Questions & Answers

KERI H : Is this the newest updated version that includes the umbrella holder?LETIA G : I don't believe so. I have not heard of an umbrella holder so I would say no it does not include that.RICHARD G : My cotton carrier do not have the umbrella holder, but has w2orked extremely well on hiking trips in Alaska and the Texas Big Bend area. It also works well carrying your camera on the airliners as well. I love to take pictures out of the planes windows. thanks Richard GirardFRANK S : Sorru but I don't know the answer to your question. I ordered the vest to have something more convenient to carry my Nikon D750 when hiking. I did not use it. I settled on a Peak Design strap that meets my needs more than the vest. It may be great for other folks' needs, but I found the new strap designs more useful and less cumbersome.
THOMAS J. M : Can You adapt a Manfrontte Quick Release plate and Adapter to this vest.My Tripod and Monopole use Manfrotte plates???MARVIN S : I am not sure. The vest (which is great) comes with a plate to put under the attachment disk that has a tripod mount on it. In theory you could attach your quick release plate to that. I think there is enough clearance both vertical and horizontal. To be sure, you might want to contact the Cotton Carrier manufacturer directly.MICHAEL C : Yes. I also have a monopole. If you have purchased the cotton carrier UNIVERSAL ADAPTER PLATE , then the Quick Release plate will bolt onto the extra screw holes on the plate. I tested the system by attaching the quick release plate to the cotton adapter plate, put my camera on the cotton carrier and then onto the monpole - both fit fine.ROBERT R : I'm a slim man and the Cotton Carrier did not work for me. I couldn't get the camera out of the carrier fast enough. The whole carrier would slid up. It was a complete waste of money for me. That's not to say it wouldn't work for you.PAULA P : According to the Cotton Carrier website: "The CC Tripod Adapter Plate is the simple solution to using your Cotton Carrier camera system with your favorite tripod. Even if you use an L-Bracket on your camera, with our Universal Adapter Plate you can quickly move your camera from your Cotton Carrier to tripod in a flash. Compatible with the majority of tripod systems, the Tripod Adapter Plate is included in your purchase of many of our systems.... If you are using a Manfrotto, Gitzo, Vanguard, Giottos, Benro, etc. tripod, you will need to attach their quick release plate to ourplate and then you’re ready for use!"Rodolphe A : Yes. The Cotton Carrier Vest comes with a universal tripod adapter plate that you mount in the tripod threads of your camera and the vest hub screws into that plate as well as your Manfrotto plate. Just make sure that the vest you order has that adapter plate included (it is made of extruded aluminum). I too work with Manfrotto tripods and their plates. RodDULCEY L : I regret that I can not answer your question as I have never combined the vest with a tripod. I recommend that you contact Cotton Carrier directly with your question.JACK B : My solution was to buy Wimberley tripod plates to replace the Manfrotto ones. This makes your tripod, monopod Arca Swiss compatible.DAN H : Yes, you need to get the Cotton Carrier UNIVERSAL ADAPTER PLATE then attach your tripod plate to it.FRANK S : Sorry but I cannot answer your question. I switched to a Joby sling strap an have not used the Camera vest. I found the Joby strap much more convenient and less bulky than the vest.. I assume the Vest producer can answer your question thru a "contact us" link on its website. Frank
PATRICIA K : I'd be using a Canon 7D and Tamron 150-600mm lens with the tripod mount attached to the lens. Would it fit the vest that way and not push into me?RICHARD G : Patricia K; The Lens would not push into you as the lens hangs downward. I don't think that it will work with the tripod mount on the camera, as there is a special mount that mounts on the camera that attaches the camera to the vest as you carry the camera. I used my vest for 16 days straight in Alaska while hiking. You can also ware the vest on the plane and thru customs with no trouble and is not uncomfortable. I found a small water proof bag to clip on the side to carry more batteries and memory chips.I took over 6000 pictures on the trip and could not have done it as smoothly with out the vest.MIGUEL N : I use mine with a Nikon D800 with battery pack and a Sigma 120-300mm. The lens alone weighs over 7 lbs and the camera with battery pack over 4 lbs. I doubt that your setup weighs more than that. I use a Vanguard Quovio backpack to carry camera and lens until at location, then I transfer to the cotton carrier - I wouldn't want to walk around all day with the camera mounted to vest.GEORGE K : Probably need to spin lens ring 90 degrees.RON W : Patricia, I use a 7D with the 70-200 2.8 lens and either the 1.4 or 2.0 teleconverter. That lens has the tripod mount, I've had no problems with it. The only issue I've had is I live in California and it gets pretty warm under the vest in the summer.EUGENE F : I use the Canon 7d but I have not used the tripod attachment. Over all great product but I can not answer your question sorryWILLIAM V : I have only used it for I a. Nikon 7100 and nikon 18-200 it was great but your setup might weigh 3+ lbs moreSCOT F : I shoot a nikon D300 with battery grip and sigma 50-500 with tripod mount and it works fine.LETIA G : I personally would not attach such a large lens on this carrier. I have a 500 and would not think about carrying it. If your only question is would it push in to you, yes, probably, not from the tripod attachment, but just the weight hanging. I wouldn't want that much weight hanging from my camera. I have hiked for long distances with my 24-70. It's a great carrier but I think it has it's limits. Hope this helps.STEVEN H : If u mean the lense collar mount then perhaps, but then again just rotate the collar. Trust me walking yellowstone with my canon 300mm and the cotton carrier was nice and easy on my neck ,shoulder and back.GEORGE H : I bought the Cotton Carrier as a way to carry the camera in the cockpit of my sport aircraft where there is nowhere to set it down. I've only used a Sigma 35 F/1.4 or Sigma 17-70 on it. Nothing as large as the zoom you are using. However right away I found that the angled camera hub was needed to keep the lens from being pushed up against me when sitting. I use it reversed so that it angles the lens away from me. When I bought it Adorama listed this angled hub as included, but it wasn't. A call to Adorama and then Cotton Carrier and one was sent to me for no charge.ANTHONY C : Couldn't be for sure. But I do love my vest. When I'm doing photo. I do a lot of video and sometimes it just in the way. But I keep it with me just incase. I use a 7D and mostly my 24-105 L series lensJACK B : Hi Patricia, I have a Nikon d7000 with Nikon 70-200 f4 and tripod attachment that works really well with the Cotton carrier. I would never go back to a sling type again. You would need to specify that you want the 10 degree hub for your rig as that hub will keep the camera and lens from pushing into you. The 10 degree hub is for setups like yours. I hope this helps.JOAN S : Love the carrier. I have a Canon 5D Mark II and use the 70-200 2.8 lens. quite heavy. Problem I had to take my tripod mount off to use the carrier.WENDELL S : Yes, it should be OK. I've found that this harness is a great solution. I use a Canon 60D with various lenses and have found it to be very comfortable. Think about the side holster option also. I didn't and am regretting it. There are times when I would like to be a little less conspicuous.FRANK S : Hello...I am not familiar with your Canon setup. But the model picture shows a woman with a Canon and a long lens that seems consistent with my experience with the Vest. The front part of the Vest has the bracket to which the camera is attached; that whole front part is very stiff/rigid so it holds the camera almost perpendicular to the ground (with my Nikon D600 and Sigma 24-70 lens). The shoulder and waste straps add to the rigidity of the front bracket piece. But the Tamron lens you plan to use is quite long and weighs around 4 pounds so I wouldn't be surprised if the lens didn't tilt in to you a bit at the waste. Then there is the tripod bracket on it, I assume it can be moved to the side but I have the feeling it would be awkward to use with the vest. If I were considering this set up, I'd want to try it out before purchase or buy from a company that allows returns. Hope this helps...Frank in Eugene, OR

Looks good, heavy duty

I haven't had a chance to actually use it yet. Looks sturdy and holds my camera securely. Will update this when I have it out and about.

Excellent way to carry camera in field

Really like this vest for carrying my camera when out in the field taking shots. Very comfortable and fully adjustable. The best and unforgotten feature is the universal adapter that incorporates an arca swiss plate for mounting to my tripod. Absolutely no other strap/carry rig provides such an adapter. I don't know how other strap makers could have missed this one!
