, however, I can not adjust the polarizer too easily. I also purchased a LensCoat neoprene lens hood cover to protect it when stomping through the forests.

Works as described but costs a lot for a piece of plastic with velvet lining the inside

When you need a hood there are few good substitutes which allow you concentrate on the shot. The hood also offers some lens protection from rain, snow, and brush when you might be in the woods or hiking.

Works well is easy to use but expensive for a peice of plastic. As previously stated by others, it would be nice if canon would include a hood with their lenses like most other manufacturs.

[...] Although not an "L" lens, it's still well worth protecting and Canon's lens hood fits like a glove.
