A huge upgrade and an ideal camera for birding photography
I purchased this for photography only. There are two essential points that make it stand out: 1) Focus is incredible, particularly for birds in flight. Nearly flawless instrument for still photography
The R5 fixes nearly every gripe I had with previous Canon cameras. At the heart of the EOS R5's exceptional image quality is Canon's all-new 45 Megapixel full-frame sensor. This sensor enables impressive 8K DCI cinematic movie capture and the extraction of 35.4 Megapixel still images. The EOS R5 also boasts a high-speed continuous capture of up to 20 frames-per-second, making it ideal for tracking fast-moving subjects.
The EOS R5 is equipped with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II capability, offering 1,053 Automatic AF zones. This feature simplifies the process of photographing people with Eye, Face, and Head Detection AF. It also intuitively tracks the whole body, face, or eye of cats, dogs, or birds with Animal Detection AF.
The camera's 5-axis in-body image stabilization can effectively compensate for camera shake, providing approximately 8 stops of stabilization with certain non-stabilized and optically image stabilized lenses. The EOS R5 also includes connectivity options like 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The EOS R5 camera employs the DIGIC X Image Processor, which enhances the speed of operations across the board. This processor allows for fast, efficient performance and phenomenal image quality. The camera also offers an ISO range of 100-51200, expandable to 102400, making it ideal for shooting in varied and fast-changing lighting situations.
The EOS R5 camera's Dual Pixel CMOS AF system features an incredible 1,053 Automatic AF zones that can be designated as auto-focus focal points. This ensures higher-precision Eye Detection AF, allowing you to focus on the desired AF point with speed, accuracy, and ease.
The EOS R5 camera is capable of recording 8K movies (uncropped, at up to 29.97 fps) - a first for Canon full-frame mirrorless cameras. 4K video shooting is also possible at up to 119.9fps, in 4:2:2 10-bit (H.265) Canon Log, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF is available in all 8K and 4K modes.
The EOS R5 is Canon's first camera to incorporate 5-axis IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization). This feature not only enhances the ability to shoot still images at slower shutter speeds but also helps reduce camera shake when shooting movies.
The EOS R5 camera features a high-precision 0.5-inch OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) EVF with approx. 5.76 million dots and a 23mm eyepoint. The camera also features a 3.15-inch, 2.1 Megapixel Clear View LCD II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD, making it easy to compose and shoot from virtually any angle.
The EOS R5 camera now supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi communication - a first for EOS mirrorless cameras. This feature allows users to easily perform high-speed FTP data transfer between the camera and a smart device using the free Canon Camera Connect app.
