Light weight, sharp, and fun to shoot.
I've been using this lens for almost a year now. This lens coupled with the R5 makes an exceptional lens for us Florida bird photographers. As with all the big L lenses (I also have the 600 f/4) the image quality is exceptional. The lighter weight makes it pretty easy to hand hold?but the best images come from the tripod. It's not going to be a lens for everyone, but if you're a serious bird photographer you'll love this one.
Super Lightweight.
Lightweight and high quality aren’t generally found on most lenses, but the Canon 800mm super-telephoto lens is the exception. Weighing in at just 6.9 pounds, this lens boasts incredibly high image quality and portability for a super telephoto lens. This lightweight lens isn’t too much to handle. Even in circumstances where a tripod isn’t available, image quality does not have to be sacrificed.
Outstanding Image Quality.
Combining two large-diameter elements provides amazing sharpness and contrast from corner to corner, even at the maximum aperture. One Ultra-low dispersion element positioned in the rear section of the lens will correct chromatic aberration created by magnification optics.
Durable Construction.
Reliably built with Canon’s L-series construction, this lens can withstand the elements for photographers who spend their time shooting in adverse weather conditions. The front element of the lens contains a fluorine coating, which helps keep water, oil, and even fingerprints off the front element of the lens. If this front element does get dirty, it is extremely quick and easy to clean.
Image Stablization.
The RF800mm features an Optical Image Stabilizer system that can provide up to 4.5 stops of shake correction. This helps make sure you get consistently sharp results, regardless of adverse shooting conditions. Even in low light, handheld, or on a monopod, you can expect top performance and clear image detail.
Compatible With Extenders.
If 800mm isn’t enough for you, this lens is compatible with two different Canon extenders, including the RF1.4X and RF2X Extender. Using these extenders, you can reach an incredible 1120mm at f/11, or 1600mm at f/16.
