A lens hood is an accessory?

I was somewhere between surprised and angry to discover my newest Canon lens did NOT come with a lens hood! I had to order it separately. It did arrive promptly after the order, and it is the same great quality that came INCLUDED with other recent lens purchases. (I really do like the "lock" feature on the newer hoods. I've been using Canon lenses for 50 years now. I bought the R camera and, when it came out, the 24-270 R lens for travel and hiking. It lives in my backpack, so I have it with me most of the time. So far so good :-) (But without the hood? You HAVE to be kidding!)
