Questions & Answers

Terry T : will this lens work with the EOS Rebel XT?JOSEPH B : Not familiar with this model camera but it should. If you notice on the rim of the item there is a white square and a red dot. That tells me it can be used on a full frame or a crop sensor camera. If you look at the write up for this lens on the Adorama web site it would tell you that information.SAN Y : It would work with any current EOS camerasBRIAN B : I have a Reble 2 and this only works with manual focus. The auto focus contacts don't seem to wor correctly.
Shopper : I have a Canon EOS 1100D. Will the camera's exposure metering system work with the Canon 12mm Extension tube?RICK D : Absolutely - the extension tube has electrical connectors so that the lens and body can "talk" to each other and the metering system will work perfectly.
DEBORAH W : What extension tube would you recommend for a canon 100 L Macro for bird photography?DAVID L : I have both these items. I am certain they wont fit togetherDAVID M : First I have no idea of what camera you plan to use it on. Is the lens 100 mm? If so and you use a C size sensor then you have a full frame equivalent of about 170 mm. I don't know how far out you want to be but a 100 mm is really short for bird photos. I would think you would be better off with a zoom to at least 300 mm and then add a 1.4 tube to it. When you go to doublers, you pay a really high price and often your lens will not allow auto focus. Spend the money on a longer lens first!CALVIN W : Any extension tube will reduce the far end of the focusing range so on a 100mm lens you may be limited (I'm guessing) to 15 ft maximum. The longer the extension tube you use the closer you can focus but you lose more of the ability to focus at a distance. You may be thinking about a teleconverter which retains the ability to focus at infinity while enlarging the center of your image. Way more expensive but includes quality optical components inside; extension tubes have no optical elements.Joel P : I'm not sure what kind of bird photography you specialize in. Macro for birds seems like it would be quite difficult. Both the 12 & 25 work well with my canon 100mm macro IS. They allow subject to front element to be in much closer proximity. I usually use the 12. Note that my subjects don't move!!

High quality

The Canon extension tubes are higher quality than other brands, and are much smoother mounting and unmounting. I strongly recommend them.

Works for what I needed.

Pretty simple, well built, electrical contacts work perfectly. I got this to shorten the min focus distance on an EF 500 f4l for songbird photography. Works well.

EF12 II extension tube

Excellent quality. Enough to justify the price being much higher than the imported clones? I think so. The fit and finish are great, and I'm glad I spent a little more for Canon quality.

Nice addition to the camera bag.

This extension tube allows for very nice macro shots without spending money on an additional macro lens. So far the shots taken have been very good.

Very nice

Very nice, well-made piece of equipment that does what it's supposed to do very well. Indispensable for really close, sharp flower shots. Highly recommended.

Short Extension

I bought this short extension tube along with the 25 mm extension tube for use with my 100 mm macro lens for close up and macrophotography. Although there are other extension tubes in the market, I preferred this made by Canon, because I know it to be a precision device designed to be a perfect match to my Canon equipment. I have used it, and it has performed exactly as I expected.

Great product

Does a great job of getting you in close for macro focusing. No additional optics to mess with your image, just an air gap behind your lens. Can be used with most every EF lens so it's a lot more versotile than a single macro lens costing HUNDREDS! You'll like it.

Great Product

Great for inexpensively adding macro capability to pretty much any EF lens. There are no additional lenses in the unit to affect your image, just creates an air gap between your lens and the body. Simple as it gets.

Works exactly as described!

I use this tube with my EF 100mm L series macro lens for... you guessed it - macro photography! Works exactly as expected. Build quality is of the typical high quality that comes with the Canon name (hence why I chose it vs. Kenko).

Hey it worked well (for the bux)

Canon quality, passes the electronic controls through to the lens. I am happy. Yes, I would love a 100mm USM Macro, but for the time being this works well enough for my tasks (which is photography of small electronic components).

It works as advertised

I guess I didn't realize that the Auto-Focus would not work with this extension tube. It only means that you have to move the camera to focus. Since things are very close by definition that isn't a serious problem, only a surprise.

Simple solution

I got this so I wouldn't have to carry a macro lens when I go to places like the zoo. It saves on weight and I can easily slip it in my pocket. I got both the EF 25 and the EF 12, the EF 25 for the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II, and the EF 12 for the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L. I found that these work great for aquarium shots. As good as a macro lens? No but it works great for close- up shots.

A must have

The tube does exactly what it is supposed to. the 12 mm works best with my 50 f/1.8 longer zooms will be better with a 25mm tube. The tube also works well with my 15-30 but only at the 30 end; I can focus on objects within 2" of the front element. All in all pretty useful if you want to try macro work without buying a macro lens.

Less expensive than a macro!

A good unit that does what it's supposed to. It doesn't get as close in as the EF 25 II, but if you get both units, you get fairly good close up shot variety for less than the cost of a decent macro lens

Meh....

I bought this for my wife without really understanding what it does. This is for EXTREME closeup photos. Having seen what it is and what it does, I wish I had bought either a generic extension, or a different piece of equipment all together. The quality and performance are great...but it was [$].

A simple piece, pricey, a macro must

I like the durability. It does the trick of turning my zoom into macro. I can't wait until this spring so I can take all of the flower and butterfly shots that I love.

EF12 II extension tube

By DAVID D.

Excellent quality. Enough to justify the price being much higher than the imported clones? I think so. The fit and finish are great, and I'm glad I spent a little more for Canon quality.

While maintaining the same 12mm and 25mm lengths as their predecessors, the Canon Auto Focus Extension Tube EF 12 II has been innovatively redesigned to accommodate EF-S mount lenses and their extended rear elements. This extension tube is perfectly compatible with all previous EF and TS-E lenses, making it a versatile addition to your photography equipment.

Designed for both film and digital SLR cameras, the EF 12 II is an ideal tool for close-up and macro photography, enabling you to capture the intricate details of subjects like butterflies and moths with precision. The auto-focus feature of this extension tube ensures sharp, clear images, even of quick-moving subjects, enhancing your photography experience.

The EF 12 II is also known for its seamless coupling with the lens and camera body, ensuring smooth mounting and dismounting. Its excellent functionality within its designed range sets it apart from other market items. This extension tube not only enhances the capabilities of a dedicated macro lens but also fills the frame at distances of ten to fifteen feet when combined with an image-stabilized 75 - 300 mm telephoto lens and the Canon XSi.

Please note that exposure compensation may often be required with cameras other than the EOS-1 Series. The Canon Auto Focus Extension Tube EF 12 II is a testament to Canon's commitment to providing high-quality, reliable lenses and accessories for photographers of all levels.
