this canon lens hood EW-83J fits perfectly on my canon EF-S 17-55mm f 2.8 USM lens. It also fits in place backwards for easy storage. The quality is excellent

Better than any non-Canon lens hood.

This hood fits absolutely perfectly on the 17-55mm EF-S IS USM lens. It also attaches quite easily. The only downside is the high cost for a hood, but it is perfect.

In great shape, couple of slight scuff marks as described in the used department ratings. Fits perfectly on the Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8 lens. well packaged.

I purchased a used Canon lens from Adorama that had a generic hood included in the price. Unfortunately the hood arrived broken, but Adorama immediately replaced it with the Canon version of the hood. As always, Adorama was a pleasure to deal with and has great customer service. As far as the hood goes, there is a definite improvement in the build quality over the generic version. That said, I'm not sure if there is any difference in performance that would justify the hefty price of the name brand. Even so, it a great hood that fits snugly and stays on your lens.

Cheaper than Canon MSRP, but should have been included with the lens which is over $1000

Still hard to believe Canon doesn't include this with the lens. Quality very good, fits securely. Service and speed of delivery from Adorama excellent.

I don't have any others to compare but this goes on easily, fits tight. I like the feel of the little detent that lets me know it's on all the way. I use it all the time and would feel vulnerable without a hood on any lens

I bought a knock off of this lens hood. That is exactly what it did. It kept knocking off the lens. I spent more time picking it up off the ground than it spent on the lens. BUY GENUINE CANON. I purchased this lens hood and it has stayed on the lens and not fallen off once. You get what you pay for.

I have had a cheap no-name lens hood, and one was enough. I thought I was going to damage the lens while putting it on or taking it off, it was that tight. The ones made by Canon fit perfectly and are fairly tough.

This lens hood works as it should. But, for the price of the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 this should be included with the lens.

When I'm nearing the sun or shooting through glass it's on my lens.

It's expensive for a moulded piece of plastic with a felt lining, but the latter is the reason why I'd purchase this again over cheaper versions.

Wanted this hood since buying the EFS 17-55mm lens. It's my main walkabout lens, so the hood helps to reduce flare when taking those sunny, landscape/wildlife photos. Fits well, easy keyed mount, just a turn to don/doff. Strong build, not flimsy at all, and fits compact in my bag. This hood and a lens bag would be a great bundle with the lens.

Fits easily enough, but a lot of money for something that's not a huge step up from discount hoods.

It's all been said before, excellent little piece of plastic that's way over priced.

I discovered on another site it is also a perfect fit for 17-40 f4 L on small sensor bodies and I purchased for that reason. It's great since the hood included with the lens is too huge, designed for full frame use. High quality, 4 stars because it's overly expensive plastic.

It stores nicely on the lens and is always right there when I need it. Wish it had come with the lens.

Many positive things have been said, so I won't repeat: higher price + higher quality. I have not found the following comment online so far however. I've tried several hoods at Adorama NYC. Compared to other cheaper copy-cat hoods, this particular hood has a thin felt liner on the inside of the cylinder. This liner absorbs more light. The liner is difficult to notice in pictures. Copycats may not have the liner. Also, I could not "squeeze" this hood as easily as the copy-cat hoods, so it's more durable. Same size as copy-cats. Reversible; fits reversed in Lowepro Fastpack 100 with Xsi + hand/wrist grip.

Essential to pair with your Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Ultra Wide Zoom Lens. Accept no substitutes. Greatly reduces glare and flares in your photographs.

I finally broke down and bought the full-blooded Canon hood for my 17-55 2.8. Just as durable and functional as you'd expect (mounts and reverse-mounts easily, stores compactly, doesn't introduce significant vignetting, flocked interior), but for a higher price than seems fair. I know the 17-55 isn't an L, but would it kill Canon to include this little piece of plastic with a near-$1000 lens?

Nice Canon OEM quality with velour lining. Connects and disconnects easily with quarter turn. Price is ridiculously high for a piece of cheap plastic that should have come with the $999 lens.

The hood does its job - keeps out the stray light that could ruin your shot. I use it any time I use the lens. The only downside for me is the cost of the Canon hoods. After-market hoods are half the cost, but I always opt for the lens brand for peace of mind.

As with all Canon lens hoods, this bayonet mount hood is well-made, reverses for storage, and looks great. Excellent for reducing flare and protecting the front of the lens. However, because of the size of the lens and hood, it can easily block on-camera flash, causing shadows or uneven lighting.

Much more useful for lens protection than a uv filter. Also important for flare control. Reverses easily for storage. Avoid Chinese knock-offs as they do not fit as well.
