I do close work with my hands and often had to hold the flashlight in my mouth to illuminate places where there was insufficient light. This is the first headlamp I've found (as a runner, my wife has several) that is bright enough and that I can focus directly where I need it. Superior product.

I use this light to read at night. I like the fact that I can mix the red and low level white light. The point is the white light is not a focus light beam but a more dispersed light beam.

I use this headlamp for trail running at night. The trails I run along are very rough and this light's dimmest setting usually provides me with adequate illumination. On its brightest setting, the headlamp puts out so much light that I rarely feel the need to use it even if I'm running at a quick pace, but it's nice to know it's there if I need it. I really like the red light LED. It's also quite bright, almost bright enough for me to use while running all on its own, and using it definitely will preserve your night vision. I use this lamp with my Duracell 750-850 mAh rechargeable batteries and I've never come close to draining them or encountering any dimming issues even after tens of hours of cumulative use between chargings. I rarely use this light on its brightest setting, so I can't comment on battery life when the light is used on this setting continuously. I can say however that my Duracells have easily provided enough power to keep this light shining steadily on its brightest setting for two hours straight without any indication they couldn't have lasted far longer. One minor complaint I have about this light, which seems to be common for lights of this general design, is that when I angle it towards the ground 5 to 10 yards in front of me so the center of the beam is where I need the bulk of the illumination to be when I'm running, the end of my nose gets illuminated too which creates unhelpful glare. To prevent this from happening, I have to wear baseball cap, although this isn't an ideal solution because the brim casts a shadow that extends further in front of me than I'd like. The light is comfortable to wear and while it's not the lightest one on the market, I don't find it to be heavy either. It generally stays in place while running, but it does have a tendency to ride up the front of my hat over my forehead sometimes while I'm running. It's not a huge deal but it is a minor annoyance, and it, together with the nose-illuminating characteristic, is the reason I give this lamp 4 stars instead of the full 5. On the odd chance Coast read this review, I'd like to add that if I had a wishlist, it would be for a light like this (minus the minor issues I mentioned with a far brighter red light, maybe in the ~100-150 lumens range, so that I could run using it alone and wouldn't have to trade off my night vision. I want to know if there is a replacement bulb, in case the one in the light dies. Cant find any info on your site or Amazon regarding replacement LED bulbs.
