I've had this lens for over a year now and it's one of my favorite lenses. I went back-and-forth about purchasing it originally because of the price, but it is so worth it!

The RF85mm should be an essential piece of glass to your bag, especially if you do portrait and weddings. The DS adds sharpness to the Bokeh/out of focus areas. Nice touch!

Wow, amazing lens and where I live in Texas. That little bit of light loss is perfectly acceptable, but get the normal one if you're looking for maximum low light capability. The creamy bokeh is second to none.

I fully and happily admit to being addicted to bokeh and have owned every previous iteration of this cannonball lens. This one...the 85mm f/1.2 L DS...is like a dream, both in its performance and its results. The depth of field is razor-thin, something that is simply a learning curve issue. Once mastered, the image is spectacular and the bokeh is simply jaw-dropping. It's a heavy lens, but not too much so. I like the heft...it feels solid. Yes, it's expensive, but if you can swing it, I feel strongly that you will be very happy with it.

Okay, first off don?t be afraid of the 1.3 stop light loss. Any R system camera runs perfectly fine in low light to make it not matter. This lens is stunning, the clearest glass I?ve ever looked through, and that bokeh is worth every penny.

I was on the fence for so long about which version of this lense to purchase...The Regular 85mm 1.2 or the DS Defocus Smoothing) version. I struggled with the 1/3 loss of light due to the coating which makes The DS version Special. Guess what? Its so small you dont even notice. And the result is like...SPECTACULAR. As a professional it's the subtleties that make all the difference. And sometimes that difference can seal a deal, it can please a very important eye or simple Capture an image in a manner that is so stunning you forget how much you paid for the lens. If you want to know if this lense is worth the hype? It is. Buy it, you wont regret it.

Uff! 85mm is amazing wide open. I have the 50mm 1.2 as well but I favor the compression of this lens!

This is the 1st RF lens I purchased for the new R5. Very happy about the result: the eyes were tack sharp, while the background is dreaming creamy. Excellent color contrast, better than any of the lenses I owned before switching brand. Highly recommended!

I had this lens for a few weeks to decide to move from Nikon to Canon. It was used with an R5 in swimming contests and portraits. This combination exceeded my expectations with a wonderful bokeh and low light performance. This made my decision easier. AF is fast and accurate, better than anything I used before. I recommend this lens for portrait, sports and work photography. .

I loved the EF 85 1.2L and on my new R5 system, this RF (w/ DS) version is absolutely Amazing! I went back and forth between the version with DS and the version without, and even though the Ds version is more expensive, that's what became available first, and i jumped on it. NO regret at all! It's absolutely stunning. I got the RF 50 1.2 as well, and while it's a great lens also, this RF 85 1.2 DS has become my primary lens.

One of the very best Canon RF lenses. I use it for in-studio portrait photography at the widest open aperture, resulting in stunning background blur and transforming the background color patches into soft focus bokeh. It is heavily built like other 85mm f/1.2 lenses, but that is not a concern for me. I do not use it in low light conditions, where other RF lenses like 70-200mm f/2.8 do better.

This series of RF lens help generate absolutely stunning photos. I use the 50 mm more than my 85 mm, but they are equally gorgeous lenses with no distortions. Heavy lens. If used wide open, even a mild angling of a subject's face will have one eye in focus and one eye out of focus!
