This is an amazing lens. I haven't had a chance to use it in the field yet, but I am eager to make it happen.

I bought this one to exchange the EF version (28-70L II) of the lens, however, I couldn't find any benefit doing so. The RF 24-105mm is an exceptionally expensive gear, with the same 2.8 aperture, which makes it boring. The design is full plastic that is very prone to scratching and attracts fingerprints. Also, there is no metric indicator about the focusing distance (as opposed to the EF version), which makes it very difficult to focus manually. All in all, the worst investment you could make!

Amazing, who needs another lens. It's a little weird when shooting people close up, too big, but it's the lens that lives on my camera. Sharp, Great.

I am a part-time pro photographer, and this lens does 90% or more of what I need. The quality and sharpness are incredible. Autofocus is fast ane reliable. I love the internal zooming, and the overall build quality is superb. It is not a light lens, but with its coverage, I don't need to swap lenses during any of my event shoots. It is a bit overkill for my studio work, but I sold my Sigma EF 24-105 f/4 Art to get this lens, and I don't regret it one bit. I love that the foot is removable, allowing you to remove it without removing the lens or the entire collar. I've just started doing video work, and I like having the aperture ring on the lens because adjusting it causes much less shake in the camera when I record.

Great lens for video. Typically I will bounce around between a 15-35, 24-70 or a 70-200 for my typical shoot. However, with this new lens I go to it every time and will rarely switch. I currently pair it with my R5C and will try it on my Komodo soon but It is a one and done lens. The only con I would say, which is what everyone says, Is its big. Its not heavy though. But it is about the size of a 70-200 EF lens which I would normally run around with from time to time so it didn't bother me much. I would say if you are cool with the size and like internal zooming go for this but if not go for the 24-70 or 28-70.

I had the opportunity to use this lens in February 2024 for a week. I was pleasantly surprised that I never took it off my R5. I loved it! in April it became available to purchase again so I bought it. It still holds residence on my R5. Sharpness is phenomenal! 95% of my work is shot on this lens now.

Like many people, I've been waiting for this lens for my entire career. Instantly the ultimate "walk around" lens. I'm not a small person and my hands are large, so I don't mind the size & weight of this lens. I understand how this would be a factor for some. But for me, it feels...right.

Pretty Good! First Impressions: Straight out of the box, the lens's build quality struck me. It's a solid piece of gear, typical of Canon's L-series, with dust and moisture resistance, making it reliable for outdoor shoots. It's a bit on the heavier side at 1330g, but when paired with a camera like the EOS R5, the balance is spot on. Design and Handling: The lens doesn't extend when zoomed, a feature I appreciate for both practicality and aesthetics. The inclusion of four control rings (including a stepless aperture ring) adds to the user experience, especially for videographers. The 11-blade diaphragm is a bonus, contributing to that creamy bokeh effect we all love. Optical Performance: With 23 elements, including four ultra-low dispersion lenses, the image clarity is remarkable. The f/2.8 aperture is a game-changer for low-light scenarios and achieving a shallow depth of field. Canon's Air Sphere and Super Spectra coatings are effective in minimizing flare and ghosting, ensuring crisp images even in challenging lighting. Video Features: As a hybrid lens, it's tailored not just for photography but also for video production. The electronic parfocal design and focus breathing suppression are big pluses. The stepless aperture ring, although only operational in video mode at launch, is a feature I found incredibly useful. Image Stabilization: This is where the lens really shines. With up to 5.5 stops of stabilization (8 stops with an IBIS-equipped body), shooting handheld in low light or capturing stable video footage becomes significantly easier. Extras: The compatibility with Power Zoom Adaptors (PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B) is intriguing, especially for video production, though they come at an extra cost. Conclusion: The Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z lens is a formidable tool, especially for event and wedding photographers/videographers who need that extra reach beyond 70mm. While its size and weight might be a consideration for some, the optical performance and versatility it offers make it a worthy investment for professionals.

Fantastic Lens
By Derrick S.
This is an amazing lens. I haven't had a chance to use it in the field yet, but I am eager to make it happen.
The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is the world's first 24-105mm focal length lens combined with consistent f/2.8 aperture. With its constant f/2.8 max aperture, full-frame coverage, and its ability to zoom past the traditional 70mm roadblock to a true portrait-length 105mm, this lens is an incredible standard zoom solution for many different applications. An optional, dedicated Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 transforms the video operation possibilities with its smooth and versatile zooming. Even in low light, this lens will excel for weddings and events, photojournalism, portraiture, studio work, and video creation.
Outstanding Optical Performance with Consistent f/2.8 Maximum Aperture
By taking advantage of the large diameter RF mount and short back focus, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is able to achieve a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its entire zoom range. This enables you to continuously shoot up to the frequently used 105mm without switching lenses, opening a world of possibilities for both photo and movie shooting.
Supports Optional Canon Power Zoom Adapters
The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z crosses the worlds of photography and movies. The optional Power Zoom Adapters PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B enable smooth, high-precision zoom control during movie shooting. Plus, attachment and detaching can be managed without the use of a special tool. The Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2B comes equipped with a 20-pin port for compatibility with cinema or broadcast lens accessories such as zoom servo grip or focus demand. This lens and Power Zoom Adapter combination makes unassisted single-person video shooting operation easy and within reach.
Eleven Aperture Blades for Rich Bokeh
With eleven aperture blades and a large f/2.8 aperture, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z produces a beautiful, almost circular bokeh effect - even when stopped-down. The wide aperture also allows for faster shutter speeds in low light situations and helps prevent subject blurs.
Iris Ring for Precise Lens Aperture Control
The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is equipped with an iris ring (aperture control), the first among RF lenses. This allows video users to manually control exposure adjustment and the degree of background blur while shooting video, with click-less, smooth operation similar to the operability in a cinema lens.
Close-focusing to Under 1.5 ft., Max. Magnification 0.29x
With a minimum focusing distance of approximately 1.5 ft./0.45m, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z lens helps you get close to your subjects. The maximum magnification is 0.29x at 105mm, allowing you to capture subtle details more expansively and clearly. Focus shifts during zooming are minimal - plus, it supports focus breathing correction3, in which the camera digitally corrects for changes in angle of view caused by focus movement during video recording, especially during closeup shooting.
Optical Image Stabilization
For consistently sharp results, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z features built-in optical Image Stabilization, providing enhanced shake reduction for up to 5.5 stops of shake correction. When paired with an EOS R-series camera that has In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS allows for up to 8.0 stops of correction4. This means more reliable handheld performance and clear detail in low-light situations, without having to increase the ISO or decrease the shutter speed. Additionally, an IS Mode switch is featured for the first time among Canon RF standard zoom lenses.
Nano USM Maintains Focus While Zooming
The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z features two Nano USM (ultrasonic motors) focus drive system, powering both its autofocus, and its "floating" optics which move independently to ensure maximum image quality. Nano USM provides quiet and smooth AF, especially useful during movie recording. In addition, the Nano USM maintains focus while zooming to suppress aberration fluctuations during high-speed burst or movie shooting.
Excellent Handling
With its fixed-length lens barrel design and balanced center of gravity, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z provides excellent handling for any shooting style and especially advantageous when using accessories for shooting video. The lens comes with a tripod mount that can be easily attached and detached with a lock release button, without the need of a special tool. Also available is the LH-E1 lens holder (sold separately), which supports the lens when combining with a rig.
Durable and Dependable Build
The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z boasts amazing durability and endurance you'd expect from an L-series lens. The lens barrel does not move during zooming or focusing; both are achieved entirely internally. Weather-resistant sealing is applied to areas such as the operation rings and switch panel to help prevent water and dust from entering the unit. Fluorine coating is applied on the front lens to prevent water, oil and other surface residue like fingerprints from sticking to the lens, which facilitates quick and easy wiping without the use of solvents. This dust- and water-resistant design allows for outstanding performance even in inclement weather conditions.
