Needed it for an old 10-20mm lens. It's big a bit cumbersome but a necessity for that lens.

I ordered this hood because I thought the lens I purchased on Ebay did not come with one, so it is redundant. I will have to sell it. It is a good stuff.

I bought this hood for my wide angle 10-22mm Canon lens. I own several hoods for my canon lenses and they are always canon hoods. This hood held up to my expectations. It feels solid and screws onto the end of the lens snugly. It stays secure and does not feel like it is going anywhere. It was abit wider than what I expected but it did a awesome job of reducing flare. I have shot pictures in the morning, indoors and even during midday and at all times it did a very good job at reducing flare. I would recommend this hood over a generic brand hood because you know when you buy Canon you are buying a quality product. It is made well and besides reducing flare it protects your lens from damage.

You can pay less for the knock-offs but you only get the Canon quality and extra features (felt lining) with this product.

Bought this cover for my newly purchased 10-22mm UW lens as protection from the elements. At first I thought the item was too bulky once it's snapped on the lens. But only because the lens flared out towards the end -- a necessary evil, if you ask me. The construction is great. I've read reviews about other brandname lens and how "cheap", as they put it, the build of the lenses are. The Canon lens cover is definitely not "cheap" in quality, but a great value for the price I paid.

This lens hood is designed to shade the front element of the lens from light when shooting in the general direction of the light source. It does that. It fits perfectly onto Canon lenses with its bayonet fitting; less than a 1/8 turn attaches it securely. As with any lens hood, it can make accessing a filter, such as a polarizer, more difficult but that's the nature of the beast. Fortunately it comes off and re-attaches very easily and will fit over most filters (i.e. those not oversized to prevent vignetting). It also protects the filter or lens from damage caused by accidentally bumping into hard objects.

This hood is handy to have around, but it can be troublesome. The wide profile means you'll probably be storing it separately in your bag. Plus, since it's for wide lenses, it's not going to be blocking that much light. But the protective aspect of hoods shines through here. I find myself using the wide lens in close quarters, and the hood provides a little buffer in case you knock into something - which is even more likely when looking through the disorienting lens.

My used 17-40mm did not come with one, but I grabbed this immediately. Personally, I prefer to use a hood instead of UV filters, because I can both protect the front element and cut some of the contrast-killing stray light. Plus, I must add, I personally really like the look of this particular hood...I could not say why.

Bought it used (E grade) from Adorama. Received the item with noticeable signs of use, but it does not effect the functionality. Canon hoods are superbly built, and offer the inner velvet lining that no imitation offers. This hood serves very well in protecting the lens from accidental hits by other objects. It allows one to carry the lens w/o the cap for extended time. It is BIG, however, and hard to store mounted on the lens while in my photo bag.

It's a pretty wide/bulky hood but it does what it needs to do which is protect the lens and reduce flare. Being a Canon product it's high quality and fits my 10-22mm perfectly and securely.

Inasmuch as the Lens hood has no moving parts, it does fit the lens well, mounts and unmounts easily, and reduces flare, which is basically what it is meant to do.

It was recommended when I am photographing various events in the sun I purchase a lens hood to eliminate unwanted glare. Of course I am careful when I attach the hood. Once in place it fits very nicely.

I think this is a good lens shade. I wish Canon included it with the purchase of the lens.

It's much bigger than I expected, but I guess it has to be large when used with the 10-22mm lens. The build quality is very nice. The plastic is fairly strong, and it has a nice velvet-type material coating on the inner surface to eliminate all reflections (notice how black the inside surface is in my attached photos).
