I bought this item so long ago, I forgot when and where I got it. After a while, it just didn't work. I stored it in my closet for years and was about to throw it away, but I looked online and saw it had a lifetime warranty. They replaced the product for a modest shipping fee with no hassle, no strings, no excuses. I'm a loyal customer when I find high quality and high character, and it looks like I found such a company.

I love using headlamps at my home. The HL 5 is bright and fits around my ball cap and is very comfortable to wear. The new headlamp model has several improvements that I believe will increase its longevity. I prefer a headlamp over a flashlight allowing free hands for tasks.

I had purchased a flashlight and head band light at the same time and over time the led lights on the headband started going out. The flashlight quit working completely after a couple years. I contacted Coast about my issues and they sent me an updated flashlight and head band light for just the cost of postage. That is excellent customer service. Thank you.

I just bought this week. Put it on, and with the straps extended as far as possible. Barely fits my head. I don't have a huge head, so I was very dissatisfied.

I'm a 74-year-old disabled veteran with hearing, mobility, and vision impairments. Speaking to my vision issues - I suffer from inoperable cataracts. My eyes can still resolve shapes pretty well, but, as the lenses of my eyes become more opaque, I need much brighter lighting in order to see. My Coast HL-45 Headlamp has a lot going for it: (a) its quality built and can withstand being turned off and on many times, all day, every day; (b) it's comfortable, and I can wear it all day long: most of the time, I don't even notice it's there; (c) the light it produces is the correct colour temperature for my vision requirements, and there are 2 intensity levels to choose from; (d) the headlamp has a red beam option, which I use when I have to get up during the night without disturbing my sleeping wife; (e) battery life of the HL-45 is good with my rechargeable AA batteries; (f) I have been using my HL- for 8->10 hours a day, 365 days a year, but the switches still work like new. Coast has replaced my headlamp twice, under warranty, and their customer service has been fantastic. They are courteous, patient, and friendly - they sound like they genuinely do care for my safety and satisfaction. I became acquainted with Coast products many years ago, as a young man who worked on the farm and also went fishing after dark. I recognized Coast build quality from the first time I picked up one of their products and held them in my hands you can feel the quality. Coast's service, reliability, and courtesy are just as good as their build quality, so I'm happy to write this glowing review of my HL-45. I highly recommend Coast products, and the company, itself.

Pro: The light is nice and bright and the red beam is an eye saver, whether it is used alone, or in tandum with the white light. Comfortable to wear and easy to change batteries. Con: It doesn't last as long as it should.

I bought it a few months ago it works good but battery cover seams to not be to stay on that well you might want to secure it with something also the switch turns its self on if you store it in a back pack. I have a cuple of them other than the little issues they work great for a good price

I love this hands free light. It has two light levels, and a separate red light with it's own switch, so you don't have to toggle through the white lights to get to the red light. Having the battery pack in the back keeps the weight distributed. The only issue for me is that the headband is a little tight when fully extended. I wear it over my cap, and it probably wouldn't be an issue for someone with a smaller head, or if used with a hard hat, which it can be secured to with 4 clips that come with the light. It uses 3 AAA batteries. To my knowledge, there is not a rechargeable battery pack for this light. That would be a great improvement as I use mine daily.

Another solid light by Coast. I wish it had an adjustment from flood to spot, or if it had to be one or the other, spotlight as that is just as useful for work and more useful on the trail.

Indispensable! We have a disabled child who requires treatments, medications, and equipment checks overnight every night. For years, we fumbled with small flashlights which were less than ideal. Although it seemed like a goofy thought at first, our transition to using a Coast headlamp has been an absolute game changer. With this model, the red light doesn't bother our child nearly as much and I can't tell you all how critical it is that our second hand is freed up from holding a light source. Ever try to string and start an IV with one hand? Just sayin'. So thankful we made the transition to a headlamp. And Coast makes really good ones. I rate this particular model with four stars only because the design is an issue. Where the wire enters the battery pack is a failure point. We have had two replaced now due to that same failure. I believe having the battery pack integrated with the light with no exposed wire would be more reliable and will be the next design type we will consider. Now, with that said, Coast is very, very good about standing behind their product. I contacted them both times about these failures and they sent replacements. One time I had to pay for shipping but one time did not.
