I love this lens!!!! So far I have used it for wildlife. It is spectacular and focus on the eye is more than amazing!! The details are excellent! It is lighter than my Canon 800mm, and I love it, but this one is even better by a long ways!!

I am an amateur nature photographer, so I photograph mostly birds and mammals, often from way too far away. This lens helps to bring me a little closer to my desired models (birds and mammals) than my other Canon lenses. I purchased this lens from Bedford Camera, with the help of George Lepp, about a year ago. I love this lens when the air is clear and the temperature is cool. I easily give this lens 5 stars, as it's the only way that I can capture distant pics of birds and mammals that I would otherwise end up capturing as a small dot in my resulting pics. I really enjoy using the RF1200mm lens in conjunction with my RF 2x Extender, giving me 2400mm of close-up activity. Obvious downsides to the lens are that it can take awhile to find your subject in wide open spaces and that the lens is very subject to capturing all of the dirt/pollution in the air. And, of course, heat wave distortion is a significant problem with this lens. An upside is that this lens also provides me the ability to capture some very nice stabilized video of birds and mammals. To summarize, downsides aside, I LOVE this lens and enjoy getting pics and videos of nature and it's numerous denizens. Good job Canon!

the lens is very light considering the 1200mm it is sharp but not as sharp as a 28-70 however in photoshop you could make it a lot sharper this lens has such long reach that it is amazing especially with the 2x extender if you have a use for this lens and want to spend the money it is worth it

absultly the best lens .......... ..............................
Over the horizon and beyond, the Canon RF 1200mm f/8 L IS USM Lens stands as a pinnacle of super-telephoto photography, offering an unmatched combination of reach and performance. As the longest telephoto lens in the Canon EOS R System lineup, this lens is a formidable tool for professionals capturing outdoor sports, wildlife, and journalistic endeavors where distance cannot compromise image quality.
Crafted with precision, the RF 1200mm f/8 L IS USM features a sophisticated optical design that includes two large-diameter Fluorite elements, one Super UD, and one UD-glass element, all working in harmony to produce images of exceptional clarity and contrast. The advanced Air Sphere Coating (ASC) further enhances image quality by significantly reducing lens flare and ghosting, ensuring your captures are crisp and free of distractions.
Despite its impressive focal length, the lens maintains a surprisingly light weight of just 7.4 lbs., a testament to Canon's innovative engineering. This lightweight design, coupled with the robust L-series construction, makes the lens a reliable companion for photographers in the field, ensuring durability and resistance to dust and water.
The RF 1200mm f/8 L IS USM is not just about power; it's about precision. With a minimum focusing distance of approximately 14.1 ft., it allows for tight framing of subjects, making it ideal for capturing the intricate details of distant wildlife or the intensity of athletes in action. The lens's Optical Image Stabilization system provides up to 4 stops of shake correction, enabling sharp, clear images even when shooting handheld or in challenging lighting conditions.
For those seeking even greater magnification, the lens is compatible with Canon's RF1.4x and RF2x Extenders, expanding the effective focal length to an astonishing 1680mm and 2400mm, respectively. This transformative capability opens up new possibilities for capturing subjects that were once out of reach.
The customizable electronic focus ring, complete with manual focus capability during SERVO AF, offers personalized control over focusing, with three selectable speed levels to suit any shooting style. Additionally, the lens features two focus presets, allowing photographers to instantly switch between memorized focus distances with ease.
Boasting a 9-blade circular aperture, the RF 1200mm f/8 L IS USM creates beautifully soft backgrounds and bokeh, adding an artistic quality to your images that draws viewers into the scene.
In summary, the Canon RF 1200mm f/8 L IS USM Lens is a powerful, high-quality, reliable, durable, and innovative choice for photographers who demand the best in super-telephoto imaging. Its unparalleled reach, combined with advanced image stabilization and a rugged build, make it an essential asset for capturing the world's most distant and challenging subjects with stunning clarity and detail.
