Questions & Answers

Horace F : I have one of your cotton carries and I`ve lost one of the camera attachments that screws to the bottom of the camera. How do I get another one?HAROLD A : I WOULD CALL COTTON CARRIER FOR REPLACEMENT IF ADORAMA DID NOT STOCK THIS ITEM HAROLDSTEPHEN G : google cotton carrier to get the link to their website. They should be able to supply the part you need.FRANK G : Hi,adorama the cotton carrier 122 cpf I am very very happy, not complain how to used. Thank for help meJOHN R A : go to the cottoncarrier website you can purchase replacement parts there.M KENNETH J : Replacement hubs are available from the manufacturer: I cannot add links in this reply. Search for "cotton carrier replacement regular camera hub". That will get you to the source where you will find options for various types of hubs.BRADLEY B : If I understand your question correctly I'd contact Cotton Carrier directly for replacement parts - otherwise a local camera store may be able to help if the attachment was originally part of the camera?
Shopper : How does the camera fit into the harness? How is it attached?RENEE S : Don't know how mechanical you are but will try to explain it for you There is a "button" that is attached to the bottom of the camerawith a screw it has a groove in it that contains a "double D" This fits into a socket on the harness by turning the camera 90deg and sliding it into the slot with a spring that holds the camera against the flange of the slot. When you rotat the camera back to a normal position the camera Cannot come out of the slot unless you reverse the procedure. Sounds complicated but is actually very easy and positive. I use mine extensively and now never leave home without it Note that adjusting the harness did take about 3 trips to get rough but once It was comfortable no nore adjustments have been necessary I hike and bicycle a great deal in my photo work and must say that the Cotton Carrier has made bot much more enjoyable Hope this helps and good shooting to youANDY K : You attach a sturdy "button" onto your Camera, then that fits into the receiver, to insert and remove the camera you hold it lens parallel with the ground, you cannot lift or, the camera cannot slip out unless held parallel to ground, the system works very well.HAROLD A : A STUD SCREWED TO BOTTOM OF YOUR CAMERA LOCKS INTO THE CARRIER HOPE THIS HELPS HAROLDMARK R : The kit comes with a disc which, on one side has a screw to attach to your camera's tripod mount. The other side has a slot which slides into the receiver on the harness. It is a quick, convenient, and reasonably secure system (assuming that you check the disc every once in a while to make sure that it is not unscrewing from your camera). The DISadvantage to this system comes if you use a tripod a lot -- especially if your tripod has a quick-connect plate.ERIC B : There is a metal piece that screws into the camera tripod thread. That piece enables the camera to slide int a place on the carrier where it is held.BRADLEY B : Simple. Attach/screw the hub into the bottom of your camera body and then slide the hub into the slot. Check out the videos at CottonCarrier as Andy - the owner- does a real good job of explaining the system. I absolutely love this set up as I can hike through the woods with my hands free. As you can imagine this is a very safe way of navigating through the forests/rivers...ADIA R : There a attachments you screw into the bottom of the camera and you simply slide that into the harness. The camera is held up by your body and held snug close by the straps.AIMEE C : There are discs that screw onto the canera tripod mount that slide into the cotton carrier and lock into place, to remove the camera you rotate the camera and it slides off the carrier. Very easy to use, worked great on some long mountain hikes where we took the camera on and off the carrier frequently.JOSE V : First, screw in an included plastic insert at the bottom of the camera following the instructions provided, then place the camera horizontally in the bracket and let go by its weight, after that just let the camera rest vertically.STEPHEN G : the camera is attached quite well with a hub that screws into the camera's female mount for a tripod. If you want to also use a tripod cotton carrier sells a tripod mount that affixes to the hub as well. You can also check out the Cotton Carrier website for a more detailed response.JENNIFER C : Check out youtube, search for cotton carrier. there are a dozen or so instructional videos! MY ONLY complaint is I use the heck out of my carrier and it wont break! :) The camera has a round specially designed mount for the bottom of your camera. In order to remove or insert the camera in the holder, simply rotate the camera to the right or left and pull up! Very simple. At first usage, it'll be stuff but the more you use, the more it'll loosen up and still be very secure. I have crashed my quad in the woods using BOTH chest and belt mounted carriers and BOTH held cameras firmly into place upon my tumble through the trees. I would 1005 recommend the carries. I shoot woods motorcycle racing and sometimes spend up to 10 hours carrying BOTH carriers into the field with neither carrier ever giving me issues. 10+ recommend to anyone.RANDI S : I think that it mounted with the tripod screw fitting and it was a problem for me. I had to remove my L-bracket to put the camera on the cotton carrier. I decided to return it. Hope this helps. THOMAS K : It has a metal piece with a rubber like washer that screws into the tripod mounting hole. After the piece is attached, to put camera in the slot, turn camera sideways slide in and turn camera lens down. It is a nice carrier and I use mine alot when out walking with my camera. Much better than around the neck. TomKIRTE K : The harness comes with two sets of "hubs" that attach to the tripod socket of your camera or lens. One set is for standard DSLRs; the second set is for ones with battery grips. The hubs have grooves that match up to the receptacles in the vest and holster. The grooves are matched such that you slide the camera in sideways, that is, lens is pointed to the side. Once seated, you twist the camera to point the lens down and it "locks" to help keep the camera from accidentally coming out of the receptacle.
Shopper : it is good for man also ?SALLY S : yes i think soJOHN R A : OH Yeah!! it is great. It is designed to be unisex and very comfortable. I really do recommend it for anyone that whats to have hands free while climbing, walking riding bike. Great for and active lifestyle.MICHAEL P : I use mine for event photography. If you have the camera around your neck for long periods of time, you must have one of these! No neck burn from the strap and it sits close to your body making it easier to navigate through crowds and tight spaces. I don't know why I waited as long as I did to buy one.JEFF O : The best thing I have ever bought for my camera, no heavy camera around your neck, If you do a lot of walking with your camera, this is what you need.ANDY K : I use mine with a 1d mk iv it is a large body camera, similar in size to a regular body with a battery grip. and it works very well, it comes with two different type attachments one angles the camera in more, than the other, but it is secure, sturdy and the only camera carrier I use now.JAMES W : YesBRADLEY B : Absolutely - I spent a week in Alaska - on/off a cruise ship, on/off canoes, on/off float planes - - having your hands free to guide yourself safely is a huge benefit.BERNIE B : I used this while hiking through Southern Utah last summer and it was the perfect solution for taking your camera with you on some long hikes. Definitely good for men!!RANDALL T : I say great for everyone, what I like best about it is that my bad back doesnt hurt as much. My neck feels a lot better also. It allows you to safely carry your camera with you hands free, and the safety leash is a great comfort that I know my camera cant come off and land on the ground and get damaged. I use it with confidence while riding my motorcycle and can stop use it and move on with out getting off my bike. No other camera device can do that for you. Love it!ERIC B : Definitely good for a man.KATHRYN F : My boss, who is a male, uses his carrier and loves it. (He had his before I ordered mine). I think it is, in fact, better designed for use by a man than a woman. It fits me comfortably, but seemed to adjust to his shoulders better than mine. I took the carrier on a trip to China and it was fantastic. It let me be totally hands-free, kept my camera from swinging around and getting damaged, and at the same time I was able to easily access my camera. One point to be aware of though - tighten the bolt that attaches to your camera often. If it is off center, the camera can at times be difficult to get out of the harness. If it is on correctly though, your camera can be easily removed and ready for shooting.

Documentation lacking

It is great for carrying heavy camera and lens. Difficult to set up. Needs better quick use guide including how to remove and put on again.

Cotton Carrier camera vest system review

I originally ordered the CC system that I had seen in the camera store here in Madison. Thinking I was ordering the same thing,I instead got the version that doesn't contain the hand straps and more importantly, the tripod adaptor plate. After conferring with Cotton Carrier about weather the C.C. adaptor plate would work with my Manfrotto tri & monopod RC2 rapid connect plate, they assured me it did, I then ordered the CC 124RTL-D. The camera vest system works very well as advertised but I am disappointed in one thing. That being the "universal tripod adaptor plate" With my particular tri/monopod the C.C. adaptor plate is extremely clumsy, and difficult to attatch. When you do have it attatched be sure to have your camera strap on (or the provided teathers) so you don't end up having a potentially expensive accident. My wish would be that I could get a custom machined tripod adaptor plate to fit my MF RC2 rapid connect plates. As for the carrier itself, it seems like an excellent product that I'm really looking forward to growing into. The lesson for me. Know exactlly what I need and want...and what I'm getting, before ordering.. For now I would give it 3 1/2 stars. With a better adaptor plate 5 stars.

Best thing since buttered bread

To give this a good test I did a half day hike while photographing dragonflies and damselflies, carrying a Canon 7D with Sigma 50-500 zoom lens (total 6 1/2 pounds)on the chest mount and a Canon xTi with Sigma 18-200 zoom on the side holster. I never felt tired, and was easily able to switch back and forth, when I needed the Macro capability of the 18-200. I did keep the neck strap in place with the 7D to give me peace of mind in case something did not hold. Everything held fine.

Wear two cameras and hike with confidenc

I shoot landscapes and nature, birds, macro, etc. In any field trip, my cameras will be on this vest when I can reach them immediately if needed and I know they are safely harnessed to me. You get some stares, but people just can't imagine how stable and comfortable this vest is.

Cotton carrier 122 my life Saver!

Shooting woods motorcycle racing, I use both the chest and side mounted units at the same time. The Chest carrier holds my Canon 7D with Battery Grip AND 70-200 2.8 lens very firmly. Might I add, I ride a (quad) through the woods sometimes at a very fast pace. The chest carrier holds the camera without a care from me and is as secure as any system I've used in the past. The belt carrier also holds my Canon 50D with battery grip and 17-70 wide angle WITH Canon 580 flash head firmly. I am not very easy on my equipment as I the environment is my main objection. I have used the 122 system almost every weekend I've owned them with ZERO issues except the following. 1. After a LONG day in the sun, the shoulder strap really rides up my shoulder s sleeves. The weight of my camera (not typical usage might I add) does have a tendency to really hurt my neckline where the strap creeps up above my t shirt. This isn't an issue when I wear my pit-crew shirt with a collar. I have zero issues with the cotton carrier other than my rugged usage sometimes out duels the system. The last most important thing is, with the chest strap on, the big rig I use after a long day of shooting, is sometimes mounted too high on to easily rotate and pull upwards. Not an issue but keep this in mind when you work in the field for 8 to 10 hours with a two camera setup! Overall 9.5

As promised

Works perfectly in holding two cameras at once and I love the hold down strap. Your camera is right there when you see a shot. Used it on my motorcycle and it holds the camera very well, it's just the dust issue that keeps me from doing it again. Very comfortable and easy to use. Doesn't make me hot even using it all day. I may add a strap to my belt to hold the harness down for those times you need a quick draw to catch an animal picture quickly. All in all yes I really do love it.

Good accessory

Hard to see/grasp the LEFT buckle/strap dangling from your back to secure it around your body. You can 'click' the buckle but sometimes with that silly twisted strap in your back.

Cotton Carrier a winner

Great when caring a heavy equipment, No more neck problems from having a start around your neck all day. One of the other things I really like is you don't have to keep swinging your camera out of the way when your in a busy area. Such as travel with site seeing.

Great Product

Used mine a couple of times shooting a high school graduation ceremony where I needed multiple cameras. It was great. I recently used it while mountain hiking to waterfalls. It was great. The hike was a 2 mile round trip. Normally trying to keep a camera on the shoulder or around the neck is a pain. With this, there was no pain, no problems. I also had admiring looks from others and recommended it.

Dorky, but worth it!

My style of photography leads me to lay on the ground and crawl on floors to get the shots I want AND keep as low profile as possible. Before I was constantly worrying about my camera swaying when I moved, not to mention the two bodies banging together. I call my Cotton Carrier "The Ultimate Dork Strap," but it saves my cameras and shoulders so I'm not complaining! Definitely a two-thumbs-up!

Go Ahead and Buy It

It takes a while to get the adjustments right but once setup, the Cotton Carrier is a dream. I have used it on two outings and never felt my equipment was dragging me down, cutting into my shoulders, or wishing I had not chosen to vary so much gear. Both times I used it with a 70-200 f2.8 zoom, one time with a second body and kens and the other with a camcorder on the side holster. Not having my camera strap around my neck or on my shoulder sure made the whole experience better. If your are considering the Cotton Carrier, stop considering and buy it. You'll be glad you did.
