Fortunately, I had the ability to see what this camcorder does prior to purchase. My friend is a professional news photographer and this is the product he uses. It's daytime quality is superior but lacks a little quality in low light situations. In low light conditions the highlighted areas appear to be blown out. However, this is something I would expect from a camcorder that is less expensive than other more professional Canon camcorders. The video stills are just as clear and vibrant as those taken with my Canon 7d camera. I do, however, wish it had a date time stamp. This would be very useful in my private investigations business. Overall, I am very happy with this product along with Adorama. Their website is easy to navigate and their delivery was extremely fast. I would recommend Adorama to anyone looking to purchase professional quality Photography equipment.

This cam is very good for the money. The lens is very sharp, even compared with my 5d3 and L-lens. The 20x zoom is very long and useful and the rocker switch is smooth. Low light performance is outstanding, most likely because they didn't cram too many pixels. Image output when played on a large HD TV is very good. Size and form factor is excellent. Image stabilization is very good. Now the drawbacks, some of the menu items are hard to use for example, try switching to slow mow, well there are like 3 other factors that you have to know how to set first and they aren't obvious and you have to download the manual to figure it out. I would like to see more manual switches. There is way too much DOF, the only way to get significant background blur is to be super close and zoom in. Skin colors and WB both seem inaccurate, but not terrible. Sensor has a bad range between highlights and shadows and many images have bad, blown out backgrounds. Despite the listed cons, the pros easily outweigh them in my opinion. The form factor, long, sharp lens, with great image stabilization make this an excellent runs and gun or vacation type cam.

The camera has drawbacks when utilizing it for private investigations and/or professional use. The camera does not have an embedded date. Therefore, you cannot remove the SD card and input it into your computer to be able to transfer the video with date timestamp. Which is a necessity in the law enforcement industry and/or private investigation industry. Also the causes extensive wear and tear on the camera itself by having to use it as a camera and VCR playback the video.

Having been a Prosumer camcorder owner, I was amazed at how many similar features could be incorporated into such a small package. My other camcorder is a 3 chip model. Very little difference in quality of video. Small size is a plus many times when you don't want to appear "PROFESSIONAL".

Great cam. That's the good part. Just got back from an adventure to Southeast Alaska, this is a temperate rain forest and although mostly good weather it was cloudy and misty a lot of the time. I did take some split nd filters as I planned on the cloud cover. The only bad thing was the fancy lens hood would not go on with the filters.I did have my Vixia 10 with me so I took the hood and lens cap from it. Now back in sunny Calif. the problem will be a polarizing filter won't fit. Great camera both Canon and I need to plan ahead.
