Linda B : Will the 4 oz bottle of Film cleaner be enough to clean thirty 50 foot rolls of old 8 MM and 16 MM film?WILLIAM W : It should be - a little goes a long long wayBILL S : No clue. Bought but never used.ANA A : Yes I would say it would be enough, depending how dirty the negatives are. Even still, This is a strong solvent, a little goes a long way.RICHARD T : yes it should, clean with a cheesecloth, dust free /lint free cloth. Have fiml between rewinds ot held on projector in rewind mode. Place a small amount on cloth and hold wet cloth area lightly between fingers as tilm goes through. not too fast as it will dry well before on reel.. Change to clean spot on cloth and wet again, used cloth will be dirty , will not remove emulsion unless you have vinegar syndrome.

And do you need a lot of it?William E : I use 100% cotton cloth (to save money) and then go over it again with pec pads (lint free and fairly cheap). If you don't want to clean it twice, just use the pec pads. A piece of lint can look pretty big on a 8mm frame.Glen H : Edwal Anti-Stat Film Cleaner should be used with a clean, soft (preferably lint free) cloth or cotton swab. Cotton pads may also be used, but it is important that the material be completely non-abrasive. The amount used will vary.

Works Well for Negative Cleaning

Scanning a large numbers of old color and B&W negatives, many with decades of dirt, finger smudges, and plain old crud. This solution works well at softening and removing most dirt but may require some very gentle Q-Tip work. Dries clean.

less air polluting than the alternative

I used to use Edwal film cleaner 40 years ago when I was working in my darkroom. It came in a spray can then. Now that i no longer have a darkroom I am still working on B&W negatives from that era before scanning into a Hassleblad X5. Many negatives, thank god, only require blowing off (I prefer the cute rocket ship shaped hand squeeze blower to the cans of compressed air that too easily cause more problems than they solve) but other negs need more and when they do I much prefer the Edal to the PEC12 cleaner whose fumes are quite noxious. It might be the case that the Pec product is even more effective but I doubt it. The edwal, applied with PEC pads works just fine and doesn't drive me out of the room with its fumes. I only wish it came in a dispenser with a push spray valve. Pouring it directly onto a cleaning cloth is tricky.
