No 17-bullet dissertation or a "what I wish this light had" review. There are other lights with different features, sizes and lumens. If you had expectations that this light will burn out the retinas of local wildlife at 100 yards you bought the wrong light. This is not what it was designed for. This is a solid, general-purpose light to toss in your center console, glove box, purse or backpack for any time you need light. This flashlight is well-crafted using quality components, and at an awesome price point. The 180+ lumens (battery dependent) provide good lighting in the immediate area and the smooth focus function performs as designed to evenly distribute the light from a spot to a soft flood. The multipurpose pocket clip allows clipping to the bill of a hat for hands-free illumination. Decently sized to use with gloves but small enough to EDC in a pocket, easy to operate with the simple tail switch and the smooth focus function.

I had an HX5 for over 10 years of daily hard use. I always had it in my pocket and don't know how anyone could manage without one in their pocket. Lots of light, reliable and durable. I had worn the paint thin on it from use. It finally stopped working after all those years and Coast honored their warranty and replaced it. I can certainly say that I am satisfied with the product and the company. I recommend both to everyone.

I purchased the HX5 around 20 years ago and Purchased another around a year ago and I noticed the difference between the Two , the Light element was Larger on the newer one

I use this light every day as a building inspector, in most cases the flashlight provides ample light needed for most inspections and conveniently clips on to my hat and securely in my pocket for safe keeping. This one was purchased a few years ago. As you can see, it is used daily in a shop and not especially cared for. It ends up in the tool tray and gets shuffled amidst heavy wrenches and sockets. Even with all this abuse, it continues to perform flawlessly!

This is a great little Flashlight. There is just one major downside i would love to see addressed and that is the single brightness mode. I actually bought a rechargeable 3.6v 14500 size lithium ion battery with a built-in micro USB port at the same time from the same hardware store i purchased this flashlight from because i knew it was compatible. It is significantly brighter with the 14500 lithium cell and that's what i like about this light is it's so small and light yet extremely bright if you do decide to run it on a 14500 battery cell. Unfortunately the same reason why it's so good is also the downside as when you are using a 14500 cell there is no option for a lower lumen mode but only the single mode which is an impressive 410 lumens with the 14500 battery. It would've been really nice to see a lower 100 lumen mode too. This is the biggest downside for me about this flashlight. If you really do want to have a lower output from it you xan always use a normal alkaline battery or 1.2v NiMH cell as this Flashlight is dual power and more or less compatible with any AA sized battery with a voltage range of 1.2-3.7v which i find really useful. The zoom mechanism is also super smooth. I was quite surprised by how good it feels. I have the HX6R and XP6R both of which are very similar in size and brightness to this HX5 and also have the adjustable focus feature but this HX5 definitely has the smoothest and best feeling zoom/focusing mechanism out of the 3. Overall it's a great little light and unlike the HX6R and XP6R (HX5R and HX6R are the same exact light by the way so if i reference either of the 2 just know that they are exactly the same) the HX5 does have more widely available battery options to choose from as opposed to the property Zithion Z555 16500 cell on the HX6R/HX5R and less standard 16340 or CT123 size battery on the XP6R. Although those are slightly brighter overall in terms of maximum lumen output and have more modes this one is by far the most flexible when it comes to your power options. The HX6R can also run on a standard AA battery but i noticed that the light output is rather weak on it and nowhere near the 180 lumens you get out of this HX5 with the same AA battery so the HX5 is definitely a lot more efficient when it comes to running it on a standard AA or NiMH battery whereas the HX6R only performs it's best when it's used with it's property Zithion Z555 16500 battery which isn't the case with the HX5 as you can just swap in any commonly available 14500 lithium ion cell and have a significantly brighter flashlight without the worry of a property battery.

Original flashlight lasted 2 months till the switch failed. Received a warranty replacement light. The replacement light failed after after 1 month of use. Once again, crappy switch failed. Here is a fix. How about a screw in end cap to turn on/off the beam? 1 moving part. No more crappy switch.

I bought this flashlight because of the optional "built in" USB port for optional rechargeability. After I finally got it out of the package, I realized that the built-in USB port was inside the "optional" rechargeable battery, which was NOT included. Big difference, big disappointment, very misleading and conveniently vague on the packaging. To top it off I find the zoom option very limited (which you cannot test while in the packaging) plus it doesn't zoom to a clean circle, it just blurs the outer circle. Not at all what I expected of this otherwise sturdy looking and feeling flashlight. So now I am expected to buy a separate rechargeable battery plus God knows how much shipping, all this in US dollars? (Canadian here). It'll cost as much as the flashlight cost if not more! This is false advertising or misleading packaging, take your pick but most of all take this flashlight back. Should I get my refund from the retailer or do you handle it directly?
