Shopper : I'm curious to hear from others that bought this lens. Do you like it? Is it sharp? Is it worth the money? Thanks in advance.BRIANNE R : This lens is on par with the built in lens of the XF100, which is a very nice, clear image. I like it because it adds some range to the camera. It's pretty easy to attach (you screw it onto the built in lens) and remove.DOUGLAS H : I am using this lens on a Canon Vixia HF G10, shooting mostly indoors by ambient room light or stage lighting. The differences in sharpness between video shot with the built in zoom and footage shot with this adapter are so slight as to be unnoticeable. Even when shooting with the lens set at the widest aperture the image is sharp. When the aperture is set higher, say around f.4, there is no loss of sharpness. The only drawback to this lens is the weight. It weighs almost as much as the camera itself! Also, it is a bit pricey, but once you compare video shot with cheaper adapters, it is worth the money. After all, you are paying for genuine Canon glass.KEITH B : I love this converter. I see no loss in quality in the video shot with the lens. It is pricey, but you are paying for the quality of the lens.RICK H : I use it on both an XA10 and XF105. it's usually on one of them all the time. It opens the shot up nicely - not like getting a fish eye lens, of course. The difference is somewhat subtle. It has a very sturdy and well-built feel to it. Is it worth the money? Well, is anything Canon sells attractively priced? :)
Sergey R : Does this lens include lens hood? It's not mentioned here...DOUGLAS H : Yes, it does include a lens hood. The hood is much bigger than the one included with the standard lens. It pushes on and is then secured with a tightening screw.KEITH B : Right after i hit submit i realized i was wrong. It does have a lens hood. DENNIS N : Can you put a filter on this converter? Like a UV or ND fader? Thanks.DOUGLAS H : I just looked at the lens, there is no thread for a filter. The slip on lens cap that comes with the adapter says the outer diameter of the lens is 78.6. Maybe some sort of matte box with drop in filters would work, or a gel filter could be placed in front of the lens shade.RON F : No, I don't see screw treads and it would vignette if anything were put on that close.MICHAEL C : Unfortunately, no. It's a real bummer actually. The lens is nice though.KEITH B : There is no threading on the lens, I'm guessing no.

A MUST HAVE Lens!

This lens is a MUST HAVE lens in your camera bag. I hooked it up to my Vixia HF G20 camera and shot some scenes at the Delaware Water Gap and was blown away by the performance of the lens. Shot at full zoom and full wide and didn't notice a hint of vignetting or other defects just sharp quality images.

Nice Accessory for XF100/XA10

If you shoot conference rooms, meetings, etc. this will open up your shot to encompass more of the room. It's not like using a 14mm lens, but it does pull in a little more of the room and attendees. Not a 'must-have' but definitely a 'nice-to-have' accessory. I did not notice any degradation of the image quality when attached, in fact, I just leave it on most of the time.

Excellent wide angle adapter

I'm using this adapter on the Canon Vixia HF G10. Results are excellent with just the slightest softening of the image and maybe a third of a stop of light loss. The only real downsides to this lens are the weight - it weighs almost as much as the camera - and the price. On the other hand, you get what you pay for: an excellently crafted lens that performs as advertised.

I have been greatly impressed by this wide angle lens, attached to my canon xa10 camcorder. Very clean output, with no visible vignetting at any zoom level. As i struggled so much in getting a clear understanding of the field of view enlargement i could expect before buying it, i decided to publish some test footage with and without the wd-h58w. Canon's WD-H58W 0.8x Wide Converter Lens is optically matched to go with the XA10 HD camcorder, but it is also compatible with other Canon camcorders and can be attached to any lens with a 58mm filter thread. The WD-H58W brings a wider angle of view to your images, for example converting the XA10's 30.4mm lens into 24mm and allowing you to pack more of your subject into the frame. This comes in handy when shooting groups of people, small rooms, or wide landscapes.
