I've enjoyed taking photos for decades(5), R5 is by far my favorite for a number of reasons but mostly its ability to deep beautiful clarity and colors. Low light photos to bright sunny days wow is all I can say. Not a professional photographer, but this camera has renewed my desire to take more pictures.

Near perfect image quality and functionality. Great ergonomics and design. A bit overpriced so it's definitely not unreasonable to choose some cheaper counterparts with similar quality.

Bought this in March 2024 after having focus issues with the mark 4. I thought because it was more expensive it would be better. This camera was SO amazing the first 4 months and then BOOM. The focus sensor stops working. This was after a failed brand new mark 4 and now an upgrade to this mirrorless. I don't make enough money to continue to repair and replace these cameras every year. I have moderate use on cameras and always keep them in a cushioned travel case. I have been a photographer for 8 years and I shot on the mark 3 for 7 years. This is not a user error issue. When I sent my r5 to get looked at, the focus sensor was misaligned and that was what was causing the issue. They said it was fixed but I haven't noticed any difference.

Takes some really great photos. However the eye detection is not a "cure all". It takes lots of practice to capture birds in flight. Definitely a learning curve.

This is the best and most expensive camera I have ever owned. Great overall and never had any issues except for the sensor giving out after only 13 months with light usage. I'm an enthusiast who takes care of my equipment so there was no reason why the sensor would give out after that amount of time. Perhaps I've been lucky in the past but I've Canons throughout and not a single one has had this severe an issue. Of course it wasn't covered by warranty. With the amount of money I've sunk into this camera, I don't see getting something else unless another major repair is needed. I really do like the R5 but I'm always anxious that it's going to give out at the least optimal time.

The camera works decent. However for the price you would think they would cover their products for more than a year. But no, unlike Swarovski unmatched backing of the quality of their products, you get a measly 1 year warranty unless you opt in to pay even more. Beware of using the tripod mount. I used it with a camera cage to product my camera body, but eventually the metal threads gave out and broke. Cheap magnesium? Who knows but I am beyond annoyed that this defect is not covered. This will be my last Canon purchase. You become average when your warranty doesn't back the quality of your products.

While the upgraded features for the R5 II are really nice, bang for the buck, the original R5 cannot be beat. After reading many reviews that mentioned overheating and/or shutting down, I was a bit hesitant to plop down cash for what would be the most expensive camera I have ever purchased. I can now say that I have had ZERO such issues. I did several torture test just to see how the camera would respond. First up was continuous video recording using a Canon OEM battery and two other off-brand batteries. Drained all three of them with the only shutdowns coming when the battery charge dropped too low to power the camera. I have even left it out in the sun with power on all afternoon when the temps were in the mid 90's and still not a hint of an issue. Just kept shooting (recording on both cards at the same time) and waiting for hours on end to see if it would crash. In spite of the harsh conditions, the R5 continued to performed flawlessly. Perhaps these results are from the latest firmware update, cannot say one way or the other but I can attest that the R5 is just as reliable as my old 90D and every other Canon camera I have owned in the past.

Camera is amazing as expected. While all the new features on the Mark II are nice, bang for the buck can't miss with the original R5. Shipping was super fast as well with package arriving a day sooner than expected. The one issue with the purchase is the card reader. Not only have I used it with the included SanDisk card, I have also used it with two other cards. In each instance, it gets so hot that it shuts down within a minute or two. The only way to access the files is to place the reader and card inside a plastic bag then dunk it in a bowl of ice. Otherwise, it will lock up and stop reading/writing completely. Fortunately, none of the cards have heated to the point of causing harm but now, I make sure to have the ice and bag ready before using the reader with any CF Express card. Even with the poor quality of the reader, the price is still a great deal, especially when considering what the R5 cost when it first hit the market.

Love it ! Images are crisp and sharp. SanDisk CFexpress card is fast. I also, own an R7 so, it's taking a little time to get used to slight differences in placement of controls and menu but, this presents only a minor problem as I learn the R5. So far, I'm very happy with the camera. I'd been waiting for a significant price drop and since I do very little video, I don't need the enhanced video capabilities of later models. I'm very glad I made the purchase. While the camera was the same price from all reputable stores and most offered free "ad ons", Adorama included something I actually needed: a quality CFExpress Card (SanDisk128) and a dual CF+SD card reader !! Adorama's reputation, free , timely shipping and useful "add ons" cinched my decision to buy from Adorama.

Very happy with the R5 and memory card, however the Green Extreme card reader included with this bundle is alarmingly poor. Not only did it excessively overheat (could burn to the touch), it failed to properly transfer files to the computer, and caused crashes with lightroom. I have replaced this unit with a Lexar USB-C Type B card reader and have none of the above listed problems.

I bought the R5 body and lens mount bundle as my 6D Mark II was getting old. They came promptly and exactly as expected. I am able to use my EF lenses and they fit snuggly! I shoot events but love wildlife and wanted a full size sensor for the shots that matter. The R5 With 45 mpx crops nicely for birds so it handles everything I need in one camera body.

Nice camera. Layout is ok. Menu is great, functions are outstanding. Happy with the fact it has an audio recorder for photo journal work. Really sad it's only 72 dpI... really Canon? You already know the standard for print work is 300 dpi. (which the R6 MK II has!) Just another tactic to force us into a buying a better, more expensive camera body.. Your multiple tactics to force us into making you more money sickens me. Just like forced canon lenses because you won't release the data for others to create the RF mounts.

Coming from FILM days and DSLRs, R5 imaging and camera capabilities are superior. Learning to use the full gamut is worth the effort ! Digital manual takes patience. All the other Canon support bridges some gaps....THANKS

This camera is great at some things like low light and focus, however it is super buggy, throwing error codes, over heating, and excessive battery usage to just name a few faults. These deep flaws in high pressure situations have left me questioning my trust in canon as a whole and turning to my more dated however reliable 5D Mark IV in situations where I need TRUST. All recent generations of canon products have been faulty in both camera and lighting. I suggest if you are not invested into this system and starting out to look into more reliable systems. I have been a professional photographer since 2003 and.a canon user my entire career. I don't say this lightly. I am disappointed at the highest level regarding quality.

I've had my eye on this camera for a while. So when it was put on sale, I decided to stop waiting. I'm still getting used to the features but I will say this: the legendary autofocus does not disappoint. Paired with the 50mm f1.2 lens, the camera is an absolute dream in low light conditions. Once I finish putting the camera through its paces creating photos I will use it for video; more to come on that. The 45MP sensor is one of the main reasons I bought the camera. I need to be able to produce large-format prints that are still sharp. The one odd thing about buying this kit is that the free XPLOR 100 Pro that came in the package is white, not black. Not that big a deal but I was a little bit disappointed when I opened the box. Again, not the end of the world, though.

A huge upgrade and an ideal camera for birding photography
By RossMcK
I purchased this for photography only. There are two essential points that make it stand out: 1) Focus is incredible, particularly for birds in flight. Birds in the bush requires using two-button back-button focusing, but that works pretty well. Much better than the EOS R. 2) Resolution: I shoot birds, so often I'm extracting a small bird from a large screen. The resolution is incredible, a reflection of the high megapixel count, but combined with precise focus, the effect is incredibly sa...

Nearly flawless instrument for still photography
By GarlandCary
The R5 fixes nearly every gripe I had with previous Canon cameras. It's built exceptionally well, handles intuitively with excellent overall control placement (hurray for three-dial exposure control, the death of the multi-function control bar and the return of the AF joystick!), is hushed in operation, has an excellent (electronic) viewfinder, shoots quickly when needed, colors are romanticized without straying too far from reality, (finally) raw files have enough dynamic range to handle hig...

At the heart of the EOS R5 lies a new 45 Megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, powered by the DIGIC X Image Processor. This combination ensures fast, efficient performance and phenomenal image quality, perfect for large prints, impressive 4K and groundbreaking 8K video recording.
The EOS R5 stands out with its high-speed continuous shooting capabilities, capturing up to 12 fps with a mechanical shutter and up to 20 fps with an electronic (silent) shutter. This makes it an ideal choice for capturing dynamic action photos of athletes, animals, or vehicles in motion.
The camera's Dual Pixel CMOS AF system features an impressive 1,053 Automatic AF zones, ensuring higher-precision Eye Detection AF and allowing you to focus on the desired AF point with speed, accuracy, and ease. The expansive focus area covers approximately 100% of the frame horizontally and vertically when working with select RF and EF lenses, ensuring fast and impressive focusing even when composing your subject far from the center of the frame.
The EOS R5 is the first Canon EOS camera in the Mirrorless series to feature a powerful DIGIC X Image Processor, which helps to enhance fine detail in your image. With an ISO range of 100-51200, expandable to 102400, the EOS R5 camera can shoot at expanded sensitivities, making it ideal for varied and fast-changing lighting situations.
The EOS R5 is also the first Canon Mirrorless camera to offer animal detection, using deep learning technology to effectively track the whole body, face, or eye of cats, dogs, or birds for speed and precision.
For videographers, the EOS R5 offers 8K RAW and 4K up to 120fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 with Canon Log or HDR PQ, and internal recording in all formats, with Auto Focus. The camera's 5-axis in-body image stabilization can effectively compensate for camera shake with approximately 8 stops of stabilization with use of certain non-stabilized, and optically image stabilized lenses.
The EOS R5 also includes dual card slots for CFexpress and UHS-II SD Memory Cards, a built-in 0.5" 5.76 Million Dots OLED EVF with 120 fps refresh rate, and a Vari-angle LCD Touchscreen.
For seamless connectivity, the EOS R5 supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing for high-speed FTP data transfer and easy image transfer to your smart device.
