This is an awesome device, I have the Canon Legria HF G25 (European version, PAL system. It's perfect for indie filmmaking, its low light performance is incredible and it is easy to use. Very powerful camcorder and I preffer it over my DSLR cause this camcorder gives me the freedom I want when making little movies. I made a little horror film with just this camcorder and it was selected in the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in 2014. Bravo Canon!

I've had this camera for quite sometime now, but do to personal obligations haven't used it as much as I'd like. but i amazed by the results. The videos are clear and crisp. The camera is intuitive to use and is well balanced. It is not heavy. The IS is really quite good. Surprisingly so. I've sold a few videos made with this camera and look to doing much more now that things have settled. Unless you have really high end needs, I think this camera will do all you want and you will be pleasantly surprised at its versatility and quality. I couldn't be happier.

I have lived to regret selling mine. I liked the dual SD slots in addition to the internal memory, headphone and microphone jacks, and the manual controls. It was easy to setup and use. If not for owning two Canon DSLRs I would purchase another and hold on to it this time.

The built in manual controls are very nice. I shoot in a full white background so being able to adjust the exposure is great. Video quality in general is pretty sharp and colors are quite good.

I bought this 3 Months ago & have shot ~ 75 Hours of 1920x1080 HD Video . . . The video quality is awesome with Great Skin / Face Colors & Decent Low-Light resolution / Noise Levels . . . Some of the Menus could be Easier to use but their are Tons of Features to access ( or not . . . Very Good Overall Value !

To accommodate XLR ports for an external audio system, use the Beachtek XLR adapter and cable into the Vixia G20's "mic" port. I use a Sennheiser Evolution Wireless Series w100 self-powered system. The headphone jack on the camera is convenient for monitoring sound input while recording.

We get good images from this camera but I am used to a camcorder upon which I can attach a microphone -- a big shotgun microphone, and I like an XLR input not a wimpy mini-jack that tends to lose its grip. My son uses a separate audio recorder device when he shoots, but I like to hand hold a complete package of camera and microphone.

I purchased the G20 camera as a replacement to my Vixia HF M52 camera (which was stolen with the hopes of an upgrade in video quality. Although this camera has may 'bells & whistles (that I have little or no interest in), the video quality is no better than HF M52 which has a much lower price-point. Some of the controls, primarily witching from Manual to Auto is extremely difficult... The most disappointing was the fact the supplied software does not allow for Blue Ray authoring, which I was able to do with M52. The conversion from HD video files to Standard definition DVD produced a very low resolution DVD. In short, there is nothing wrong with the G20 camera, except the software package it is bundled with. But it is not worth the value compared to M-series camcorders for the additional cost.

Purchased the Canon HF G20 on June 7. Got it in the mail three days later. I was impressed with what I saw. Good quality image. It also come with a remote which is cool because you can now have options. The only thing I was disappointed about was the touch screen panel. You have to press down hard if you wish to select a button.

This camera is so awesome! I bought it refurbished with 20% off and I loved the G20 the day it came. If there was one thing to change, I would have made the shipping faster, because it was kind of slow (8 Days). This camera is above what I expected and beyond. It has a manual setting of focus (With a focus ring!), aperture, shutter speed, exposure and many other things. It also has a MIC terminal (For microphones and other things), a hot shoe, a electronic viewfinder and a lens hood (You can take it off if you want to). All of those features help me a lot and I highly recommend this camera to you if you are an advanced amateur filmmaker. This camera has a low price for all of its qualities and features.

I'm very happy with this camcorder, here in Europe it is called Canon Legria HF G25. I've just completed editing an horror indie feature film shot with this little (and great camcorder. My film was shot in seven days with no lighting but the sun, with this I mean this camcorder is perfect when you have no crew, as I was. The camcorder job was done all by myself and this is a camcorder LOADED with pro features that allows an easy use to get professional results. Its low light performance is simply amazing, it even seemed I had some lights when in fact I did not. This is truly a remarkable device, the kind of camcorder I want by my side in hard pressed shootings. Bravo Canon!!!

Great camcorder with excellent video quality. Would like to see a better software to make downloading simpler. Hand adjustment for features on shooting are somewhat a problem for me. But all in all, the finished video is its best feature.

This is my 5th Canon camcorder and I love it! This almost pro camera is packed with nearly all the pro features I have used on other pro cameras, at a fantastic price. The image quality and ease of use is wonderful. This camera is perfect for anyone wanting a more professional look to their video. The use of the touch screen for focus, tracking, and exposure is awesome! This camera could be improved in three ways: Make the touch menu easer to navigate. Make the touch screen more sensitive. Give it a standard hot shoe. Overall, Canon did a great job giving modest improvements to the excellent G10 and then giving it a price that says "Wow!" Thank you Canon!

This Camera, needs 1fps, for animation 9fps and 56fps for slow motion, how about a interval timer. what ever happen to second audio track for background music and easy dial and control to use the features . finally upgraded Great camera.. Only Flaw is that the LCD shows aliasing ( seriously - I didn't believe it but and it's a simple firmware fix for the display) / it may have an easy fix, but I haven't found a way to fix this minor flaw.. - but it's just the display. and - if you hit the lens shade (accidently) it may detach low light shooting is great ! Battery life great image quality for post processing, flawless ! Would recommend this to anyone !

I've owned Canon Powershots but mainly used these cameras to video. This is my first camcorder (that I can take a few pictures with). It is a joy to have the right tool for the job. I am a Canon fan: quality, ease of menu. But that is not why this is a 4-star camcorder. So far I am very pleased with zoom, color, mic. I do have some low light oddities but think that is my lack of knowledge on settings (totally using auto now). Why not 5 stars? I don't know the equipment well enough yet! Talk to me again in a couple of months.

My old expensive little Sony went south and I saw the Canon G10 at NAB used to document the show. Bought the updated G20 and will use it in South Africa in a fanny pack configuration. The resolution is great. I just used it next to my big HD camera to see how it compared...very well. So it will intercut for a B camera or may be used when a small home video camera is less conspicuous to various authorities in third world countries. I shoot out of fixed wing aircraft and this will work great when space matters. Great little camera.

Will shoot shorts at weddings and events. Will also use this camcorder to create DVD footage. Better than expected in low light. Very impressed with the image quality. This was an upgrade from my last camcorder, so was not that hard to learn.

We wee looking for new documentary cameras that would be less bulky than the larger XA series Canons that we use and this was recommended to us by the director and DP of several episodic tv shows as being just what we wanted....actually they recommended the HF G10 but the G20 was available for pre-order so we went for it and are glad we did. It is essentially the same camera as the XA-10 without the removable handle and half the internal memory...but also at about half the cost, which is great since with the savings we could buy brackets, handles, shotgun mics, and huge SD cards which more than make up the memory sacrificed. We've already used the HF G20 on several projects and it has worked superbly every time, well exceeding our expectations.

I missed being able to focus instantaneous in a shot and the form factor of a DSLR as a video camera definitely is not there for run and gun situations I am finding my self into chasing a 2 year old around. Sure you can spend money on an elaborate setup that can turn the DSLR into something like a camcorder but I like the compactness the likes of the G20 offered. So enter the Canon Vixia HF G20. I was interested in a sub $1200 HD camcorder and I am always a first to want a new thing so in return, and you, get an early review having 2 weeks with it so far. From what I know the camcorder is exactly the same as the G10 predecessor except for the new HD Pro sensor that allows more light capture. So far it has shocked me how well the camcorder takes video and although the controls do take a little time to master, the touch screen works well. Maybe they did improve on it from the complaints I read on the G10. I did drop one star for two reasons. The battery that comes with it is terrible so you best splurge on the max capacity one Canon BP-827 Lithium Ion Battery Pack. Also I wish they included a shoulder strap to carry the camcorder around easily
