The lens is great, but the autofocus is terrible. Makes a lot of noise and it's very slow to react. I have a difficult time working in servo af with this lens.

This lens is so flexible. I can use it in so many different situations. With the f1.2 aperture, I can achieve beautiful bokeh and shoot in low light environments. It is a great complement to the RF 24-70 F2.8L lens.

Recently moved from dlsr to mirrorless. The 50mm was one of the first of my purchases. Based on numerous positive reviews, this lens has proven to be a wise investment. Very satisfied with the purchase.

Is it expensive? YES. It's also the best and sharpest lens I own. The 1.2 aperture has allowed me to get great shots in low light that are tack sharp. The colors are stunning and it performs spectacularly. I can't say enough good things about this lens. It's worth the money.

The quick and simple: The RF 50mm f/1.2 USM L is an absolutely amazing lens that produces shots like no others, primarily thanks to its ability to absolutely decimate backgrounds, giving any subject shot at f/1.2 and almost 3D like appearance. It does have a a very few minor drawbacks (price, weight, chromatic aberration, "noisy" focus for filming), but if you have the means, this lens is 100% worth it, and then some! Longer take: As mentioned above (and by almost every reviewer), this lens is simply incredible. The image quality is superb, with the sharpness being fully present right from f/1.2. This is the fastest lens I've ever owned (the closest being a 1.8, and I thought that was amazing!). This of course translates to many things, but I can't stress enough how much this lens absolutely obliterates backgrounds with some of the smoothest and creamiest bokeh you will ever see! This really does give the impression that subjects are popping out of your photos, creating a 3D like effect. This is especially neat, when you also realize that this lens has the ability to also create shots that have an almost "painted" feeling/quality to them as well. I took one shot of a white camellia floating on water that reminded me of a Rembrandt still life. The build quality if what you would expect from a canon L series lens (sturdy, solid, heavy, etc...). The f/1.2 also lends itself to making a great tool for night/low-light photography! Although the lens doesn't have built in IS, I had no problem taking sharp handheld low light pics at 1/30 ISO 100-200; although this is probably thanks to the IS built into my R5 as well. Despite how glorious this lens is, there are a few drawbacks that people should be aware of. I don't think these are things that would detract people form purchasing this lens, but they are things that a potential buyer should be aware of, as it could possibly lead to a fair amount of disappointment if these issues are discovered post-purchase: Obviously, the entry price is quite high, there's no way around that fact. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if it weren't for two things: no IS and presence of chromatic aberration. No IS is probably primarily due to the sheer size of this lens (aka glass it has to move/use), so I can understand it not really having it built in. You would just think that for this price, Canon would find a way to incorporate it, seeing as they are able to do so for almost every other lens they currently have on the market (and I'm sure there will be an updated version eventually with it available). Again, this isn't too much of an issue, primarily thanks to f/1.2, which allows to shoot pretty easily in low light settings. What I have a harder time with is the amount of chromatic aberration. It isn't atrocious, but it is definitely still present. This may be a non-issue for some, but I'm not a fan at all, and it always jumps out at me. Granted, its generally easily revolved by removing it in post, but I was still surprised to see it there, especially when all of my other L series lenses (including two other primes) do not have this issue at all. The weight of this lens is something that should be taken into account as well. I'm an early 30s, athletic male, and even I get tired of carrying this lens after a few hours. This is definitely not your "grab and go" nifty-50. I have used it on different day trips since getting it, and although I can do so, my wrist/elbow aren't a huge fan by the end of the day. Again, not a dealbreaker for me personally, but something that people should be aware of if they plan to use this lens as, say; their primary travel lens. Finally, the focus is noticeably audible. Obviously, Canon wasn't able to use their nano USMs for such a large amount of glass, which isn't an actual issue until you need to film something. I am a photographer first and foremost, but I do enjoy shooting the occasional video. Although the video produced is as equally impressive as the photos, don't plan on using the sound from the footage, unless you want to hear the constant focusing "clunks" from the motor (alternative would be to use an external mic). Again, not a big issue for me at all, but it may be for others. All this said, this lens is phenomenal, despite its few drawbacks. The quality of the images it produces are worth the entry price alone, as it truly feels like a magical lens! It has now become my "constantly-on" lens, only to be swapped for lenses based on intended use (ie telephoto, macro, wide-angle, etc...). The entry price may hurt for a while, but it will quickly fade into a distant memory once you start capturing truly magical shots thanks to this lens. Do yourself a favor, and just buy it, and you too can partake in its glory! : )

Great kit wit the filters included! now the lens well what is there to say it's an RF, a 50 and 1.2! Great crisp, fast lens that I could probably shoot in complete darkness at 1.2! It definitely is a little pricey but that look you get!

The RF 50mm F1.2 L is a seriously good prime lens for photographers. This new version is bigger and better optically, and it's also more expensive. If you're buying an EOS R5 and love the idea of a fast 50mm lens, the F1.2 L should be on your short list. In addition to impressive image quality, the Canon RF 50mm F1.2 has professional-grade build quality and fast, very accurate AF. The Pros: - Solid build quality and good handling despite the size - Very accurate autofocus - Exceptional sharpness right from f/1.2 - Beautiful, creamy bokeh - Very good control of chromatic aberration - Almost no distortion - Excellent color and contrast - Multipurpose: fashion, portraiture, weddings, documentary, street, lifestyle, sports, architecture, landscape, commercial, around-the-home, and general photography The RF 50mm f/1.2L is big and heavy, and it is extremely expensive, but it is also the best normal lens I?ve ever had the pleasure to shoot with. A truly outstanding lens!

Okay I?m gonna start off with saying I wish I didn?t borrow this lens from my friend. I shoot with an R5/R6, and use the adapted EF 50mm f/1.2 but after using this lens I have to say it?s worth the price of admission. The EF is an amazing lens but the RF is taking that lens and putting it on steroids. Sure the size of the EF is smaller but once adapted, not by much. The RF is so much faster in focusing, it?s sharp through the aperture range, probably maxes out the pixels of the R6 by f/2. If I had to nitpick anything there is a very noticeable vignette wide open, but that?s not uncommon for a wide aperture lens. And me personally, I don?t use the control ring for much on any RF lens. I used to have it set for white balance, I tried it for aperture (like I do on my fuji camera, and I find I?m just bumping it too easily. Now I?m waiting on a client check to arrive so I can add this to the kit!

The lens works wonderfully When I used it with no flash.. however maybe I had a bad copy, the lens seemed like it was communicating any information to the camera because I rarely made a successful picture that I like when using flash? for that reason, I had to return it.

While I am one of those who favor a 35mm focal length as "normal", I also love the 50mm for it's ability to work as both a "walk around" and "portraiture" lens. This iteration of the focal length doesn't disappoint! I've used the lens under artificial and natural light and look forward to seeing how it performs with flash. So far, I've been more than pleased with it's wide open performance - the bokeh is very pleasing and beats the other 50mm primes I've used. It's also fine at smaller aper...

How can you elevate your photography to new heights The answer lies in the RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens, a high-quality and professional-grade lens that's an essential part of Canon's innovative EOS R full-frame mirrorless system. This advanced lens is designed to deliver crisp, sharp images even in challenging low-light conditions, thanks to its wide maximum aperture of f/1.2. This feature not only enhances light-gathering power but also creates stunning bokeh effects, adding depth and dimension to your photos.

One of its standout features is the tactile control ring located near the front of the lens. This makes it a versatile choice for various photography applications, including portraiture, street shooting, and fine art photography.
The RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens is designed to fully leverage the capabilities of the RF mount. With a large 54mm lens mount, large diameter elements, and closer placement to the image plane, RF lenses deliver brilliant image quality from edge-to-edge with minimal light fallout. This opens up new possibilities for enhanced optics and compact designs.
The lens features a supercharged 12-pin communication system that optimizes data transfer between the camera and lens, ensuring sharp, stable, and responsive performance across a wide range of applications. The lens also incorporates a control ring on the barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings, and a lens information display feature that allows you to confirm the lens's focal length without looking away from your subject.
