Very straightforward, easy to use. So far, all videos very sharp and clear. Easy to hold with compact size. Only complaint so far is it seems to get very warm with extended use.

I've had previous models that I lost to divorce. Purchased this for simple video of my kids and their sporting events. For a HD camera, the video is mediocre at best? Don't get it. Then the autofocus of this recorder is TERRIBLE. When you zoom in to about 2/3 it's capacity, it has difficulty focusing and stops trying so you see a blurry screen? I'm almost 50 (can't believe I'm admitting that? and my vision is getting worse and worse. So, it's very difficult to tell from the small screen if I'm focused or not and don't trust the auto focus nor video it's taking. Want to get rid of this recorder. It's a shame. Had so much luck w/ my previous Vixia.

I do a lot of YouTube videos. The GoPro was just to difficult and hard to work with. The canon has changed my life. I can record with the push of a button, picture is great and videos are easy to remove off the SD card. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fast grab with great video. Video comes off SD card in MP4 format and the screen is visible in the sun.

I love the video this camera takes, but downloading it onto my computer is extremely difficult. I have followed the directions to the letter, but it takes me forever to get anything other than a message saying the camera cannot be found. they really need to make this camera more user friendly.

Got this camera so I could record my brother's soccer games so he and his team could review what they did wrong and also have my parents who are always working be able to watch the game as well. I do my best to stand at the middle of the field and record the game that way, I use a tri pod and pan the camera left or right which ever way they are going. I zoom in during free kicks, pk kicks, or corner kicks. When I upload them on my computer I noticed that my camera has broken up the files for whatever reason. Doesn't really bother me I blend them together with movie maker and you can barely notice anything. Audio is not perfect, but there are mics you can purchase for that but you would be better off just purchasing a high end camera.

Like other reviews say, good in situations where lighting is prime. However, none of the reviews I read told me that the camera just stops recording on its own. I have hooked the camera up to my computer several times to import a video that was supposed to be lets say 10 mins long, instead was only 4 mins long. Very disappointing. I've missed a lot of footage which was supposed to be the main point in my video...

I'm sending this back. I bought it for recording sermons at my church. The video was not usable. It was darker and grainier than our old camera which is a Canon Vixia HF40. I may have gotten a bad one, but these are the facts.

as a professional dog trainer, observation and timing are key skills. I use this camcorder to record training sessions with client's dogs so they can better understand the process of training their own dog. The download process into the computer is very quick and flawless.

This was a gift for my son, who dabbles in YouTube videos. This was a great buy! The sound and video quality are excellent! The bundle came with a lot of extras too!

This is a perfect video camera! I was surprised at how light and compact it is! It's easy to use and is perfect for my 14-year-old daughters to use for their video channel. I love that it came with a bag and other accessories. Other stores had it for the same price without any of the extras. It was the favorite holiday gift!!

I am very unhappy with the VIXIA HF R700. I bought this to record our grandchildren's music programs. In the play back you can barely hear the music. My iphone & ipad make much better recordings. I wanted a designated device for recording so I didn't use my cell phone memory up. I have tried making the adjustments suggested from the manuel but nothing worked. I am returning asap. Will try a Sony and if the sound isn't any better, guess I will go back to using my iphone. Very disappointing.

Great camera so far. Very compact in size but still has an impressive zoom capability. The image stabilization feature is also quite valuable. I haven't had the camera long but excited to get some great use out of it in the future

The Canon VIXIW HF R700 is an overall good camera and works amazingly in the day light, During the night or low dim areas, you could still see a bit of a decrease in quality but that is just natural when it comes to camcorders for consumer use. As a more experienced film maker, I would prefer the camera to have a hotshoe attachment Overall I enjoy the features such as choosing the scene since it gives me more options to record in any type of environment. I would definitely recommend this camcorder to anyone looking for something within a reasonable price with great quality.

I bought this a month ago. All around a decent camera. Canon is Great. This particular product is nice to experiment with if you are an aspiring filmmaker. But i wouldn't shoot an entire feature with this. It's nice just to play around with. It has its flaws like focusing when it's zoomed in pretty close, and sound quality isn't stupendous but all in all, good buy for a reasonable price.

Very happy with this handheld video camera so far. Still learning how to use all of it's items since I have only had for 2 weeks Used it to shoot marching band and color guard and the sound was great and the color was sharp. Recommend for anyone that is looking for a small handheld camera to use for family and sports events. Only problem I had is that I need to work on is motion. Took me a little while to figure out how to pan an area without making it blurry.

Before I had a Sony Handycam that contained a Hi-8 tape. I used it for 10 years. I finally decided it was time for a new high definition video recorder. I ended buying the Canon Vixia. This one takes a memory card; not a tape like my last one. Anyway, it's a great little lightweight video recorder. The only problem I have now is, that I don't know how to put a video together after I record bits and pieces on the memory card. I guess I will have to buy some kind of program to put each piece recording together to make a complete video.

From what I have used of this camera, the image is pretty good and crisp in well lit environments. The zoom is pretty amazing coming from someone that has only used a smartphone with digital zoom for videography before. The image typically beats out my smartphone...until the lights go off. Once the lights go off, everything starts to become grainy and unclear.

Very disappointed, and I'm a big believer in Canon products. I kept reading these rave reviews, so I took the plunge. The video was not very sharp for a full 1080p camera. There was even a slight white outline around the subjects in the video, which caused added fuzziness. I compared the video to my Canon SX20 IS - a camera first, and 720p video second. The SX20 IS came out in 2009, and was it's video is vastly superior to this 2016 Vixia HF R700. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a 7 year old camera can have better video, at a lower resolution, then a brand new video first camera. Sad. Oh - and it's going back.

I've been an avid consumer camcord user since my first born child was a baby, some 26 years ago. I have owned Sony camcorders from back in the 8mm tape days to the hard drive versions, and finally switched when I needed my latest upgrade. At a similar price point, the Sony product feels very flimsy and cheap compared to this Canon. For the gentleman that had trouble seeing the flip-out screen in daylight--that's a very common problem. I highly recommend a small "hood" that slide over the screen. I bought mine on Amazon--made of leather, with velcro, and adjustable, and it makes the viewing screen viewable in the brightest of sunlight. (Hint-look for LCD Screen Sun Shield for DSLR Cameras and Camcorders. I purchased this Canon for my daughter's show choirs, plays, and indoor singing performances, as well as my son's outdoor soccer matches. It has been outstanding both in indoor light, as well as outdoors, adjusting well to the differences in available light sources. I'm a "set it and forget it" kind of guy, so I can't go into the various modes--I use automatic, and it works well. My first occasion to use it was shortly after purchasing it and we were at Disney. Used it while walking around (great snapshot features), as well as on occasional rides, including the milder "roller coaster" type rides (including Splash Mountain--caught my son ahead of me losing his hat on the final splash down!). I went from non-high definition recording (hey, my old Sony was working great otherwise) to being able to see players moving quickly, with no blur, with a large 110-meter field and moving the camera quickly to adjust. Could not do that with my old camcorder. As a quarter-century Sony camcorder user (many models, and always happy with the choice), I could not be happier with this choice. For the money, it is outstanding.

This camcorder does everything I wanted it to. But if I had the extra money I would get the R70 model because of the WiFi feature for uploading. Wish I had that. That is the only difference between the two.
