Willis T : How many tubes and colors are in the box? What other supplies come with it? It'd nice to have a photo of what we're actually buying.ANNE N : I’m sorry that I cannot be more help to you and describing what was in the box of Marshall oil paints. I gave it to a friend who had wanted to try them. I have use Marshall oriole us in the past This is a basic bucks which would be good for somebody who is starting out. I will not be able to give you the exact contents of the box though. All the best.Enter an answer to this question.REBECCA SEXTON L : Hello. I use Marshall's in my artwork pretty regularly. The hobby set has 15 tubes of different colors. The tubes are ½" × 2" tubes. The kit will also contain a 1 oz bottle of Marlene Medium (for removing undesired color- similar to turp), cotton balls, toothpicks, a wooden application tool, and a metal application tool. Hope this helps. Many handcolorists will also use what is called PM solution my Marshalls. It is generally included in the larger kits. - Rebecca Sexton Larson
Shopper : What exactly is this...looking for a hobby but do you need to be an artist to use this? I have no artistic skill whatsoever.JEFF L : This is fun and doesn't take much skill. I got a 144 p. book called "The art of hand painting photographs" by Cheryl Machat Dorskind (only $5.97 at Amazon), which explains everything and gives dozens of nice examples of coloring family black and white photos. All you need is the Marshall's set and some black and white prints to work on. Begin with prints that are expendable; there is a learning curve to getting nice results. I have a darkroom and can make plenty of prints cheaply. It's fun to see them come alive with color. Definitely a great hobby, in a retro-20th Century sort of way.MARY H : I did purchase this but have not used it yet. You must use it on photos printed on fine art papers, not regular photo paper which is resin coated. It is a form of painting so I would assume that you might want some skill but that does not mean that you should not give it a try. Think of it as coloring within the lines of a photo - you don't need to do any drawing. Hope that helps.RAINA R : These hobby oils are for adding color to black and white photo prints. Preferably on RC matte paper or any fiber paper other than glossy. They do take some skill to use. But that is also dependent on what you are trying to accomplish by adding this colors to a photo.RAMONA B. A : These are transparent oil paints which are used for hand coloring black and white photographs. The photos may be old ones or you can print modern photos in black and white and color them. Usually, you only tint parts of the picture to bring out highlights, etc. Like any art or craft, you would get better with practice. There are many articles online which talk about hand-tinting photos. Do a search for more complete instructions.

Buy elsewhere. Got my first order in worse condition. They attempted to make it good and I received this. Also photo on website is very misleading. You don?t get what you think you ordered. I?m sure the product itself is of good quality, but?..
