This camera is a beast, and with the firmware update from 2020, I have C-log3 and more control than my GX-10, which is the prosumer model.

I had my eye this camera for over a year with its dual card slots, dual pixel focus, its hdr recording mode and mp4 format it was everything in needed in a small camcorder, xlr audio inputs and control.. and the ability to shoot in 4k should i need it. finally bought and i love love love this camera... now i have my eye on the canon XF 705 i do ENG style documentary work and these cameras fit the bill.

A mini c100 in a camcorder! It has an amazing good picture for a 1 inch camera. And to my surprise matches the c100 without any real modification in post. Its like its meant to be a B cam for it. It can do both a nice video look and a film look however limited in style with no log its pulls off quite alot for a camcorder. Also external record in 4:4:2 10 bit should help make up for lack of internal coloring. What other camera does 10 bit for under 7k in canon world?

I've used the XA 10 and the XA 30, but great cameras, but this XF405 is amazing. I am a breaking news stringer and the 1-inch sensor with the zoom capabilities for this camera have made me a lot of $$$. The difference in the sensor just in low light was worth the money.

it is too small need to bring back an updated version of the XL models essentially a real prosumer camera that is closer to an eng. This is nice for the non professional so don't get me wrong. It is a good camera. But, I still love my XL H1A with a DTE recorder. For the professional it is great especially with the lense choices. I get that many have moved to DSLR but they are deeply flawed when using them for sports or any action and I have edited so much stuff that I have been given with even simple moves that DSLR's have issues. Yes some of that is a shooter issue I get that.

1.0" 4K UHD CMOS Image Sensor
The XF405 Professional Camcorder features a Canon 1.0" 4K UHD CMOS image sensor capable of 4K UHD video capture at 60p and slow motion recording Up to 120fps in Full HD, making the XF405 camcorder a strong contender for professional productions, creative fields and more.
High Sensitivity / Low Noise
The XF405 camcorder's 1.0" sensor allows for larger photosites compared to smaller-sized sensors, resulting in improved images with less noise in low-light situations. The larger sensor also exhibits a shallower depth of field at large apertures, providing greater depth of field control and creative options. The camcorder's new DIGIC DV 6 imaging engine further enhances the high sensitivity and low noise performance of the camcorder.
Wide DR Gamma (800%) Support
For natural and realistic-looking image capture that faithfully represents the scene at hand, Wide DR Gamma achieves a wide dynamic range of 800% to produce almost seamless tone gradations, resulting in smooth detail, accurate color and virtually no blown-out highlights.
15x Optical 4K UHD Zoom Lens with 5-Axis Optical Image Stabilization
The XF405 Professional Camcorder incorporates a Canon 4K video lens that leverages proprietary Canon optical technologies derived from years of experience in developing Cinema, Broadcast and EF series lenses. Inspired by the same high level of optical precision used in Canon broadcast and photographic lenses, the Canon XF405 camcorder incorporates a Genuine Canon 15x optical zoom lens that maintains 4K UHD quality throughout the entire zoom range and offers a focal length range of 25.5 to 382.5mm (35mm film equivalent). Users can get Up to 30x Advanced Zoom when shooting in Full HD, which utilizes the XF405 camcorder's full 4K UHD sensor to extend the zoom range while maintaining image quality.
