DENNIS H : Does the appropriate software for a Mac come with the camera?HAROLD W : My product came with the software for both Mac and PC.JAMES T : Yes. There is a Instruction manual and image browser ex but it doesn't state if it's for Windows or Mac. There is a second disk labeled Data Import Utility disk Ver 2.0 for Windows and Mac. That's the best I can tell you. FYI I used the CC for recording fireworks and all I can say is WOW. One heck of a CC for the money.
DENNIS H : Can the SD card be directly downloaded and played on to Mac?PHIA V : Yes of course. I have no issue with either my PC or iMac.RON K : Yes it can as I have made I movies from the cardsPETER B : yes,GREGG P : I don't know. I don't have a Mac.PAUL D : yesDAVID S : Yes it can.ALAN U : I don't know for sure . The camera creates either MTS or MPEG4 files (your choice). You can always download (free) the VLC Media player if QT won't play them. Now of coarse that doesn't mean your NLE will recognize them. I've read that the files should be converted to ProRez for FCP. Hope that's helpful. I'm not a Mac person.GREGORY P : Yes. You'll need the software to read whichever file type you take the videos in.VAN P : Yes
Laurence B : Good Morning. I need to take video inside homes or apartments to document rented contents and the rented condition thereof. As you can imaging, the area/rooms/bathrooms/closets is tighten in many rooms. Irrespective of this problem, I have to get as wide an overview shot as possible and thereafter, photograph specific rented furniture and fixtures in detail (close up) to establish rented condition. I am a Canon user. Can you recumbent a canon video (or still) with a wide angle lens, or a wide angle auxiliary extra lens?? If there is a better camera than a Canon, please recommend that video camera too, Thank you, Laurence BearGREGG P : According to the HG G30 users manual, a Canon accessory WA-H58 Wide Attachment can be used with this camera, although I do not used one. Gregg PerkinsPHIA V : I am a Canon user as well and that was the reason I bought HF G30 this past July for a family vacation to California. I love this camera. It has a wide angle and the colors are vibrant. You should be able to use this camera for your situation. If you need even wider than what the camcorder offers, you buy additional lens to attach to it. For my needs of family video, church activities, and others, this camcorder perfectly suits me. Wide angle and 22x zoom just like some o the pro camcorder which I have one as well. Hope this helps.

Canon delivers again

Fortunately, I had the ability to see what this camcorder does prior to purchase. My friend is a professional news photographer and this is the product he uses. It's daytime quality is superior but lacks a little quality in low light situations. In low light conditions the highlighted areas appear to be blown out. However, this is something I would expect from a camcorder that is less expensive than other more professional Canon camcorders. The video stills are just as clear and vibrant as those taken with my Canon 7d camera. I do, however, wish it had a date time stamp. This would be very useful in my private investigations business. Overall, I am very happy with this product along with Adorama. Their website is easy to navigate and their delivery was extremely fast. I would recommend Adorama to anyone looking to purchase professional quality Photography equipment.

Very good for money

This cam is very good for the money. The lens is very sharp, even compared with my 5d3 and L-lens. The 20x zoom is very long and useful and the rocker switch is smooth. Low light performance is outstanding, most likely because they didn't cram too many pixels. Image output when played on a large HD TV is very good. Size and form factor is excellent. Image stabilization is very good. Now the drawbacks, some of the menu items are hard to use for example, try switching to slow mow, well there are like 3 other factors that you have to know how to set first and they aren't obvious and you have to download the manual to figure it out. I would like to see more manual switches. There is way too much DOF, the only way to get significant background blur is to be super close and zoom in. Skin colors and WB both seem inaccurate, but not terrible. Sensor has a bad range between highlights and shadows and many images have bad, blown out backgrounds. Despite the listed cons, the pros easily outweigh them in my opinion. The form factor, long, sharp lens, with great image stabilization make this an excellent runs and gun or vacation type cam.

The camera has a few drawback

The camera has drawbacks when utilizing it for private investigations and/or professional use. The camera does not have an embedded date. Therefore, you cannot remove the SD card and input it into your computer to be able to transfer the video with date timestamp. Which is a necessity in the law enforcement industry and/or private investigation industry. Also the causes extensive wear and tear on the camera itself by having to use it as a camera and VCR playback the video.

Prosumer Capability in much smaller pack

Having been a Prosumer camcorder owner, I was amazed at how many similar features could be incorporated into such a small package. My other camcorder is a 3 chip model. Very little difference in quality of video. Small size is a plus many times when you don't want to appear "PROFESSIONAL".

Vixia hf g 30

Great cam. That's the good part. Just got back from an adventure to Southeast Alaska, this is a temperate rain forest and although mostly good weather it was cloudy and misty a lot of the time. I did take some split nd filters as I planned on the cloud cover. The only bad thing was the fancy lens hood would not go on with the filters.I did have my Vixia 10 with me so I took the hood and lens cap from it. Now back in sunny Calif. the problem will be a polarizing filter won't fit. Great camera both Canon and I need to plan ahead.
