Questions & Answers

Shopper : Is this compatible with a canon rebel lense 18-200?RAY R : It might fit, because both lenses use 72mm filters - but that doesn't mean the external threads will match. If it does fit, it might interfere with your images when you go wider than 28mm.IRA B : Please check the Canon USA website. In the Support area for your specific camera, look up your exact lens type/model (which was not provided by the submitter), examine the accessories available for the lens and then you will know if it works or not. Which Rebel model? EF or EF-S lens?
Shopper : is this a 72mm lens hood for the Canon 18-135 IS lens?DIANE M : Check the MM size on your lens. I bought this for the Canon70-200 2.8 lens. You have to really snap it on tight because if did you you don't, the stupid thing keeps coming off. I am rethinking this purchase.IRA B : Yes...it is the correct hood for that lens.JAMES N : No. this is design for the 28-135mm is lens.you will need Canon EW-73B.MICHAEL B : This is a 72mm lens hood. However it is made specifically for the Canon 28-135 IS lens. I have a 67mm model EW-73B on my 17-85 IS lens. I measured the two lens hoods and the EW-78B-II is deeper (ie it sticks out further in front of the lens). Therefore, i would think that it would likely cause some edge vignetting if used on the wider-angle 18-135 IS lens.TERRI B : It will fit any Canon 72mm lens.
Josr G : Would this work on my 5d mark 11 without getting the vignette corners?CYNTHIA D : I don't think that camera body matters. It would think it would depend on which angle the light is coming from. Remember that this hood needs to be rotated 90 degrees when shooting vertical.PAUL L : I do not know a lot about that camera I use a Rebel Xti and if the configuration is simular then it should be fine.MICHAEL B : The EW-78B-II lens hood is designed for the EF 28-135 IS lens used on a camera with a APS-C size CMOS senor -- such as the EOS 50D or the Digital Rebel models. These sensors have a multiplication factor of 1.6x which gives a slightly longer equivalent focal length and therefore a slightly narrower angle of view. The EOS 5D Mark II uses a full-frame size CMOS sensor so there is no multiplication factor on lenses with this camera. Therefore this lens hood might vignette corners if used with this lens on the 5D Mark II camera.YAKOV K : It should. I love this hood !!! I have no problems with it.TERRI B : The only time I've encountered that problem is when an external flash is used with the hood. In natural light, no, I haven't encountered vignette corners.

Canon Lens Hood Works

I bought the lens hood because I broke mine. I was worried that it wouldn't fit my Canon lens, but by getting the one to match the focal range and lens opening, it matched perfectly. You should always use a hood outdoors to prevent sunlight from hitting the lens and washing out the picture you want to take.

So-so product

I am disappointed with Canon. The hood is hard to install on to the lens. It is very tight fitting, almost as if it is out of alignment. I have the exact same lens and hood for my wife's camera and no problem with attaching the hood. Must be a freak thing with my hood, maybe Quality Control was asleep that day.. Don't get me wrong - it fits and won't fall off. To me though it doesn't measure up to Canon standards.

Good product

I use it about 60% of the time. Does what it is supposed to do. Fits better than the generic hood I was using.

Well designed but expensive

Too bad Canon doesn't supply hoods with all their lenses. The hood is very well designed. It is rather expensive (Canon's fault, not Adorama's) for a plastic hood. Protects the front element and prevents loss of contrast from stray light.

Good hood

While this hood is just plastic as others have noted, it is a thoughtfully designed plastic hood. It feels like a quality "engineering" plastic, has a felt lining, twist locks to the lens securely with only a quarter turn and has locator symbols to quickly line up the hood for use or storage. All nice touches that justify the price...well almost anyway. It is a petal design which is good but, of course, it is also designed to work correctly with a full frame sensor. So far it seems to provide good results even with a APS-C sensor (1.6 crop). My only complaint is that I feel every lens should ship with a lens hood. Buying a separate hood should be a replacement issue not a basic functionality issue. Shooting without a lens hood is rarely a good idea outdoors so making the hood an "option" is like saying that outdoor photography is an option. Top-tier lenses come with hoods so I guess the thinking is: cheap glass is only for people that don't care about lens flare.

Awesome product

I bought this one, to replace the one I dropped in the lake.. ooops. It`s a good lens hood.. very functional, and easy to use. But it is a bit large, when it comes to putting it into my camera bag. That`s the only real issue I have with it, and I can certainly live with that. I do also like the way it mounts to the lens, on the outside of the filter threads, so a filter can still be attached.

I lost my first one, so I was shooting without one for a while. So I know this hood does a nice job keeping stray light at bay. It's well made and I like the felt lined interior.

Essential Photographic Equipment

A proper lens hood is an actual extension of the manufactures original quality design. The lens hood blocks off axis light from entering the the camera. The "Petal Shape" of many lens hoods is a specific design feature for preventing vignetting on wider angle lenses while offering maximum protection from off axis light. In traveling a camera usually gets banged about no matter how careful you might be and the lens hood absorbs most of the shock and protects the actual front lens element ...

One of the most important accessories for each lens you own. A lens hood provides multiple functions: it shades the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality; in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles. Almost all EF and TS-E lenses have a Canon lens hood engineered specifically for it.
