Canon’s 20-50mm f/4 Lens brings the outstanding reliability we are used to seeing in L-series glass to a new type of RF-series lens. Built-in Power Zoom functionality is the first of its kind among RF lenses, and a fixed maximum aperture of f/4 across the 20-50mm focal range makes this lens incredibly versatile for video and still creators alike.
Photographers will enjoy the excellent image stabilization, high-quality optics, and Nano USM Focus, while video creators will thrive with minimal focus breathing and powered zoom, including Creative Zoom Control with 15 adjustable power zoom speed settings.
This is the first full-frame powered zoom lens from Canon, which features internal zoom and a highly versatile 20-50mm focal range. It is also the first f/4 L-series standard zoom lens starting from 20mm. It combines the high performance of L-series lenses with a versatile focal length thatis sure to please creators of all types. For those who want the ability to zoom manually, a lock switch on the lens side quickly switches the lens into or out of power zoom mode, and zooming is always performed via two zoom-dedicated Nano USM motors, even when manually zooming.

Canon has opted to use its Nano USM focusing motor, which combines the high-speed performance of Ring-Type Ultrasonic Motors with the smooth, near-silent operation of STM motors to offer fast, accurate, quiet autofocus performance that is perfect for fast-moving action and scenes where near-silent autofocus is essential.

Users can expect to harness 6.0 stops of Optical Image Stabilization at the image center, leaving it on par with many other L-series lenses. When paired with the In-Body Stabilization found on many Canon cameras, you can expect 8.0 stops of stabilization, helping you retain sharp images when shooting on the move or in low ambient light. More image stabilization means you can capture images at slower handheld shutter speeds than ever before, ultimately resulting in images with more detail and less noise.

Powered zoom is an incredible feature for videographers looking to pick up this lens. Users will experience creative zooming control with 15 adjustable power zoom speed settings, allowing you to electronically control the zoom via apps and compatible accessories completely hands-free.
Again, when paired with some of Canon’s excellent high-resolution video cameras, the result is stunning footage that can be zoomed while shooting, giving more flexibility in post-processing. Additionally, very minimal focus breathing is present with the 20-50mm lens, making it perfect for a variety of videographic techniques.
Finally, the power zoom is completely internal, meaning the lens can be used at any focal length without rebalancing a gimbal, making it perfect for creators who need to switch between focal lengths quickly so they don’t miss the perfect moment.
To add to an already very versatile focal length and lens features, Canon has designed this lens to be friendly for those who spend long days out shooting. To keep the burden off your back, the lens weighs in just under a pound (14.8oz / 420g) and is also compact at just under 4” long (3.9” / 98.4mm). A 67mm front element holds filters and also gives an idea of the overall size of this lens.
