I had previously collected 5 Canon Elves along with one of the Canon Point-n-Shoots in the SX-200 series. As far as movies, I'd had experience with a Flip and an iPod Touch (like an iPhone without the phone. The hardware of the Vixia HF R52 is intuitive. It assembles readily and fits in the hand like a glove, making me anxious to try out its video sharpness and audio quality (I was planning to record a few piano pieces before tonight). Five hours later I have yet to to get a glimmer of life from the camera--nothing in the touch screen, no indication of life in the battery. I downloaded an instruction manual, and am reading about set points, NFC connections, soft-ware complexities--but not how to get this camera up and running. In addition to no instructions, there were none of the advertised discs or software programs included with the camera. Three cables were included: 1. USB to USB mini (there's a slot for it in the camera); 2. a mini DVD (which fits into another slot in the camera) a regular DVD (for a TV set, nice idea); 3. an electrical transformer that's especially puzzling since it ends with what looks like ½ of a mini connector (the top--or maybe it's the bottom--half of it is removed). This unusual end connects with nothing on the camera that I'm able to see. I purchased this from Canon several months ago, planning to use it during our late summer vacation next week. Now that I've unpackaged the Vixia HK R52 , I'm beginning to think my wife's recommendation of an iPhone wasn't such a bad idea, after all. I can attest that the camera has numerous fans and that's just the right size (I started out with a Bolex Super 8 in the 1970s.) My hunch is that the extra gadgetry--wireless transmission to and from your other mobile device, NFC connectivity, booster points to ensure a strong signal throughout your house--is inessential to operation of the camera and not used by the majority of its owners. If you can pop a fresh battery in the machine and activate the trigger, you should have a very nice camera in your hand (its lightness is said to be more than compensated for by its smooth, anti-shake properties).

I bought this camcorder thinking it was high quality. I have recorded several VERY important events (graduation, wedding, etc. and they are still on the camera because I cannot upload them to ANYTHING! The manual is impossible to follow because it jumps all over the place. It is truly a piece of junk...don't buy it!

Great quality pictures! It was a little difficult to figure out how to download the pictures to the computer. The manual is complicated and somewhat confusing.

I like this video camera and it replaces our old mini tape ones. Still working out some of the features but it is nice. For future: 1. Would like it to be work with my ITunes software which includes editing. I don't want to download any extra 3rd party stuff 2. Longer battery life (even when using best picture quality) and a separate wall charger to come with it to charge just the battery when its off the camera 3. A Higher pixels to take better still photos

I brought this camera to record high quality audio and video by using this camcorder with an external mixer for music auditions. This camera manual audio lets you set for a line level input. I then can quickly title and trim with my AVS Video Editor to hand off to the client The Wifi is poorly implemented only really works directly to an IPad (but with reduced video and delay)

This is a fantastic Camera. I had no trouble straight out of the box. The results of my first three Videos was far greater than I expected I highly recommend this Camera to everyone.

The Intelligent Image Stabilizer works better than expected. HD image is top Quality, very good battery life. I wish it had a larger monitor screen and threads for filter`s.

Decent camera overall, but owner's manual is poorly organized and hard to understand, particularly related to the downloading of video from the Hard Drive to recording DVDs or onto a computer. 3rd party software is counter-intuitive in operation and doesn't follow standard, easy to use features like the camcorder does. Very disappointed in unnecessary complexity and overall clumsiness of recording process and software. Will not be using camera for important events as a result, and will rely on existing cam for key events.

After careful review of options, I chose this camera. However, I was extremely disappointed that video editing and DVD burning software was not included. I have used Pixela's editing/burning software, so I was hopeful when I saw that a Pixela product was included. However, it is only a media transfer utility. After spending so much on the camcorder, I would appreciate not having to spend more on software! I still don't have the videos on a disc. (Incidentally, Pixela bundled software allows you to burn video to DVD as you go, some now, some later.) Also, I appreciate the quality of the audio and video, and the ease of use is a 4. However, when filming a concert, there was a lot of peripheral noise near the camera that was picked up. I will be shopping for a zoom microphone that will concentrate its energies on the stage.

Like the title says "as advertised". Camera performs as advertised...good quality videos for the price. You will need a back-up battery if you are using the camera for more than 90 minutes and the cost of a spare battery isn't cheap. Great camera, I would recommend it to anyone.

Nice cam. Nice features. Would of been a 5 star however the wifi remote function is useless on the Galaxy s5. The app does not support it and from other reviews I've been reading it doesn't support quite a few other android devices. What a waste of the wifi function.

I am a professional photographer and also do movie productions as a hobby. I cannot speak highly enough about the Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder. You have to read the 200 page owners manual to appreciate all this camcorder can do. The optics are incredibly clear and concise. Close ups so close and clear that you can almost touch the lens on it and it will be in focus. The image stabilization is also incredible and whether you want the ease of putting the camcorder on Auto or going manual and creating your own this camcorder does it all. the camcorder is Wifi and can also be controlled with your smartphone or ipad home or away from home. This camcorder is well worth the amount invested and it is small, sleek, and compact yet its memory can hold a ton of high definition video. So happy I purchased this camcorder. You can't beat the Canon optics. From a professional standpoint this camcorder really is a State of the Art camcorder. Love the touch screen and the huge 3" screen. I have nothing con to say about this camcorder at all. It is 100% Pro.
