Review Summary

I bought this model as I needed to update because my old camera's abilities were lagging. Fits well in the hands, has weight, yet light. I have been more happy with the picture quality. The auto detect feature is on point and works really well. I used it to take pictures for a wedding a month ago, and 90%+ pictures were crisp and clean. The only con is the shutter can lag when taking several pictures in a row. If you want a mirrorless camera that doesn't break the bank, yet provides great quality. I highly recommend.

I bought this camera when it first came out back in early 2019. It came as a bundle with the RF 24-105 F4 L IS USM lens. To this day, it's still the best lens I have ever owned and I regret selling it. As for the camera, the thing that drew me to it is that it was the first generation of offerings by Canon into the world of full frame mirrorless, right alongside the EOS R. It was as compact as many film SLR's from the 1970s instead of the size of big clunky DSLR's, which was enticing to me. Although the camera was great at the time, if you are purchasing it today brand new, it is starting showing its age. The viewfinder can be a little small and dim at times, especially in bright sunlight, and the sensors dynamic range leaves a little bit to be desired. However, if the camera goes on sale, which it does often enough, it can still be an amazing bargain for first timers or those looking for an affordable back up body.

Always remember to bring a spare battery. If you're taking lots of shots and spending a lot of time, bring two. Still haven't figured out Fv mode, but I usually use manual mode.

This was a huge step up from our Canon rebel, I wanted a camera to take photos of our newborn and this has been fantastic. It's also small and light which will be great as he grows up. It's very easy to use and the eye detection works great.

I bought this camera back in 2023 and I've had a great experience with it! I do primarily portraits (indoors and outdoors) and product photography. I was surprised how well it worked in low lighting. The kit lens works very well! I have a few photographer friends who hate on kit lenses but the 24-105mm kit lens worked just fine for me for the longest time. I still use it on occasion, but I have purchased the 24-70mm, 50mm, and 100mm lenses to be utilized with the camera as well.

I brought this camera a week ago and I'm kind of regretting it. The Panasonic G7 which I believe was launched 5 years before the RP comes out ahead of the camera and the RP has electronics and components that is worlds advanced than the G7 yet the camera exactly drastically under performs a camera that is 5 years older than it. For example RP has a max burst rate of 5fps the G7 has 8.1 fps RP has a max rate of 24fps in k4 without dual pixel autofocus and the the G7 does k4 in 30fps The RP when focused on a blue sky kind of washes out the blue and looks a lot whiter the g7 has a much more beautiful blue color. Both cameras have roller shutter effect and banding but it's less noticeable on the G7, unfortunately neither camera have a log profile but using custom settings you get a lot more flexibility with the G7 The G7 basically leaps ahead in many aspects to a newer camera. To which I believe a lot of it is held back at the firmware level. I can't understand why canon won't push the camera at the firmware level as much as possible because after studying the hardware the digic 8 processor has the capabilities to offer everything the camera does not have. The RP could beat the competition in many ways and become a very powerful entry level full frame camera that's affordable. But currently it falls to last place against many weaker cameras that this camera should be able to beat but doesn't. Hoping canon launches a new firmware that enables the camera to reach its full potential .

I bought my Canon EOS RP camera in December of 2023. It stopped working a few weeks ago. I had trouble with it a few months ago also. I have sent it to Canon for repair. It was well taken care of. I am a semi professional photographer. I expected a much greater longevity.

I purchased this camera for small product stills and 360 spins along with the Canon 24-105 F4-7.1 lens. I've been very happy with this combination - it was easy to get up-to-speed and works very well in a tethered configuration. Our customers compliment us regularly on the quality of our product photos.

I've had this camera for about a month now, I'm enjoying it a lot my first ever camera was a canon Rebel T7, then I got a EOS R10 was happy with it but didn't feel it was for me, so I sold the R10 and got a Sony A6400 liked the camera as well but still didn't feel like it was the right camera, so sold that as well eventually I saw the RP I know it's older than the R10 but it was full frame camera and that's what I was honestly looking for and it was still affordable, I take pictures for my church and I've used all 3 cameras and I'm liking the RP the most out of all of them

The Canon RP is my first full frame camera and my first canon camera. The first thing I noticed is the beautiful colors. I use the camera to photograph friends, family, wildlife, and landscapes. It's not the fastest but it makes sense at this price point. The kit lens is good enough to get excellent quality images. I picked the RP over the R6 because it is lighter. As soon as my budget permits, I will be upgrading to the r8 because it's light too.

The bad: So far I can't get it to work with third party lenses. The camera and adapter seem to treat a third party full frame lens like it's an ef-s lens by only allowing it to shoot in 1.6 crop factor mode. Also it will not get exposure and color balance correct. This is disappointing since I can't use my favorite lens on it. The good: It works flawlessley with my Canon EF and EF-S lenses. This is not a sports and action camera so keep your expectations in check. It's been easy to transition from my EOS bodies to this and it's nice to have a lightweight, more compact camera to carry around. The focusing is fast and accurate which I cant say for my 6D. I'm loving the connectivity with the Canon Camera Connect APP. It's very easy to quickly connect and transfer images straight to my phone for instant social media purposes. For the price this is a great entry in to full-frame mirrorless, and not to worry if you have a lot of Canon EF glass, they work perfectly.

Plusses: Use of legacy EOS L-series and other EF lenses with adapter. Full frame imager. Minuses: Less robust build quality to previous DSLR generations. Dead pixels. Poor internal surge protection when using AC adaptor for webcam (fried my camera and it no longer works). Cost of repair higher than value of a 3 year old camera. I also own an "R" model and was also sorely disappointed with it, too. Vertical line in the center of the imager required replacement. Repair cost 60% of purchasing a new one. Early adopting of technology not advised. Imagine the newer models (2022/23) better than this early generation.

I bought this camera to upgrade the technology to a mirrorless camera. I have a Canon 6D camera and I felt as if I didn't downgrade in functionality because this camera had all the functionality and then some. This camera came with the 24-105 lens. My Canon 6D had GPS receiver built in to geotag the images. The RP didn't have this functionality so I bought a Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2 because I like to geotag all my photos. The receiver goes on the hot shoe and it is very easy to set up. It worked very well. The flip out screen is definitely a game changer and that was another main reason to buy the camera. I took some pictures with the Mode Dial set to "Scene Intelligent Auto" and found the pictures came out really good. I just left the dial there, concentrating on composing the shoot. It is a great travel camera as it is small and light. I brought with me on a bike tour of Paris. In my opinion it is the best bank for the buck.

I knew what I was getting going into with this purchase. I was looking for an entry level, full frame camera that had a good set of lenses that I could grow into with better camera bodies down-the-line. The rp fit this bill perfectly. I will continue to use my other systems for sports and high speed shooting. But I am enjoying the rp for general photography. The ability to easily pack the rp body, an rf50f1.8, and F4 L series 24-105 and 70-200 zoom lenses in only a little more space than my M43 gear is a huge bonus. The camera body is straightforward and easy to use. The Jpeg images are great out of camera, and there is some flexibility in the raw files, which is not very important to me, as I don't do a lot of post processing, but I can push it a little bit when I need to. I wish the 4k video wasn't intentionally crippled with contrast detect focus. I am used to that using M43, although the better models have phase detect, so I can work with it pretty well, and the Dual pixel system with 1080 works very well. Otherwise not much to criticize here. It would be great if the camera had ibis, and I wish it had 1 or 2 more buttons on it that could be programmed ( I miss a dedicated iso button, but use the lens control ring for that). I can live with the frame rate for what I am using the camera for. This would absolutely be a 5 star rating if the 4K video focus were better and there were a few more direct controls. But I understand it's an entry level camera built to a price point, and I'm glad there are now a number of inexpensive lenses that people could purchase to keep the price down.. In my case I sacrificed a little bit of performance out of the body to be able to purchase the better L-series glass for the camera, it was a wise trade off for me. Overall, for an advanced enthusiast like myself, I am very satisfied with this camera. In a few years I will look forward to upgrading to a higher performing body, but it suits my needs very well at this point. I would highly recommend anybody looking to get into full frame for a reasonable price to look at an RP body.

It?s been about a year since I moved to mirrorless. I owned a t7i and 6D. Loved the color profiles of canon so I decided to stick with the brand. I was between the RP and R. While the R is more suitable for my niche?, I found the RP for a steal. I absolutely fell in love with it. I?m getting into videography more as the time goes by and decided my next upgrade I?m going big with the R5C. While the R5C is a completely different beast of a hybrid. I still see myself using my RP daily. My camera is always attached to my neck literally so the RP is perfect size to use for a second body. For the price, you can?t lose. With some knowledge behind the RP you can definitely produce some professional grade photos. I just had my work published in Canvas Rebel with the help of the critically acclaimed underdog. I?m not sure if the image post with the information attached but if you?re interested in the iso, shutter speed etc. I?m on IG @bdlayers
