DEBRA R : Does this, or any camcorder, still have an optical viewfinder? I would love a new camcorder but hate having to use a screen to record. I want to record my daughter's theatre performances and having a bright screen open is really disrupting. I would love a great camera with a viewfinder, any suggestions?ANDREW B : there is no separate viewfinder on this modelKURT K : This one has no viewfinder.EDWARD E : This camcorder does not have a viewfinder. The only way to view footage is using the LCD screen which is worthless outside in bright light. Some of the larger, more expensive camcorders have electronic viewfinders, but to keep costs and sizes down, the really small, inexpensive camcorders have removed that feature.DAVID L : This Canon Camcorder does NOT have an optical viewfinder. You may need to look at digital SLR cameras that have video capabilities.DAVID C : It does not have an optical viewfinder. Best bet would be a DSLR for that. Or you could put this one on a tripod and close the screen?ADAM B : This camera does not have a viewfinder.SIMON R : No optical finder here...MATTHEW W : cams are going to screens because they are easier and more efficient. if you want one with an eyepiece, thats what you want, you are going to have to go more expensive twords the "prosumer" or pro market. everyone else is going to be using their iphones etc...big luminous screens....and they wont give a 5h*!....whats the big deal? its not like its even a B grade movie...its a recital...get used to it.
MOHAMMED H : What brand of SD card is recommeded for this product. I bought a New 64GB Class 10 SDXC/SDHC(HC SD) Professional Flash Memory Card and i keep getting the message that it cannot save it to memory card.?KERNEL D : This seems to be a common problem. It happened to me too. I had to buy another Calss 10 card on the internet and that seems to work fine. I am not sure whether its an issue with the card from Adorama or the Camera? Since my return time for the card is over, I was left with no choice other than buying a new one.KURT K : I believe there is a firmware upgrade for this camera that will allow you to use Class 10 cards. Check with Canon's website in their support section.DAVID L : I'm using a Lexar 32GB 400x Speed SDHC (SD HC) Class 10. It's working fine for me. I would think your card should work fine.ERICK M : I bought a Lexar Professional 32GB Class10 400x SD Card. I bought this brand because I use the same brand (Compact Flash) with my camera and I've yet to have any issues with this brand. Good luck.JULIE T : We use all sorts of different brands in these cameras--we have six of them for my classes. I've never heard of this issue. Have you tried another memory card?MOHAMMED H : I found an answer. I had to initialize the SD card. got it all working.
ARTURO G : In original box? GraciasKATHY C : Mine came in a white box that says Canon and "refurbished" on the side. I don't think it's the original box.ANDREW R : Normally refurbished equipment is provided by the manufacturer in sealed boxes that differ from the original box. Normally refurbs are clearly indicated as such on the packaging.

Great camera, great value, no software

This was a great deal for a refurbished product. One warning, the package does _not_ include any software, and Canon will tell you they can't send it to you. So, be sure you have other AVHCD (or whatever the format is called!?) editing software, otherwise, the HD files will be useless. Lower resolutions create MP4 which is more readily handled, but you still have to provide your own. Anyway, from a camera perspective, This seems like a nice device. The battery seems to last a lot more than the 20 minutes some have quoted, but since I'm looking at recording presentations, I use it on the (included) power adapter/charger anyway. I misread the data and bought a 16GB Lexar card, thinking I'd get about 20 minutes of video, but it's far more than that. Without checking, I think it's about 1:40 at max definition, full HD/24Mbps, and 8 hours in 720/MP4, which still provides a very decent picture. The camera's interface is pretty simple, I don't think I had to read anything in the manual yet. The zoom is long and smooth, the image stabilization is very effective, even badly hand held, and it handles panning quite well too, smoothly catching up after initially "anti-shaking" the movement away.

Works fine, little battery

This is our 1st video camera, so I have nothing to compare to. The battery life is not long enough. I use it to capture my kids' moments so for shows or games, it needs plugged in to record. I haven't bothered with any special features, I just record and that's it. It's easy for that. It's kind of small so might be hard for a person with a big hand.

Great basic camera!

These low-cost cameras with mic inputs work great for our beginning video classes. With good lighting, the image quality is good, and students like that they're small and easy to stow in their lockers.

Refurb Canon

I ordered this camera because I needed an affordable camera that still has a quality picture. I ride horses and I needed a camera that operates in low lights (dark arenas) and outdoors. So far, this camera has been great. Every other comment complains about the short battery life (approx. 30-40 minutes). An additional Canon battery retails around $100, so when I ordered the camera I also ordered a non-Canon battery pack for $16 that has a battery life of 1 hour 45 minutes. Although the camera does not communicate with the battery (i.e., you can't see how much battery is left), the battery function is the same and it was worth it for me for the price difference and the added time to video. The only caveat is that the other battery is about 2-3 times larger than the original, so if you plan to do this and buy a camera case, it may be good to make sure that the case will fit the camera + battery. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

Would buy this again

Excellent camera. It's one of the few that I've found which gives good results in both low-lit, and outdoor conditions. Highly recommended.
