Impressed with the size weight and aperture of this lens as well as the sharpness of the images even at f1.4. It's use for both video and photo is what drew me to this lens and so far it has delivered in both aspects.

I love this lens. It's company, yet I get great quality pictures and videos. I have it paired up with my R5c camera and DJI Ronin 3 Pro

Extremely lightweight with fantastic image quality. If you shoot c-raw, all the distortion is corrected. Don't listen to everyone complaining and moaning. It's not quite on par with the EF 35 ii optically, but it comes with a MASSIVE weight and cost savings, especially once you factor in the adapter for the EF version.

Its about time Canon releases new L prime lenses like this one. But it was worth it: It has a very beautiful character and bokeh, and it is very sharp. AF super fast, accurate and silent. It comes with few cons: some aberration and distortion, which can be both corrected easily.

The speed of the autofocus on this new lens is simply cheetah-like in comparison to the EF 35mm f/1.4 L II version, which until now was one of my favorite and most frequently used lenses. That lens now seems like the inevitable victim of prey which is about to meet its demise because of its sluggishness upon comparison. It's also slightly sharper than the EF 35mm f/1.4 L II, significantly lighter in weight, and of course much more convenient as there is no longer a need for an adapter. To my pleasant surprise, the design and material texture of this new lens is also more striking than I expected. Overall, it gives the tangible feel of a significant upgrade that justifies the cost.

This was an incredible letdown. I had been waiting for just this exact lens for so long. I received it and loved the size and weight. The loose, clunking elements annoyed me some, but when poor quality of the standalone, uncorrected photos, I heart sank. I returned it the very next day. This is the worst L glass on the RF mount by far. Sad day. Shame on canon.

Absolutely remarkable lens from Canon. As a full-time wedding photographer who primarily shoots with primes (35mm, 50mm, 85mm), I have eagerly awaited this lens since Canon introduced their Mirrorless body offerings. I absolutely adore the RF 50mm 1.2 and the 85mm 1.2. They are truly amazing lenses, and the RF 35mm 1.4 is an exceptional addition to the trio. The image quality of the new 35mm is outstanding in every way, from the sharpness at both the center and edges to the natural color rendition. However, what I appreciate most is the weight reduction of this lens. As I approach 40, carrying heavy lenses for a 10-hour wedding day has become quite a chore. While 2 pounds for a lens might not seem significant, it really is when you're holding that, along with an R3 and a speedlite, to your face for 10 hours. I have always envied my friends with Sony lenses because they are lighter, but now with Canon's lighter offerings, I am thrilled. The iconic Canon colors and glass, is something I and many others have loved for years, but now with the additional weight savings that love grows stronger. These lighter lenses not only reduce fatigue throughout the day but also allow me to position my camera in ways that were previously impossible due to ligament and joint strain. And Canon, if you happen to read this, please, please, please release lighter L lenses in 50mm and 85mm. As a wedding professional, I would much rather take a light 1.4 over a heavy 1.2 any day. Keep up the great work! JT

The RF35mm F1.4 L VCM is an entirely new L-series lens, targeting a wide range of still-image and video shooters, with a combination of very moderate wide-angle coverage, a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, and excellent optical design.
On a full frame camera this lens gives you a slightly wide-angle look which has for decades been used in photojournalism and street photography, and has become a very popular wedding shoot look.
On the video side, this lens really shines with a dedicated manual Iris ring, and a new linear focus motor called a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) that is virtually silent.
The VCM works in tandem with a Nano USM on the floating focus unit for incredibly fast autofocus.
And finally, focus breathing is barely noticeable on this incredibly versatile lens.
This lens has a lot going for it. You already know about the new VCM and Iris control ring, but there is so much more. You can attach filters to this lens in two ways, a front 67mm screw thread allows for screw-on filters, and in the back of the lens is a cut gel filter holder (bundled).
You also have a control ring and a control button both of which you can assign functions to. This lens is also dust and weather resistant, has two aspheric lenses, and ASC (Air Sphere Coating) to reduce ghosting.
The RF35mm F1.4 L VCM is part of a series of “hybrid” lenses that focus on video performance as much as still photography. One of these new features is a change to how the focus system works. There is a Nano USM that controls the floating focus unit, and a new VCM (Voice Coil Motor) that powers the rear focus unit.
Again, thanks to the Canon RF lens mount, the RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens offers great optical quality. Its optical design includes two UD lenses and two aspheric lenses as well as Air Sphere Coating (ASC) to reduce ghosting, and Fluorine coating on the front and rear lens surfaces to help mitigate smudges.
On top of that, this lens features the same dust- and water-resistance found on L-series lenses with seals around the Control ring, focus ring, zoom ring, operation panel, and lens mount.
With a minimum focus distance of just under 11 inches , and an f/1.4 aperture you can capture some really compelling imagery that is unlike anything else.
Under the banner of Canon's prestigious L-series, the RF 35mm f/1.4 L VCM lens emerges as a groundbreaking tool for photographers and videographers alike. This lens is expertly crafted to cater to a wide range of creative needs, offering a harmonious blend of moderate wide-angle coverage and a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture. Ideal for full-frame cameras, it provides a slightly wide-angle perspective, making it a quintessential choice for photojournalism, street photography, and the ever-growing field of wedding photography.
On the video side, the RF 35mm f/1.4 L VCM lens is equipped with a dedicated manual iris ring and a cutting-edge linear focus motor, the VCM (Voice Coil Motor), which ensures near-silent operation. This motor works in tandem with a Nano USM on the floating focus unit to deliver lightning-fast autofocus, while minimizing focus breathing, making it a versatile asset for any visual storyteller.
The lens is packed with advanced features, including dual filter attachment options: a front 67mm screw thread for traditional filters and a rear cut gel filter holder. Its customizable control ring and button allow photographers to tailor lens functions to their specific needs. Built with two aspheric lenses and an ASC (Air Sphere Coating) to reduce ghosting, the lens is also dust and weather-resistant, ensuring durability in various shooting conditions.
Part of Canon's innovative "hybrid" series, this lens is designed to excel in both video and still photography. The focus system is powered by a Nano USM controlling the floating focus unit and a new VCM driving the rear focus unit, working together to achieve remarkable speed and silence. The RF 35mm f/1.4 L VCM lens promises outstanding image quality, featuring two UD lenses, two aspheric lenses, and a Fluorine coating on the front and rear surfaces to resist smudges.
With a manual iris control ring for seamless aperture transitions from f/1.4 to f/16 during video capture, and a minimum focus distance of just under 11 inches, this lens empowers you to create striking imagery that truly stands out. Whether capturing the vibrancy of a bustling street or the intimate moments of a wedding, the RF 35mm f/1.4 L VCM lens is your gateway to exceptional visual storytelling.
